I completely agree with BCOG, this "improved texture pack" is a huge fail and it makes the game look ugly and unrealistic.

More than 3000 texture's are redone Game looks really great with it.
You might need a good vid card tho, as on my old 3870x2 it didn't run good at all.

Link to Fileplanet for those that want to download it as one file instead of the eight from rapidshare.

I can't see the fucking screenshots from that site. Crying or Very sad

Probably deliberate on his part haha:

these are just 3 random screens but pretty much all of them have visual artifacts/ugly amounts of messy noise. How anyone could see this as an improvement is beyond my comprehension. Knowing his sharpness fetish however I wouldn't be surprised if these were taken at full res then downsized and sharpened again just to make them that much more realistic. I guess the new biggest danger in Geralt's world is splinters from wood Wink

No doubt. Those were all sharpened to hell and back. The same thing was done with the Fallout3 texture packs. At least initially when they all started coming out. I didn't check beyond that. They take the original texture, increase the size, sharpen the shit out of it, then shove it back in the game.

texture packs always look like ass to me

Who said No Console...?

CD Projekt has quashed rumours that console versions of The Witcher 2 have been scrapped.

Speculation swirled out of news that Namco Bandai had signed as the PC game's European distributor - the point being that no console versions were mentioned.

"CD Projekt always wanted and still plans to develop The Witcher 2 on consoles - nothing has changed," tweeted the company.

Alek Pakulski, community manager, added: "There are some rumours about us cancelling the console versions. That's just wrong, guys!"

Nevertheless, CD Projekt has not confirmed a date for the console versions of the game; a simultaneous ship with PC in 2011 looks unlikely.

Namco Bandai to support "always on" DRM for PC games

http://news.bigdownload.com/2010/05/27/namco-bandai-to-support-always-on-drm-for-pc-games

Quote:
It looks like Ubisoft's DRM "always on" internet set-up for its PC games has at least one publisher's support. Computer and Video Games is reporting that Namco Bandai believes that Ubisoft's set-up is best because, according to them, there's nothing else that will work.

The company's VP Olivier Comte is quoted as saying, "I will be very honest. I think it's a good [approach] for one reason: I have no alternative today." Some companies and publishers might disagree with that attitude, and Comte himself states, "Is the best one? Certainly not ..." However he adds, " ... as of today if I can make something else I'll do it, but it's better to do something than not do something."

Oh, now that's a kick to the teeth for all the fans. "So there is nothing better out there, except for this ridiculous and draconic DRM, so we'll be using that." That's just stupid!

That news was less than two days old when I posted - even if it were older, what does it matter anyway if it's relevant to the thread and hasn't been mentioned yet? Think it's you who needs to read a bit more closely.

While it's no 100% confirmation that Witcher 2 will use DRM like that, if the stance of the execs in the publishing company are like that, I wouldn't be surprised at all if/when they make the announcement that they'll publish the game with 'always on' DRM.

Well, let them waste money in protection.. pirates will be able to play sooner or later, the only thing that will change will be their sales. and i must admit it will be a shame to see witcher 2 dragged into this.. such a good tittle

After reading CD Project's stance on DRM I like them even more Smile And yes, I bough the first Witcher and I'm gonna buy the second too, but I would like to play it without a lot of Bullshit DRM that is gonna get cracked fast anyway.

With Cd Project's internal policy and Namco Bandai as their publisher (Namco apparently loves Ubi like DRM), it's gonna be interesting to see which policy wins.

Ps. If you like The Witcher I would recommend reading the books too. Currently there are 2 books in english (The Wticher and Blood of the Elves) Wink

In our view, aggressive attempts at stopping piracy are less important than ensuring that the relation between game price, game quality, and any additional services offered in connection with a game are favorable enough to encourage players to reach for original game copies.

Bought and paid for my copy of The Witcher back when it first game out, then CDP go and give that MONSTER update stuff away for free? With no intrusive DRM? Making an awesome game just that much better? That's a win in every category =)

Hehe...I'm such a dork,I actually own 3 copies of the first witcher. Very Happy
Bought it when it first arrived and then loaned the copy to a friend who lives quite far away. Then wanting to play it later on,so I bought the enhanced edition for that.
And now,it was ultra cheap on GG(4 euros, paid with blue coins I had accumulated),so I couldn't refuse to "support" them more.

Definitely gonna get the second game,DRM or not. Smile

Our aim is to produce games that provide the best and most satisfying playing experience. Copyright protection can't stand in the way of that. Especially since it makes life difficult for players who acquire legal game copies, that is, those to whom we owe our greatest respect. Paradoxically, those who play pirated copies usually do not face the same impediments

The assumption is that protection is the only way to prevent piracy, but a glance at any file-sharing site demonstrates that this is pure fiction. This assumption is also a good way to forget one of the keys to this business: taking good care of your customers.

As I see it, the best way to prevent piracy is to set the right price relative to product quality. The gog.com website is a good example - no DRM protection, yet piracy of the games sold there is marginal.

Couldn't have said it better myself. As a Pole, I really am proud of CD-Projekt, can't believe a developer finally got it right.

The best thing about them is not the fact that they say such things, but the fact that they actually followed them to the letter with their first game, setting an example of customer and title support that has yet to be matched by anyone.

Remains to be seen if they'll keep it that way for the sequel, but for now i believe they will. At least until proven otherwise.
