Alright. After a bit of searching online, I have found that this game will not run if you have 480p or 1080i active in your video settings. Rolling Eyes

So...HI-Def TV owners out there be forewarned. Change your setting to normal interlace and she'll play just fine. Fun game. Wink

Hope this helps someone. I´m waiting for the PATCH !!!!!! Sad

Bad gfx? What are you on? It looks better than any other game in the genre (except resident evil 4).

I think the game is great.
I love how you can interact with the enviroment and use that to your advantage when killing enemies, it's a good ammo saver Smile
The camera is fine also. If you have played survivor horror games before (alone in the dark, resident evil etc) you will not get upset about the camera. The camera in this is actually better than in those game because here it follows the player instead of firm camera angels like in the above mentioned games.

It's an overall great survivor horror game. It will not dissapoint you if you like the genre, so grab it. Smile

Although the game lacks polishing nearly everywhere, its intense and interesting atmosphere saves it from being just an average game. Here are my issues I have:

- Average controls which could get pretty annoying while being in the middle of a fight against more than one foe.

- No manual camera control you'd definitely need in some (tight) places.

- No map (!). Or did I just miss something?! There's way too much trial & error for my liking, not knowing where to head next many times.

- The graphics are just about average on Xbox. Even though there are many nice looking locations, most of the textures are pretty washed-out and jaggy. But this is what you get sometimes when playing multi-platform games. And since content over style wins in this game, it's no prob at all.

- Weak gun sound. The pistol just sounds like an exploding balloon.

Well, those are my cons so far. I'm several hours into the game now and I still like it. Besides its flaws it's still a game you'd definitely need to take a look at if you're a fan of survival horror games or movies like John Carpenter's "The Thing". My verdict so far: 75 - 80%.

you dont say?

i was running around for ten minutes just in the beginning of the game just trying to find out what to do. like it was some kind of tricky puzzle or something. all paths lead me up to this stupid hut, but there was nothing i could do in there!? wtf!?!? after running around in circles a couple of times i accidently ran down some stares to the other side of the damn boat. where i was supposed to go, but couldnt see it. Mad

seriously, if a games challenge is its camera, then i think ill pass. i might give it one more try later, to see if this was just a one-thing-happening, or else im trashing it!

Give me a break. If you were on that boat yourself, would you see every single path before you actually stand right at it? No, not likley.

It's more than ok to not like the way the camera behaves, but complaining that you dont see the path and all because of the camera is just ridiculus Nailbiter Smile
Maybe you want the camera to pan over from viewing you to the path you shuld take? Wink

The camera follows the player so it's quite obvious that you wont see path's that isn't where the player is, you have to go to the path to see it Smile
And I gurantee you that if the weather was all sunny you would see the path MUCH easier. Just in real life.

In the oil rig, after giving the girl the antidote and fighting the guys with the big left arms... you're meant to go looking for the notes off some guy's laptop but all the paths to the habitation lab are cut off. I get to the big room with the huge shipping containers and something huge is pounding on the closed opening on the roof. Where do I go from here?

well the reardeck wasnt that big. i ran in circles maybe 10 times and only found it by mistake?

im sure i would see stares leading down to one side of the boat even if i was on the titanic while sinking in real life senario!

just ruins the gameplay for me. but since most seem to not have a problem with this part it might be just me getting needing new glasses. Wink

anyway, played some more, got into a dark room and went into first person mode, but couldnt see where i was cuz flashlight kept flying up in the air.

lol im sorry for complaining so much, but im having problem getting into this game due to gameplay. think ill just wait for sw republic...

Just started playing this game and I am immensely impressed! The crazy angles due to the ship being anything but level, the continous torrential rain and the huge waves and storm effects set this apart from anything I have ever played before. Visually the game is awesome and the attention to detail Darkworks have applied to the game environments is blatantly obvious. The water drops and blood splashes on the camera when you pop a head are awesome too and yeah okay, the enemies are total ripoffs from aliens, the thing and most other sci-fi horror monsters but they are really well designed and implemented! I dont have any complaints about the controls or the camera and I think it all works very well. All games like this usually have a map or map system of some sort but I think a lack of a map adds to the challenge and makes the game more realistic. The character does drop hints like saying when he thinks hes going the wrong way or mentioning specific doors he hasnt yet been through. Overall this game has surpassed my expectations so far and the only thing that may let it down for me personally is the playtime required to complete the game. So does anyone know how long the game is? Smile

*spoilers*

I am stuck in the corridor of doors!. Some doors are locked, one needs a card key, some need a code, and one needs a special handle. Of the rooms that are open (armory, medical room, bunk room, supply room, experimental monkey room, burnt out light room), I have searched everything and can't get out of this area. I even shot the power supply box in the lower half flooded floor (Now the water has a surge of electricity every minute or so.).

