While I agree from what I could see in the demo I'd love to play the game as it was intended to be played (meaning: retail) but I'm not buying it a) because of the drm (then again, see the PA comic) and b) I don't like to buy a pig in a poke.
If anybody asks that's what I'm staying with. I pirate games so I can try the game without stupid demo restrictions and if I like it I buy it.

Oh well, thank god the Cultures games are still playable - love those cartoony graphics.(Diggles is a great game, too, and that clearly uses some of the code from Cultures).
Epsilon: Game is great btw, I love it, so far it's a definite goty. It's remarkable how much has changed since the beta, stardock have been working their asses off, and it shows.

Epsilon: That's why I actually like 7. I feel like it's a needed return to the old formula, bu8t with a few extra's. The extra's/adittions are all of the farm building kind tho, and not about the military building kind.

Only you cannot design your cities yourself, meaning you do not get to decide the layout of roads, sure you get to decide where on the road you place a building but it's not really settlers then when you've got everything laid out for you.

http://www.geek.com/articles/games/ubisofts-drm-issues-hit-australia-20100331/
Almost a month after players first reported connectivity issues with Assassin’s Creed II, Ubisoft’s digital rights management continues to foil the efforts of players to enjoy their own games.
This time, Australians have reported that the strategy title Settlers 7 won’t work, as the servers required to authenticate the game are “not available,” according to the error. Ubisoft forum moderator “BB_Foxbox” admits this is a problem especially common in Australia and writes that the company is doing everything it can to fix the problem.

True, the main roads are already there.
Personally the good points, to me, outweight the bad points like that tho.
On a sidenote. The clone with a G2Play key works wonders as there's no actual copy protection on the disc

I am seriously considering grabbing this game despite the aweful DRM mess that it comes with.... Where is the best (cheapest place) to buy a key online...
Unless people think that skid or someone is likely to be releasing a crk in the nearish future.
Also for people with full game, is there still only video tutorials? or is it a lot more complete with the full version?

Been doing skirmish matches and similar but some say the campaign's early mission works as a introduction to the various game mechanics.
The cheapest place would probably be a keystore like say G2Play or others though I don't know how cheap it is compared to various other retail sources.
(Digital download being considered among the more expensive followed by retail store chains and then sources like key sellers and similar I think.)
Lots to do in the game though, also has that achievement system similar to Anno and if you get enough of those uPlay points you can unlock extra stuff like maps and various enhancements.

Don't expect a crack before AC2 gets a scene release.Server emulation with values is even more complex with this game i think. Here is the cheapest key i found so far: http://www.g2play.net/store/The-Settlers/
Q6600 OC 3.0ghz, MSI R9 280x Gaming Edition, 7gb ram, Asus P5KC

Thanks very much for the posts so far.
In the demo, I created my basic stuff like woodcutters, forester, there was a stone supply at the north so I made a stone cutter.
Problem was when I decided to start making tools n stuff and you need iron, wasnt any around, there were other small villages and spots apart from the main one you start out but couldnt figure out how to expand into those areas to be able to create iron mines etc... Where it all started getting confusing to me as without a decent manual or tutorial i was like WTF....
Seems like a funky game but maybe its too complex for my simple mind? Or I am missing some basic mechanics which will make it all a lot simpler in the longrun? Anyone with experience in this title wanna give a quick run down, not expecting an entire manual, just pointers on how to expand, fighting etc....
If the main game has these as introductory missions i guess its fine but otherwise.

There's supposedly a clone of the disc image around, you'd need to acquire that.
(Or get a Steam key and get it that way.)

This worked yesterday evening, but now I have a problem. The Ubisoft Game Launcher still logs in and seems OK. It starts up the game, but in game I get a message saying that the servers are not available, and I have to quit the game. Is it just me, or are the servers down atm?

Have you seen a steam key for sale at a cheap price like on g2play the retail key ?

aside from a different values.db, there are 5-6 servers it logs to, 2-3 for requests, the others for replies. The EMU server would have to be recompiled to accept the NEW ports. But MOSTLY the ORIGINAL game has to work first, with UBI server being down its impossible to even get a start on it. Some of the ports have been logged and noted but without an online server working its pointless ATM

Game is fine now, atleast I have had no problems aside from that short downtime a while ago.
(Might be down in other regions perhaps?)

Not that I know how it's done but a crack or similar workaround would indeed be nice even if just as a backup option should the servers be down.
(Seeing as there's like 1800+ triggers in AC2 makes things a bit complicated however, SH5 must have a lot due to it's open nature and Settlers as well I imagine, Splinter Cell might work better as would other more linear titles like say Ghost Recon and Prince of Persia.)
