In the uk it will probably be the pulse / pulse mini

Wildfire comes out in a couple of weeks and might actually be a decent budget alternative , Nexus 1 is pretty much the same price as the desire in most contracts . UK market mind

Thanks for the advice, I'll check my local prices.

Is Android here to stay, or is there gonna be another "best thing" in 1-2 years ?

Apple uses proprietary software forcing people only to be able to get whats on the market (unless you jail break it? I dunno). Has 1 shitty carrier and 1 shitty phone platform. Apple says what can and can't be purchased on their OS.

Android is here to stay and is going to wipe the floor with iphone. It's completely open source and the only limitation is hardware and your creative mind. You don't even have to put it on the google market. You can just put the .apk file up on a website for download and people can install it themselves.

If you want some great android sites to read up on these 2 are my favorite.

lol noob because I´m honest! Laughing

Besides I also use an HTC Magic...

And you´ll be able to dual-boot the iphone with the proprietary OS and the Android.

Beat that! nooooooooooooob Laughing

Take a look at the Google Nexus One. Not sure if it is the cheapest one (probably not, as there are some older HTC models), but for the specs it has a good price. Smile

Wtf, that Nexus One is EXPENSIVE. Confused

Anyway, question : If I have a phone with Android 1.6, can I update to latest Android ? Is it just ultra-compatible ?

So that I can do pretty much most stuff that the newer and more expensive phones can ? All apps etc ?

Depends on the phone.

but if its rooted, and you have access to some kind of recovery / fastboot, there is no reason why you couldnt compile AOSP youself.

So I've heard, something to do with that JIT compiler. Unfortunately as far as I'm aware there is no 2.2" release" for the moto droid yet Sad

I flashed this rom on my magic CaNNoN202 Complete Eclair (v2.1)(5/28/10), and it´s working great.

It´s more fluid than the original/official 1.5.

So for those who want to overclock your milestone/droid theres a lot easier way to do it now than flashing roms and kernals and crap

I believe you need to be rooted for this to work.

http://code.google.com/p/milestone-overclock/

install it, enable modules, set your CPU (stick with 800, best results)

wallah, your now overclocked. Get setcpu so you can set your profiles while your phone is off etc etc.

I am thinking of getting the desire, but the lack of a keyboard (and more importantly maybe Cyanogen) is putting me off.

I may have to shell out and get a Nexas
