Well, this is my bitch post. I work in phone customer support for a large mobile operator in Sweden, have been working there for half a year or so (a little more) and I feel compelled to bitch about it. So bear with me, massive qq post ahead. :')

When I started working there, I thought it was a fairly okay job, not at all as bad as most people make it out to be, but then, after two or three months, I understood why it gets such a bad rep. The amount of DIPSHITS calling in to customer support, I mean, you wouldn't believe me unless you've worked in customer support yourself... 85-90% of the customers calling in have no fucking clue of what their problem is, 70% of them are also angry at me for causing their problem (as if I had any power whatsoever over their fucking reception/money spending/quality of their sim-card), 5% of them are very nice, honest and respectful.

Now, I have no problem whatsoever with people calling in knowing nothing about their problem, except that they have a problem, I have also been in that situation when I've called customer support BUT, and here's the kicker, most of these fuckers also happen to lie to you as you're trying to help them. I mean, what the fuck? You call in to customer support to get help, not to fucking lie and act as if it's all their fault and they should just magically whip you up a solution from thin air...

Today, a customer called in to ask why all their money had disappeared on their pre-paid refillable mobile phone sim-cards, he was very angry and disturbed about the corporation taking his hard earned money and obviously thought of me as the very same person who had taken his money. I ask him for his phone number (so I can access his phone and see his phone calls and subscriptions and thus help him find the reason) and he refuses to give it to me because "you'll just sign me up to some post paid package so I'll have to pay for that as well", I humbly and respectfully argue with him about giving me his phone number for 15 fucking minutes and finally I manage to convince him that I won't sign him up to some post paid shit (I can't even do it without making a verbal contract).

I enter in his phone number and check his call history, it checks out, nothing wrong there, except wait, there's some kind of subscription on his phone, I search it up and find out he's either been buying stupid ass wallpapers for his phone or some kind of "free-sms service" from some dubious other business that has no relation to us... Since pre-paid cards are anonymous, we're not allowed to say any of the things I see in his details, even if I'm sure he's the owned and customer. So I try to siphon it out of him. I ask him if he's made any purchases from sites or tv-comercials of any kind, he answers no, I ask him if he has any family who could've done it, he says no, he tells me I'm an idiot because I'm asking stupid questions.

At this point, I'm FFFFUUUUUUU raging hard in my head. I fucking know he's bought it and he still refuses to say he's done it. I can see he's bought it several times since not only has he paid the monthly subscription for that shit service, he has also manually paid for products from them, every other fucking day. So he must be doing it consciously. I end up having to sit there, arguing with him for a fucking HOUR. He just refuses to accept that he has done any of that shit, and I can't tell him he has, even though I've spelled it out pretty fucking clear if he bothered to read between the lines.

So now he asks for compensation for the bad support service and I end up having to contact my boss (but I don't really do it, I just tell the customer I'll do it), 2 minutes later, I return to the customer and tell him I'm sorry but the boss is busy talking to another customer, but whatever you want with him, you can talk to me about. And he says his issue is with me... I've been nothing but respectable, not shouted a single time, completely calm and helpful, he on the other hand has done nothing but shout. I am getting ready to just hang up on him, but since we're not allowed to do that either, I just sit there quietly taking all the shit he throws at me. In the end I just think 'fuck it' and I rudely tell him to shut the fuck up, I then proceed to tell him that he has fucking bought this shit and that is why he has to pay for it every fucking month and that I know he's been lying to me for this whole fucking hour and a half. And that if he refuses to accept this then maybe he should just stop using phones all together.

He's quiet for 10 or so seconds, then goes completely fucking banana nuts and hangs up, I have no idea what he even said. The best part of all this is that I end up having to answer to at least one of these dipshits every single fucking work day.

So take my fucking word for it, do NOT work in phone customer service. Also yes, I am going to quit this shit job in two months. But I think I'll use this thread as a venting spot for my weekly raging.

Oh and if any of you have worked in customer service/support (doesn't have to be phone related or even on the phone), by all means, feel free to share your stories/raging. Smile

Funny thing is, I know oh-so well that what you're saying is true, I've mentioned it before, but my GF works for Adobes support, and it's the same fucking deal every now and then about people lying. If they get asked to do something they don''t feel like doing, they'll just say that they've already tried that, which the support person KNOWS DAMN WELL they haven't, since they know that it will most likely fix the persons problem.

I was working as customer-support for one of the bigger ISP's here in sweden, I got a call that totally went bananas, where the customer even started to threaten to beat me up, so I tell him that I'm the one that knows where he lives, that shut the fucker up pretty fast.

I also worked as customer-support for a big international computer company and we used to get really fucking stupid numbnuts calling in and being assholes quite alot.

Hehe, love this thread. Reminds me of the hurr-durr customers I have to deal with being tech support for an ISP here (gotta pay the rent somehow..) Laughing

Never actually had someone insult me yet though. I'm just too nice to shout at, they do get upset, but always apologize to me and tell me it's not aimed at me, but they just have to vent. Maybe its because I always agree with the customer, since I dislike the product we deliver as well Razz

Haha, yup, it can be great fun. You really have to treat them like retards and describe everything in lots of detail. Heard a colleague of mine explain an 80 year old man how to setup his wireless connection at home.. for an hour..
I had fun when he was explaining where you type your URL in a browser, but I also know he'll get me back at some point Laughing

The man thanked him for his patience afterwards as well.. Then you can't even be upset you ruined your call target for the day either.

every customer phone support dude i know hates the job.

Whenever i call customer suspport, I get shit answers, so I hate them as well.

Simple conclusion: Just cancel customer support. I never had a decent answer anyway, but I keep trying though...
