The water in FarCry Instincts impressed me after seeing screenshots in an Xbox magazine.
May the NFOrce be with you always.

Everyone saying source or Hl2, try glimpsing just under the surface. I don't know if It's only my copy that acts weird but It' kind of a hack to check the bottom fast.

well you mentionned every games I could have though of,.. farcry, source and morrowind. Wave Race 64??? aahahhaha ok it looked the best 7-8year ago but come one now it look like crap just replay it you'll see.
Personnaly I think the best water effect is not in a game but in some tech demo. Unfortunatly I don't have exemple right now, might search later when I have time

Just under the surface? What are you talking about... the water in HL2 looks excellent TO ME, I don't really care what problems other people have with it.

while back mchart posted a custom BIG ASS map that had everything big buildings/ water/ lighting/ everything people loved in hl2 but the map was shoddy but it did prove that d3 is capable of those things hl2 is capable of...
water was crystal clear n shit
wasn't that bad
but the custom map was badly made.... not that i can do better ... but if some more time were put into it i'm sure it would look A LOT better than anymap in hl2

We've allready seen this many times, and if you actually still think the source engine is better graphically then the doom3 engine, you are out of your mind. Not to mention your trying to start a flame war, again. The case is closed. If you want the best of Last-Gen technology, use the source engine, if you want next gen technology, use the doom3 engine. The fact still remains, if you take the nicely crafted textures out of HL2, and replace them with them the doom3 textures, it will look like shit. Where as if you take the textures of HL2 and put them into doom3, it looks damn good. Why? Because the doom3 engine is capable of more graphically.
Injur-
http://www.pcgamemods.com/10560/ There's the new test build as well, its getting pretty cool. The in-game GUI in doom3 engine is really great. You can see this with the in-game winamp player, and the arcade games in the arcade. Its really fun scripting for it.

ruffle my o!
no one gives a fuck which engine is better. A person who does is an asshole source has its ups n downs and so does d3.
d3 has the atmosphere
hl2 has the pace
both games are basically tech demos so fuck it
TALK ABOUT THE WATER
i remember goin fishin under the 400... and i remember staring at the muddy running water man it looked like hl2 water in those screenies ( the official valve hl2 screenies). But then the water calmed down and it looked nothing like hl2
I like water that matches the game. Sources water matches hl2. but not css dods an not hldm... d3 water will match d3 in any form d3 expansion/mod/another game/ everything
Water in urban chaos was cool back in its day ripple effects n shit reflections it was cool…. Heck Zelda had good water…

Jesus christ do you have some sort of spidey sense for when anyone criticises the Doom engine?
Anyway, I was trying to stop a flamewar before it started. I'm going away to Milan for 4 days so I wasn't trying to start one because I won't be here! I believe you are the one who started this hypothetical "Doom 3 could potentially have the best water and also make love to me while making my breakfast" shit.
I prefer the Source graphics. They are more realistic IMO. Ok?
Im a cockfag

Yes, thats fine, but when you make a statement like this (and I quote) -
"SOURCE > DOOM. CASE CLOSED."
Well, you see my point. And technically, yes, the doom3 engine would have better looking water effects, just because of the fact that it is more capable. If you wanted to make a game, and not have to do much working with the engine to make the game, then yes, the source engine would be a better choice. But if you need better graphics, or just about anything, you would most likely choose the doom3 engine, if you could put the work in to have it to work with your game. Its a trade off with both.