I was stuck in here for about an hour last night and decided I shoul leave the xbox paused, get some sleep and sober up a little, and give it another try in the morning... well no luck! Wow is it ever frustrating.

I am just getting started, but so far....

I like - the mood, graphics, motion of the ocean, setting.

I don't like - no map, camera angles at some times, being stuck in a dark room with a flashlight thjat keeps pointing towards the ceiling.

I have the exact same problem.

I have looked everywhere.

I'm currently in the lower corridor looking at the door to the 'Habitation Module'

The damn thing wont open. Usually if its locked or stuck Hansen says this but with this door, now, (it opened before) it doesnt say anything.

Im beginning to think its some bug or something.

Going into the Habitation Module from the Science Labs says that there's a problem with the elevators so I kinda assumed maybe all elevators to the habitation lab are down... but then again, I feel like I've explored ever inch of the rig and no new doors are opening up... I'm totally lost, I hope it's not a bug.

If that's the right way to the dormitories then I'm pretty sure it is a bug, since that happened earlier in the game when I exited that elevator and tried to get back in. Reloading an earlier save fixed it, but not this time...

This sucks.

If Karak says he's finished the game, how likely is it that there is a bug preventing people from finishing it when it's the same version?

Guys. Just saw that you are having a problem. Let me go and see whats up with the game on my end and what mine does. There are reports all over the net of DDE's and such. I FTP'ed mine over using cute FTP and verified files(Something I have done since some other games gave me grief) check that first. I know that on my xbox with my 120 gig harddrive, the game runs fine, and on my normal xbox it crashed twice. Let me check some things out for you. And I will post an update in my review if its a hardware issue.

A very equal possibility is that we're all just lost and can't find the right place to go. After clearning out the science labs (giving the girl and yourself the antidote), did you go back to the habitation module via the main drilling platform / lower hallwall? Is that where the guy's laptop is, the habitation module with the slimy tunnels?

I ftp'd the rars to my xbox and extracted them with ComplexTools so I'm positive no data got corrupted or anything. But who knows, maybe it is a bug in the door to the habitation module.

I made a hdd fix, the same day the game was rls, i completed teh game less than 6 hours.

If you check out the bonus section (awesome made btw,the way the music and pictures move) most of the monsters never made it to final stage. Gotta be the shortest game iv'e played so far, I saw some bugs as well, serious ones.

Only you and one character, anna. The rest are either dead or not in game. The game felt like a typicaly mindless shooter in the end, what was the point really?

After the end, btw less than 1 minute end fmv, I felt like wtf "was this it?"...

NOTE SAME BUG HAPPENED TO ME: READ HERE

"Find kamsky's laptop" You have to go the elevator "habitation module" where you encountered the first climbing monster. First time nothing happened for me, hansen said nothing, I had to restart the game completly in order for the elevator to work. Hell i played over 5 hours before finding out it was some shtty bug.

*If you go the other way, "water elevator" he will say something like "the elevator seems stuck, I have to choose another way

*Elevator that is the correct one, you used it before. Go to that big room when the roof is about to fall down, 2 monsters "should" drop down later as you play. But when bug occured nothing happened.

*Correct elevator is when you first encountered that monster who climbs on celiings, elevator tag reads "Habitation module"

It's a serious bug happening to many peeps sadly Sad
Hell I even tried to use some old saves, no joy there. So i restarted the game completly, no worries this game is way to short.

*music in may places are downright terrible
*Weapon animation terrible, jerky
*To short
*many monsters that never made into final
*characters, story? where?
*Gfx sometimes the game looked horrible, but mostly excellent done
*props for ubi trying to make new ground in this genre

Things I liked
*gfx sometimes
*location, felt like the thing 2 Razz
*bonus section, they way the pictures are shown+music is fabolous, the music in storyboard section should been used in the game
*some creepy monsters, to few actually

Thanks karak and GP Force. How this bug got through any kind of testing is beyond me. I deleted my saves and started over, and if it fucks up again then I don't think I'll bother with this game anymore. It's good for one or two playthroughs but not three. Smile
