Hooray for action being this tense, but instead of showing us the direction from which the little cherubs will be coming off, I'd love to hear creepy sounds, rumbling, crying, all that stuff, then a couple of seconds of total silence, building music and then finally the attack from every direction. That would be awesome, and the devs would both keep the atmosphere and action in tact.

It looks really good, but I'd be kind of concerned if its going to slowly evolve into "press button repeatedly to win" at least on the semi-cutscene parts, to the rest of the game.

Oh god not more of those sequences where you're pinned down and all of a sudden the controls are SHIT. Don't get me wrong, Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time but I hated those parts. Actually probably one of the reasons I loved Dead Space so much was the homage to System Shock 2. It even copied the part out of it where you had to kill the spores that were clogging up parts of the ship by making a chemical agent. And it had all the hopelessness and a creepy cult.
So far looks about the same to me... the original Dead Space WAS an action game, with some horror elements. You still had plenty of ammo (more than I could expend), powerful guns, even an asteroid shooting sequence. But if the sequel loses the tension of the original, game over man. game over.

just reinstalled the original game... wanted to try my shiny new xbox controller with it (yeah i know i know, cardinal sin, shut the fuck up - id hoped it'd be decent because it WAS designed for the console...) and christ on a biscuit, if i thought the mouse controls were shit, the game became utterly UNPLAYABLE with a controller... im gonna try ONE MORE STINKIN TIME with the mouse and see if i can find some enjoyment with this game, and then im done with it... fucking hell i hope ds2 gets a decent port this time round

Started re-playing the 1st game a few days ago, been playing a couple of hours each night. I had to stop yesterday, cause I thought I was going to get a heart attack from being scared so many times. This game does something to me that I haven't felt since I played doom3 the first time, its fucking intense.
Dead space 2, will be the uncharted of horror games.

Thanks for that link, the graphics look impressive, they look a generation ahead of the last game. I've been replaying Dead Space as well (beat it only once) on my PC this time, with a PS3 controller. Dunno how anyone played this game with M+K.
Game looks awfully hectic!

Never had any kind of problem playing it with mouse/keyboard, the game had a bug where you had to turn off v-sync in-game and lock it in the control panel, without doing that the game was completely unplayable.
DS was a good game but not really scary (on the other hand, i think i would need to be at least 25 years younger to get scared by a computer game).

U had a workaround that, it was like enabling vsync on-game and disabling something on the gfx card control panel or something...just google it. It worked for me.

Yep, the control lag with M+K was due to a bug in how the game managed v-sync, if you disable it in game controls get much better.

better, yes, but still not very tight... i dunno, i STILL havent played past the first monster... i keep meaning to lower my expectations and scrape together some patience and actually TRY to get into the game long enough to get used to the sloppy controls so that i can get passed that issue and enjoy the game..
but hey.. after 4 tries i finally got into fallout 3 and eventually got used to the gameplay and actually enjoyed the overall game, so i honestly DO still have hope i can manage it with dead space too... ill REALLY try to get into it before i get the second game.
but nah.. nothing you could do 'fixed' the problem... only lessened it a bit. just annoyed me reading the official statements about how it was supposed to be like that - lying to cover up shitty controls... and all the people explaining it away that it was done like that on purpose and is acceptable because the character isnt 'a soldier, so you cant expect tight combat'... total horse shit..
that being said, ill repeat again... i REALLY want to get into the first game and experience it.. for all the pc port shittiness, ive heard good shit about the core game, and i DO love sci-fi horrors, especially space themed ones - and im probably one of the only ones who has, and really loved, the dead space flick... got it 1080 and everything
just checked that short intro vid posted above... game visually looks fun, i hope we get a good pc port this time - i look forward to hopefully enjoying it. just reading through, some of the shit sounds pretty cool, especially the spread of the infestation, and some of the artistic design direction sound really sexy... heres hoping the pc version doesnt get pulled because its not suited for the pc environment, and really needs a big screen tv 'to be enjoyed'...

You know the worst thing about these videos is that they prove how fuckin retarded it is to play such games with a controller. It's an awesome game but they should use a pc to showcase gameplay.

Bullshit camera and controls almost ruined the first game for me. I still can't believe I persevered and enjoyed it.
Isn't the sequel supposed to be more action-oriented ?

so they say... which will hopefully be a bonus. unless by action orientated they mean ill be spending most of my time crouching behind a wall, turning the 'horror' style of the game into whats essentially shooting wooden ducks as they come into view... that'd suck.
either way, looking forward to it and hoping it will be a good experience.

Yes, from the preview:
Quote: | Not quite the cautious, lumbering survival horror you remember? Dead Space 2 certainly looks more action orientated. Isaac moves faster than we remember, and players will need to think and act accordingly, blasting shutter-close buttons to avoid being ejected into space, for example, and using the environment to electrocute, ignite or - of course - dismember the necromorphs. |

The first one wasn't realy a horror anyway, I've put a 16 year old girl( ) in front of the pc and she just went meh at all the scares.

I couldnt play the first one because of the DERP-like FOV(everything zoomed in).
It made me dizzy.
edit: metro 2033 had the same problem, but there you had the option to change the FOV in the config.

I never had a problem with the FOV, it scales accordingly, it's also confirmed on windescreengamingforum here:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14900
Example pic (a 3 monitor setup )

The controlls were great for me, no different than other third person games. I've noticed that this sometimes is very dependant on which computer/setup you're running on.. for example Precursors is pretty much unplayable (i've tried everything) on my main PC, worst controlls ever, on my laptop it's a _lot_ better, very playable.
For DS you have to fix the vsync, there are different solutions to it depending on if you have ATI or Nvidia, if you don't do anything about it the controlls are terrible.. i think you need to edit the .txt (ini) file sometimes it doesnt help to just change it in-game.. Here's a quote i found doing a quick search:
"Nvidia:
Turn V-Sync on in control panel.
Turn V-Sync off ingame.
Ati ( my 4850 ):
Turn V-Sync off in control panel.
Turn V-Sync off ingame.
I had to edit the settings.txt file in Vista x64 to get it to take though."
you might also have to edit the mouse sensitivity settings there i believe... it was a long time since i played / tweaked this, but i remember that i couldnt stand playing it for more than 1 minute "untweaked"..

I don't think he means that necessarily, I thing he refers to the very low FOV in general in the game (it can scale properly and still have a low FOV) which made the game feel like it's zoomed.
