If anyone, like me, finds the game's music great, there is a way to extract it.
Thread link
They are in convenient MP3 format, and the best thing is that they aren't just generic code-named files, they actually have the title of the song in them. They are not taged, but a patient guy can clear them up.

So, might be a stupid question, but here goes. I have bought a legit key for the gold edition, but I can't find any downloads for the Gold edition. Seems there was no release of it? Can I use my key for any of the other editions, or is there any other ways of downloading the Gold edition (not requesting non legit downloads)?

Just if someone is interested in the solution. Just install the original game, then the add on and the run the add on. My cdkey worked fine.

I just got Venice and I'm about to play a nice, long game with it. However, something's been bugging me since I played the vanilla game: are there any profile editors to easily unlock colours, portraits and badges? Or perhaps a full profile I can download from somewhere?
I mainly want the Emperor's portrait, but can't be arsed to beat the entire campaign and all of its sidequests on Hard difficulty to get it properly. I tend to enjoy long continuous games more than anything.

For original retail play it's used via online verification so editing the profile or even just trying to edit the "points" you have to unlock stuff with is impossible unfortunately.
(Or something like that I'm somewhat unsure how it works if you don't have net access but it might use some encryption on the save/profile data as well.)

Yeah, profiles are not easily editable, but offline ones can be shared. I managed to get one from the Ubisoft forums that has a good bunch of stuff unlocked, including all buildings and many titles. Most, if not all, portraits are at least purchaseable, but the guy didn't have many gems (points) in reserve, so I could only buy the Emperor.
I'll see if I can find a more complete profile, but that one I just got was damn hard to spot as it is.

Heh, found out Venice is pretty much fucked, and I think so is the main game as of version 1.2. There's a general memory issue related to savegames, which causes the game to randomly CTD during saving after a certain point*. The crash naturally corrupts the savegame in question, so it's essentially game-breaking unless you're really stubborn and willing to risk savegame corruption every time the game attempts to save.
It has remained unfixed for months. According to the Ubi forums, not even the devs know what the hell is going on, or so they say, so they can't even fix the goddamn problem. Jolly good show, lads. It's a huge disappointment, considering how the game is otherwise top-notch.
*The savegames keep steadily growing as a game goes on. Back when I played vanilla 1404, version 1.1, the saves grew no larger than around 8 MB, but now they've broken the 50-MB barrier (default compression level, 5, which should be the maximum). So the CTDs started hitting me and wrecked both an autosave and a quicksave so far.

Yeah it's a generic error that happens to a few other larger titles, save data collection increases as more stuff is stored and if improperly handled corruption or damage is easier, with a lot of data having to be handled or otherwise managed runtime errors also increase, probably mostly for larger and very long games as you said but that's how Anno is played so it's a real problem though I wasn't aware of it, interesting but quite a problem to deal with.

It's worse than that because the game had been going on for four hours at most (I had managed much longer games on vanilla 1.1). Granted, it was a huge map but there were just two medium AI players besides me and the neutrals. So the leak must be major.
Sigh. The better the game, the worse it is when a game-breaking bug such as this one comes around and kicks you in the face. I'll be watching the Ubi forums in case there's any news, but given it's already been over six months, I can't hope for much...

i was under the impression that the memory limits of 32bit exes (and memory leaks) were the cause of the problem. many 32bit memory intensive games can be flagged with Large Address Aware which allows them to address up to 4GB of memory. however i have tried that with Venice and it crashes the game so i gave up...
