I installed this version on top of the Alcoholclone of the Sims 2 DVD, and it works like a charm, cannot mount this image with alcohol 120% or it detects the emulation software and won't run, so it works burning it. Smile

PostPosted: Fri, 4th Mar 2005 21:53    Post subject: Slow Loading
I've installed the expansion and it seems to be working fine with CD1 mounted in daemon tools.

Now, all along sims 2 has been incredibly slow to load. Every time it starts up and loads a city it can literally take 10 minutes.

This is also the case with university.

I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that it's mounted and the game has a problem reading the cd properly, or if there's something else the matter that can be dealt with.

I'd upgrade to newer detonator drivers but I fail to see how that could be the problem.

The fact that it is mounted should make the loading even faster than if you pop in the cd. Best would be if you used the mini-image instead of the image you burnt/installed from. A defrag should also speed up the loading process.

Personally the install went fine for me with Daemon tools + mini image. And the game runs rock solid. Loading times are irritating, though.

Actually it seems like I have the same problem that a lot of other people have.

It will just sit the at the final phase of loading and not really get anywhere.

the problem maybe that the installer will only check the drive in use from the start of the install ... i installed from alcohol, so had to make an image of cd4 for alcohol to mount before i could carry on... so maybe if u make an image of ur dvd with alcohol and install totally from the same virtual drive ,u should be ok

Title 1.000.000.000.000 in the sims series.

Explain me how someone can say 'hmm cool, a sequel'.

I think you'll have to build some house, train your dude/dudess/kiddie, and then get a job. And this for hours hours/days, and it never ends.

Make sure you are using the Mini-image and that It's mounted in Daemon-tools and not Alcohol. Removing CloneCD could be another good thing to do.

What CD crack was this? TNT?

EDIT
I get the problem where it detects "CD/DVD emulation software" and won't run. Of course, I'm running Daemon Tools. I've tried running the game with the disc 1 image mounted, burned, and also BLeH's mini image along with TNT's. None are working for me. All come up with the same problem, except for the fact that disc 1 burnt will simply have the first screen sit there for a long time (reading the disc of course), then it will say "CD/DVD emulation software detected" etc.

Anyone getting the same problem?

Which is why Clone CDs suck... so many problems. Better off waiting for the cracked version. Works for some people... kinda like the release of Starwars Republic Commando-PCGame even though that ones cracked, or Nascar Sim Racing clone cd vers.

Tatsh - Do you have clonecd installed? If so remove it and stay with Bleh's mini-image mounted in D-Tools.

OK, thanks

Anyway to like remove it without removing it?

EDIT:
That worked, however I still question if there's a way to make it think CloneCD is not installed but still have CloneCD installed. If it is checking the registry it might be impossible.

You don't really need CloneCD if you want to copy/burn games or other stuff. Use Alcohol 120% instead.

As I said before you can't use the mini-image with Alcohol, it only works with D-tools. It's the same problem with SF3 mini images.

TNT release is useless and taken from VNG clone so it shouldn't make any difference, uninstalling CloneCD and closing alcohol/daemon after mounting should do guys Smile.

I uninstalled CloneCD for now.

I'm able to leave Daemon running after mounting and the game works perfect.

OK, I figured out that it's checking the registry for CloneCD entries every time it starts.

If you use CloneCD 3.3.4.1 and refuse to upgrade like me, then you need to remove just one key entry.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elaborate Bytes]

I'd say back it up and restore it whenever you need it.

Is there a way to make a .reg remove a key rather than insert one? I'd like to make an on and off "switch" basically with .reg files.

Ive installed with Deamon tools ( mounted both cds drives ) and plays fine w/o any issues..
Im usin the CD ver of Sims 2 and it did ask for cd4 to make some updates.. I denied access for sims to get on net, so it wouldnt try to update from EA. Ive used no patches or no-cd patches. But plays fine does seem a little slower then before.
So all is GOOD !!!

How did you "denied Access" to the update?

The whole problem I'm having is, I can't get past the CD 4
prompt it keeps yelling about. Since I have the DVD version
of the game I don't have any CD's of the sims on hand to use.

I have heard that someone cloned there DVD and mounted it. So when the time came for the update to be ran, they didn't have to take the exp pack disc out of there drive. Taking the disc out of the drive is what causes the problem.

I hate this update system. Someone in an eariler post has already bitched about this and I would just like to add to it. IT SUCKS!!!

I would really like to try this exp pack out, but need to get past the update crap first. One person on here even suggested to load the update before the exp pack. I have tried that and it still asks for a CD. Even if I grab the DVD update it asks for a CD.

So what your saying is the update for the game needs to access the internet to load the update. I thought it was already on the exp pack CD itself. I never looked for the file in general but it seemed to me it was on the disk. Could be wrong...

I will give this a shot when I get off work. So even if you stop the update from running, it won't stop the exp pack from completing it's install?

The program never asked me if I wanted to access the internet. It just pops up a screen saying "Please Insert Disc 4".

I suppose I could just as well unplug my computer from the router before the update starts. Only other option is to get a hold of the CD version and just keep a copy of CD 4 on hand just for this, which sucks.

Screw you EA... Bastards..

It does 2 updates...
1.. it asked for cd4.. which i have cause i installed from cd not dvd ( Im sure the dvd ver was a HOMEBREW and thats why it thinks there is a cd4 ).
2.. It asks to update through the internet which i denied.

So the main point I see it that the DVD ver has issues when u try the exp. pack cause I would beat its a homebrew DVD ( ppl can combine cd into a dvd by combining the extracted cd to one folder. It works I did it with UT2004 but that does change that exp packs might want a certain cd like this game in which your kinda screwed. Cause even if you put in teh dvd it aint teh right disk that the update is lookin for).. thats what im thinkin..
ReN
Look places maybe you might find cd4..

I'm way ahead of you bud. It is a homebrew. I put it on DVD some time ago.

I can get CD 4 again, no problem.

Thanks for insight & help.

But it did pull some files off cd4 when it did the update. Im sure some texture, sound, and skin files. So you might run into problems later since they wont be in the uni folders that teh program thinks they are. But the internet Updates are not needed at this time. They may be needed when some more exp packs come out.
