(quoting the whole post in case it gets deleted):

Quote:

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere, or if there is another reason for it, but it seem rockstar used a cracked version of Max Payne 2 for steam retail. Check out this picture:

As you can see there's an ASCII "Myth" logo, which is an old cracking team that were quite prevelent a while back. Seems Rockstar got a little lazy and used this crack instead of recompilling their executable without DRM.

Note: The logo is much easier to see if you back away from it or just zoom out using by holding the ctrl key and spinning your mouse wheel.

Update: They've stealth patched out the logo in the executable, which is a shame. But if anyone of you want to see the logo first hand, just open the testapp.exe, it's in there too, and they forgot to update that, check out the pic:

Heheh, lazy R* - busted!

Same thing happened back with Ubisoft (or EA?), when the support team game someone a cracked EXE because he was having trouble with the copy protection. Laughing

And waited a hour and a half for UHARC to to finish extracting, and then fifteen more minutes for the sound injector to finish making them low quality audio files. Laughing These days it will probably be faster to download the original game. Razz

Hehe, I guess recompiling a big project like a game is too much of a hassle, when the original dev machine is long gone.

Couldn't they at least check it for tags, it's right at the header ... or just wrap it with steamstub or upx.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

It may just be that a former Myth cracker is working at Rockstar or has connections with Myth group. There should be an investigation as to where he found this crack or how he created it. This is a good lead for FBI

Might this make it easier for hackers to get into the gamer's computer,
since their hack is being used? Maybe they hid a backdoor in it.

Sad

No, Max Payne 2 was built from scratch to be played on chair in front of computer. Anything else just spoiled the game experience.

And now when I come to think of it, why don't Remedy bundle Alan Wake with a couch? What if someone have their console next to PC and play games in chair like on PC? Their gaming experience will be spoiled!

@iNatan, sueil: Steam forums, GameTrailers and YouTube comment sections are very evil places. They suck you in, and before you know 1.5 hours have passed and you are still reading posts
