Hi, I have just borrowed AC2 from my friend. I havent encountered any problems with DRM yet, but when I was going through the posts here, there were talks about drm collecting data for ubisoft (what a total violation of privacy, fuck you, you Ubisoft facists).. And I was just thinking, that I have a few pirated Ubisoft games on my PC such as Anno 1404. Do you think that drm can spy on me and tell people at ubi, that I have their games ??
Btw, the game is sooo sweet, and if I didnt have this friend, I would have totally waited for the crack...

If it does spy on you then you shouldnt worry about it. What are they going to do? go after the milions of people who have pirated their games?
What the spying probably does, is check to see what gaming sites you visit, what computer you have, what internet connection etc.
After that they make statistics wich they can sell to interested parties, thus making even more monney from their games.
So basicly 50+ euros for the game + whatever extra they make from selling those statistics

Meh, I don't think this DRM collects any significant data. Just what games you play through their service, how often you play them, what features you use, may be your hardware too...strictly what's connected to their Uplay service and all that. This thing has been blown out of proportion.

The problem with this thread is it's impossible to say anything serious. The only thing that flies is comments in black or white (either your with me or against me).
This shit is getting boring...

actually defending or rambling against Ubisoft falls into the same category. the need to state your precious opinion over and over and over about the apocalyptic decision ubisoft made instead of maybe.. talk about the gameplay? the character? what you liked WITHIN the game? what you didnt like ? I GOT IT, DRM IS DRACONIAN, WILL WE EVER BE ABLE TO MOVE ON ?

If you want to talk about the gameplay, I would strongly sugest you go to a gaming forum like gamespot or ubisofts site. Why would you choose a forum dedicated to cracks and mostly copy protection where people talk about scene releases to do this?

I can't really say much about this game other than it's effing great. Saying that it's much better than the original is a huge understatement.

To whoever said that you can't prevent DDoS. You're wrong, don't post if you don't know what you're talking about, which you clearly don't. Put down the computer and read a book, thank you.

Want me to send UDP Packets of data at you full throttle, no matter your server, firewall, PC it will hit it hard and cause it to either..
1. Slow down like a snail on speed
2. Cause your firewall to go nuts and block everything coming at it, unsuccessfully.
3. Cause any routers,NAT's etc to just block the net full stop.
Maybe read a book is a good idea to follow yes?
@ at everyone else who moans.
I love the fact your blaming UBI, who is raping the legit customers, but is in fact the ruskies who are doing most of the DoS'ing, ergo its the ruskies mostly who is raping the customers since UBI wont change the servers they will just ride it out. And nothing will be accomplished.

I mean, if I was a customer, here's how I'd see it:
Ubisoft and I sign an agreement. I get to play the game, although I need an internet connection. Fine by me. Yippe, I have a new game.
Then it all ends, as some hacker wannabe vigilantes think they have a right to come between me and Ubisoft. Which is basically what they are doing. They gain to win nothing, they just can't deal with NOT having something, that I have.
Back to being me then. What the hell do they think they're achieving? What is the sound logic behind it? The DRM won't be changed. If they're doing this for the PC platform, as they say (read: lie), then they are simply turning more legit customers away, yes, they are, not UBI!
So, since there's no logic in the attacks, it leaves one thing: teenage frustration. Spoiled interweb kiddies. Great! Either that or general anti-americanism and anti-corporatism. Which is funny, because Ubi isn't a US company, yet on other sites I read pseudo-philosophies of how this whole attack is what 21st century communism is about.
To all you faggot wannabe hackers: fuck you, you're not helping, morons! get a damned job and buy games. Oh, that would require moving your fat ass off the chair. Yeah, I feel your pain!

That's irrelevant. Ubi is the one responsible for forcing the DRM and putting legit customers at risk. Exact same situation, when there is an Exploit in Windows, Microsoft is to blame and expected to fix, and not the ones that discovered it and/or the ones that are using the exploit to compromise Windows users' computers (case in point the infamous Blaster invulnerability in Windows 2000 and XP).

Guy goes out to bar, gets drunk, drives home, knocks down 10 children and kills em.
Who is at fault?
The car manufacturer for making him able to drive the car even drunk?
The manufacturer of the booze he drunk?
The children because they should have been in a house instead of outside?
Or the guy himself?

Uhm, not quite. Technically, it's Ubi's job to keep the customers safe. Failing has consequences.
However, DDoS-ing is illegal. Aside from being illegal, it has no moral background, as the attackers are not legit customers.
iNatan, what you are saying equates to: it's the door company's fault, that they broke in to your house, the criminals themselves, are in fact not to blame.
That's bullshit and you know it! The ones in the wrong are the ones on the attack here, and there is no other way around it. Fkin pricks.

Your analogy is stupid and has nothing to do with this. A better one: Guy buys a car from a dealership, and is told it will arrive from abroad on a freighter at this date and he will have his car. The date passes and suddenly he is told the freighter got stolen by Russian pirates in mid-sea and the dealership can do nothing about it. Who does guy blame? I'd blame the dealership.

If the door company had the only key to my door, and someone broke into their offices and stole that key, it is their fault, yes. In case you haven't noticed, you don't own the game.

Or even better: guy buys car, dealership promises to let him have the keys anytime he asks for them, but he is not allowed to keep them himself. He has to phone in for them every time he starts his car.
So the guy phones in and OH GOD IT'S BUSY -- can't drive his car now. Calls back in ten minutes ... still busy! That's Ubisoft DRM failing in a nutshell. And yeah, I'd blame Ubisoft for it, not the phone company.

Yeah, I read the analogy already. Fails. Car company is insured. End of story, you get new car, Russian pirates end up in jail and drop the soap.
Ubisoft can't really do much right now. Now, I'm a software designer. You can't simply change the game plan in a few days.
Based on causality however, the fault lies with the pirates. Solely with them. They have no reason, no logic. Only frustration and kiddie porn.

Ahhh what you mean is this...
"Wahhh wahhh wahhh, your analogy has just blown my point out the water, I support the DoS'ers cause I hope that will force UBI to remove the DRM so I can then hopefully get my AC2 for free sooner than later. *insert dummy tit and Maggie Simpson sounds*"
My analogy was correct in this situation.
Just like this..
Guy buys AC2, Installs it, Connects to net, plays game, Ruskies DoS servers, game goes kaput, UBI tries to get servers back up.
Everything is peachy until the ruskies invaded. Ergo the Russians are the cause of the customers woes.

The only fault Ubi has here, is not expecting to be attacked by savage, russian, communist barbarians. Sure, that's bad enough, but all they did was ASSUME legions of kids wouldn't do something completely and utterly immoral and illegal against them.
