How to fix x3daudio1_7.dll not found error
This is most probably a DirectX issue. A fresh installation of DirectX (included in game’s installation dir) should solve this issue for good.

I'm running a gtx 260m with a 2.1ghz core 2 duo and am fluctuating wildly on FPS. Getting unplayable when a lot is going on. Anyone with a similar getting higher? What driver versions are you using?
Running on Low by the way, tried on medium but couldn't keep it playable.

Ok, for everyone with x3d audio 1_7.dll problems, install DirectX that came with the game. That means that you install DIRECTX from the DIRECTX folder, not Direct3d 11.
Also, for those that want to alter game settings through user.cfg, press (windows logo key) + "R" and type %localappdata%, there you will se a 4A Games folder.
About the game? Well I can't really say that the game is bad since it isn't. But it isn't excellent either. The thing that I find to be a bit of a let down is the fact that the game takes you by the hand and leads you forth. It may look like there is something to explore, but there isn't; it's just straight to the end of the level. That and the fact that spoken English is terrible and the subtitles aren't better either. I somehow find it better to play it with english subtitles over russian spoken word. I also feel that Artyom knows far more about everything that the gamer leading him, which is a bit stupid since everyone is telling you how important you are and Artyom says nothing to that.
On the other side, the story seems interesting, the atmosphere is perfect. I wonder if many people noticed that there is nearly no ingame music. The game looks and runs nice on max settings for directx 10 here (E8500, 4870, 4GB RAM), runs far better than any stalker game, to be honest.

Razor release works perfectly fine.
Graphics are ok nothing special, atmosphere and effects are ok and the premise for the game was ok, unfortunately i gave the game 4 hours of my life which ill never get back , the weapons are pretty pathetic to the point of being annoying eg 3 clips into one monster and 4 clips into another , that wouldnt be too bad IF it didnt take half a bloody hour to reload or you werent getting attacked by 5 or 6 of them.
Good idea just too many flaws , my annoyance of the reloading speed being a major one as it is a shooter and being able to reload quickly or realistically ( ive used a double barrel and it didnt take me that long to reload the damn thing ) is one of the things that should be pretty smooth.
Today it is my turn to be AN knobhead

If you'll read my post again, you'll understand that the comparison I made was purely from a gameplay point of view.
And I prefer Stalker in a subjective way. It's due to it's communist "flavor" of the environment. It's a "tune" that only eastern European people can understand. All the industrial halls, all the buildings and walls (that some of us even used to play in/with while being kids) are an almost perfect representation of a reality some actually lived.
Good thing it's all in the past now. Or... is it?
Performance wise, Stalker didn't run perfect on the gear I had at it's launch but it ran better than Metro 2033 is now on my actual PC. And tbh I don't even complain about technical issues, as it seems like an ok optimised game. In regard to that I blame my PC but I also blame the devs for not using properly the subject for making something that could have been VERY good. Instead, for me, this game is just... good. Not worth upgrading, not worth feeling sorry for not playing in full DX11 "splendor".
And the perfect example for this was and still is... well... Crysis. Gameplay and other minuses asside, It is/was a masterpiece in terms of gfx. Just try the Sandbox Editor and you'll probably agree.

wow those pistols are pretty well made then and the AK and the shotguns , wow wish i could make a gun that looks exactly like a factory manufactured one. I think you will find SOME of the guns are home made not all.

LMAO, I played the game for half an hour and suddenly my pc shutdown due to the excessive heat. Man this game is demanding. Funny thing is that I played GTA 4 recently and my pc never overheated.
1 and 2 are still amazing.

I was lagging like crazy with setting on high with my Q6600 @ 3.0 GHz, 8GB RAM and GTX 275 OC. I have advanced physx enabled, but once I put it on medium, went from like 20 to 50 FPS. Looks fine on normal too IMHO running 1920x1080.
It definitely has that STALKER vibe, but I honestly don't mind that it's a linear game, since I don't really want to spend that much time figuring shit out. I just like to play and have fun, not spend forever figuring out where to go and what to do. As for optimization, I got well over 100 FPS on STALKER with setting cranked way up. I don't get anything like that with Metro 2033.
Seems like a cool game so far. I've not played it that much, but I think it will definitely be a game that I finish, even though I'm pretty heavy in to BC2 and DoW 2: CR right now.

Performance will depend on what's happening on the screen obviously. And this game is very inconsistent, you probably just passed the more performance demanding area, that's why it runs ok now.
Hopefully someone will do an in depth performance/quality comparison soon enough (unless someone already did?). There's a lot of options in the game, surely this thing could be tweaked.
The thing that bogs my machine down the most seems to be connected to the lighting. In areas with some heavy effects with sun rays and some scattering fps can drop under 30 and sometimes even under 20.

"r_vsync on" doesn't work?
I know the command is on the user.cfg (the User/AppData/Local/4AGames/Metro one, the other one doesn't work) but I haven't tried it.

Dont know about you guys but i find the game very enyojable. The graphics are top notch, runs smoothly on my 2 year old PC, story is ok and the overall feel is suprisingly good. Seeing as this game uses same engine as stalker than im suprised. I know I know Stalker has huge open areas and this tight corridors but still. Thumbs UP. Im on chapter 4 and im wondering how long is the game anyway?
Spoiler: | Seeing as the game begins and i get attacked by a swarm of enemies and then the game actually starts 8 days earlier then im wondering how long is it. Im playing it and i highly doubt that all those small things i have done have taken me a couple of days... |

Indeed, so far its very atmospheric and looks amazing. Those textures are very nice (like the flashlight charger, you can see the ridges on the tank, that is some amazing detail). Too bad I cannot comfortably play it on the highest settings, it just doesnt feel smooth, and that is of the umpost importance to me in an FPS, the movement and feel for the gun has to be smooth. So I had to lower it to normal and it still looks good. Hopefully there is a way to modify the settings one by one, because that would give me better performance and at the same time will look good.
Yeah ammo is not everywhere, but this is not COD. It makes you frantic and forces you to make every shot count, a welcome change of pace from recent shooters. And as I understood from the game, guns are weak not only because they are home made/modified, its also because of the shitty ammo you use that is also home made. Wheres the prenuke ammo is used as currency but can also be used in guns.
And I see how someone could confuse this with the stalker engine. Some things are straight out of stalker, like the guitar sounds, radiation detector, even cocking the Ak sounds exactly the same as in stalker. It also has a very similar bleak, post apocalyptic setting with a lot of grays.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.

Use stealth next time, AND shotguns, most SMG's are indeed pathetic it's like shooting needles, plastic ones.
