Err, progress is an overstatement. I still consider XP a good gaming system. But we are forced o move. I've totally skipped Vista and moved on Win7. Don't like the damn thing at all..

BTW, Vista/7 64 is much more stable and secure. What more, XP is only in extended support, so that means no real updates anymore.

Well, there really isn't a reason to go for Vista, but you know, if you MUST use old Laughing, then Vista SP2 64bit is the much better choice than XP.

So what is to know about 64? Scratch Head

I wouldn't bother. The "DLC" is incredibly disappointing, it's like 5 missions of nothing but driving while shooting missiles.

They reimplemented GDI in Vista SP2?

There isn't really anything to know about x64 from the consumer stand point. There are no software issues, everything that works in x86 will work in x64. Software that supports x64 will have a separate or integrated installer for x64. When installing drivers you choose x64 instead of x86, and that's about it. Unless you have some really old hardware, x64 will work fine.

Except if you are gonna move to x64, it's definitely to at least Vista, not XP. XP 64-bit is not that great in terms of reliability and support from what I've heard. But really, if you intend to upgrade.. go for W7.

While not all features are supported, the Windows Vista Platform Update includes support for most of the WDDM1.1 features of Windows 7. Unfortunately, GDI acceleration is not included, but this is hardly an issue.

I agree that Vista SP2 X64 is pretty decent, but the X86 version it's not that great. What Imiss the most it's the fact that every thing that was easily accesed in '98/XP, now it's hidden under layers of useless stuff. I also want back the possibility to get the '98 simple appearance back ( XP/Vista had that option, Win7 doesn't).

well for one, 64 makes use of high levels of ram yes... so not much point to go to 64 if you have 2 gb of ram yeah? would you really get THAT much out of it in such a case?

also, not much of a problem THESE days i know, but 64 requires 64 compatible hardware doesnt it?

in short, i just dont feel comfortable switching to something i have no understanding of, which is why id prefer to know a little more about it... or do i know all i need to know about it.

What bothers me about these DLCs is that you have to load an old save or move another character´s save to play them. The game should have a more user-friendly interface for multiple characters.

Well hardware wise, you only need the CPU to support x64 as far as I know. I am not sure about the details on older single cores, but any CPU since the release of dual cores definitely has x64 support.

As for necessity of moving to x64... not that much for simple use, there's no need to move to x64 just for itself. However x64 is the future so to speak, so if you intend to upgrade, you should go for the 64-bit version, since there's absolutely no reason not to.

Indeed, the only draw back is the extra 2-3GB HDD space x64 systems take because they store both the 32-bit DLLs and 64-bit.

Is the game locked to a default Adapter/Connection. I switched my PPoE connection through a router a few weeks back - haven't played Mass Effect 2 in the meantime.

Installed last two DLCs (alternate + hammerhead) and it won't accept my new network adapter after selecting it with iNatan's GUI unlocker(it gives me the could not authenticate DLC blabla in main menu).

Any way to reset the default adapter?

No, I don't think it is locked to an adapter, it is just the one you select with the unlocker. Tried choosing another one? Smile
