just figured how easy it seems to install(being a solderless option and all) and possibly being the best current solution to those like me who dunno crap about softmodding etc.

anyways i just wanted to see if anyone has got one and what they think about it as well as ask if they've encountered any problems with it or whatever.

thx.

softmodding is easy and fully reversable, and doesnt void your warranty...oh...and its FREE too Wink

is it easier than a 5 minute plug and play solution?

and since i can just take the drivekey out i'm guessing that it also counts as reversable.

i'd rather pay a bit of money for an easy, surefire solution than watching tutorials and messing with comp/wii etc. even if it voids the warranty.

Yes.

Copy certain files to SD card.
Insert SD card into Wii.
Load file from SD card.
Et voila! You're done =)

All you need to do after that is what you'd need to do with a modchip anyway; install software that actually gives you the extra functionality (like ISO loading, etc etc)

Then you can play your isos from a usb disk !

Imagine running the iso loader and having a library of 150 games to choose from. Which all load faster than from a fucking dvd.

Wii softmodding = EPIC WIN

to use a drivekey you have to open the wii/void your warranty? with softmod you dont.. not to mention i have shown total muppets how to do it, so id say unless your IQ is rarely over room temp, you should be ok with softmodding and besides... afaik you still need to do SOME softmodding to get more recent games working on the drivekeys, you have to update them

I followed this tutorial :
http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/16970-new-3-1-4-1-softmod-any-wii.html

Anyway, if you screw up, then you can definitely brick your Wii.

@asucahayashi

I bought a drivekey 2 weeks ago, so far i have no problems at all, but there are some things you should know before getting one..

1. if your Wii system firmware is 4.2, you will not be able to play out of region games
2. make sure the drivekey is v2.0 as it has the latest firmware including a fix for NSMB
3. drive key will not work with the newest DVD drive ( i think it's called D3-2) as the drive itself can't read burned DVD's.

Try and go to http://www.wiihacks.com they have the best info and Q/A

Also from mm-konsol Wink
If you order a console + key it will work, i don't know if they have some older models, or just replaces the DVD-Drive, but who cares Smile

+1 on softmodding. Works a treat, and costs nothing if you already have an external HDD Smile

I didn't, but local FRY's had one for 40 bucks - about the cost of a WII game.

So is it not possible to play PAL games on a soft-modded machine? Everytime I try to load one, I get the dreaded video not compatible on my TV.

Yep, like Mortibus says, most loaders can force the region, but it's best to use a Priiloader hack to make your Wii region free (and another to disable the disc update check, hehe)
