There are guides on how to get online to PSN without updating, I have not tested them because I updated but there are guides.

from what I read its pretty simple to bypass the firmware check on Psn sign in, so you should be able to keep other os and still play on psn

It won't be long until everyone is forced to update to this or newer FW. They can just include it with new games.

yah i honestly don't care about connecting to the psn. it worries me that the newer games will have this shit on them and that you're forced to install it just to play that game. i can understand them blocking you from their network if you refuse it but you shouldn't be forced to install it because you bought the latest hot shit title and it's required to install it just to play.

Do this and you're good to go.
BYPASS 3.21
You can go to customize your network settings from XMB, and get to the part about DNS nameservers. Select custom, and enter the following IP as your Primary DNS:
67.202.81.137
click ok then finish then you should be able to play online, NO UPDATES! NO COMPUTER NEEDED ON ALL THE TIME ASWELL!!!!

but then again its kinda pointless if you have a slim , they don't have the Hypervisor drivers in them and the other Os, so if your on fat wait for gehot or connect to PSN though PC becasue on Slims your already OSless

yup, if you got a slim you're already fucked.
I'm gonna wait a bit (got a 40gb fat) and see how things develop.
If something does come up that warrants keeping my ps3 off PSN for good I guess I'll just purchase a slim for online gaming. They're affordable enough nowadays.

ok I just got around to trying this and it does work but it seems to have cut my connection speed by 2/3. Still, it's better than installing the update I guess.

The only game I play on PSN is MW2 anyways, I can wait until Geohot releases the CFW. Until then I will never update, and I feel bad for those who do, because when you do, Geohot will release his update, then you'll be saying damn I should not have updated.
Just wait it out, its nice outside, there are other ways to pass the time then to waste it on PSN. Geohot will come through as he always does for the Iphone.

Hey guys, I know many of you have seen the iPhone OS 4.0 jailbreak pic that I've released; truth is I was working on that more than the PS3 CFW as of late...BUT, that's only because I've worked out most of the issues with the CFW.
I was meaning to release it today, but the whole proxy block led to more tests to see if this is safe to use on PSN.
Don't worry guys I know it's getting hard to play offline for this long, but I assure you I'm working really hard to release it asap.
I'm pretty sure it's safe to say this CFW he's supposedly going to leak won't play isos. My question is how long till someone makes his CFW do that?

This is going to be an annoying cat and mouse game. The Moment Geohot releases his CFW, you know Sony will get working on 3.22, which means we will need yet another release from Geohot whenever Sony releases a FW.
In other words, Sony will just keep coming out with FW's to annoy us, while we have to depend on Geohot to counter anything Sony releases.
And what if Sony can detect Geohots CFW and ban people from PSN? Then anyone who installed it will be screwed.
We need to find a new way to connect to PSN using old firmware.

True dat man. I don't even think I've played 1 game online on my ps3 in the two years I've owned it. Been online 1 time with my PSP and it hasn't been turned on in 2 years. Still have the OG 1.5 firmware on it. I want to try that remote stuff with my PSP but I hate to update the firmware. I don't use it anymore but I hate that I might lose out on something by updating it.
