Here's a pic of the achievement that I captured when it was still listed, if anyone wanted to see some proof:

I wonder if the MP will be a free update, or paid DLC. I wouldn't mind paying up to $5 for it, since I got such an incredible deal on the game.

Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.

Defense Grid: The Awakening is a strategy game where players
place defense fortifications (towers) to stop invading aliens
from stealing power cores from their bases.

It is up to the player to select the towers, placement, and
timing to best protect the base. This mix of strategy and
puzzle gameplay is very fun and engaging.

If you like the game, support the developers and buy it!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hiddenpath/defense-grid-2

The devs have started a multi-tiered KS for a Defence Grid (I'm English damn it, the word is Defence) sequel. They need $1m in total but the multi-tiered setup allows them to work in piecemeal:

$250k; They'll release a huge Defence Grid 1 expansion called "Containment"
$500k; Creation of a new engine for Defence Grid 2 which will be transplanted into DG1 and will include co-op!
$750k; Level editor + Linux/OSX platforms for DG1.
$1m; At this level there will be a full-blown sequel rather than just remastering DG1 with new levels and a new engine.

Very clever but I fear DG is too much of a niche game to claim $1m -- and people are still sore about the lack of co-op in the original game, so being told the devs need to raise another $500k before it happens is likely to ruffle feathers. The reward options are quite nice though, especially the $15 level which not only nets you an immediate copy of DG1 on Steam (even before funding ends.. which sounds ripe for abuse Sad) but you'll also get the expansion and all content that comes from the KS fund.

Quote:

Exactly what do I get for a $15 pledge? Do I get DG2 if we cross $1m raised?

Yes, for a $15 pledge, you get any digital game content we are able to make with the money raised. If we raise $250k, then you'll get DG:Containment. If we raise $500k, you'll get DG:Containment and the remastered DG1 with multiplayer. If we raise $750k, you'll get DG:Containment, the remastered DG1 with multiplayer, the level editor, and Mac & Linux versions. If we raise $1m you'll get DG:Containment & DG2 for sure, and the community can vote on whether they want us to have us make a remastered DG1 with multiplayer, level editor and Mac & Linux, or just put those resources towards a larger DG2 which will also have multiplayer, level editor and Mac and Linux.

It's a shame that it's a choice though. If they do hit $1m then they'll ask the community whether they should release a remastered DG1 *or* the new DG2. That's a shame, especially as the $500k tier already offers DG1 Remastered, though obviously having an entirely new game with new content *and* the proffered multiplayer is a better choice than just having DG1 Remaster, lol.

$1m / $15 = 66667 (well, 66666 and 2/3rds of a man Cool Face) people required pledging $15. I don't think it's as much of a niche game as you think; literally just about everyone on my Steam friends list has it.

Personally I loved every single second of it, just fantastic in every way. Backed this as well, damn you Kickstarter Razz

How the hell does a simple Tower Defence require 1 million dollars to make when things like Grim Dawn needed half that amount?

Even more than 1 million, that's just the part they can't finance themselves.

"costing $1 million more to build than we can self-finance,"

I thought Defence Grid did pretty well? Not to mention if they "only" raise 250k all we get is 8 more levels?

That's one expensive tower defence game...

Grim Dawn didn't need half that amount, it's likely required several times that... the KS was for final funding. Often, a game hits Kickstarter when development has been underway for several years, but the developers have just run out of money.. or foresee that they cannot finish the product with their current budget, so KS is used to raise the rest. Grim Dawn has been in development for over 2 years - so imagine how much money that's already cost the devs. The $280k that Crate asked for was basically to finish off the final stretch by employing some more artists and programmers. I'll wager that's the same with Hidden Path.

They all include DG2, everything from $15 anyhow. I posted that already and it's in one of the questions at the bottom of the page =)

Apparently I'm not the only one who isn't clear:

Quote:
we just sent in a request to the Kickstarter folks to update the text for the pledge $15 or more tier to say "...when developmet is complete - up to and including DG2". Hopefully they'll do the edit and help make it more clear.

I missed your emphasis of it because I clicked the linkand started reading the second I saw it!

Aye, it is a bit hard to understand from the vague rewards - which is why I posted the quote from the FAQ so that people can see it properly.

~edit~

Looks like they tidied up the description a bit;

Quote:

PLEDGE $15 OR MORE

First, you get a Steam code for a free copy of the original Defense Grid (PC) game immediately: as soon as we know you are a backer, even before funding closes. Then in December (we estimate), you'll get a digital copy of DG:Containment, and after that you'll get any new DG content funded from this Kickstarter when development is complete - up to and including DG2. We'll also create a new private forum for backers that you can join.
