I thought Blackwater didn't fit the story well. The car(s) and the city setting to me just didn't mesh well with what you had already been through. It would've been great if they had kept the whole thing in Mexico in my opinion. The whole setting there, all of it, it was just awesome. I see some DLC continuing the story off the ending, but I don't see how since the west was being tamed at that point. Maybe they'll continue by setting it in Mexico since that could obviously work. Of course they could always do it by traveling backwards and seeing John in his younger days when he was a hoodlum which would fit better with the GTA/R* way of doing things.

I felt like they should've flipped flopped the story back and forth between past and present tense, a'la Pulp Fiction, to give you a better sense of the backstory and to develop what was going on between John and the old gang. There's a lot more they could've done with the story but i'm sure they wanted to leave it open enough so that they could push some DLC out the door. It was great, i'm not complaining just saying that it could've had a lot more depth.

@killabyte
I actually thought Blackwater fit very well. The game is set in 1911 I believe
 Spoiler:

the "old west" was practically done for. John and his old gang buddies were sort of the leftovers of the west.
I'm pretty sure Dutch says something in that vein at some point.
That's why Blackwater fit so well. Blackwater was the "new west", cars, overall more sophisticated.
The whole part of the game that plays in the north gave me the feeling that John and the others were mere relics of a time gone by.

@zipfero:
While true (and I feel they put most their efforts into Mexico) if I ever hear John say "Hola! Bueno! Eeh, hola!" again I'm gonna put that guy in front of a moving train Very Happy

Hehe I got tired of hearing that too reklis. I got the story line and them being relics and the last remnants, etc. The story was cool it's just that for me, when I think wild west I think of candles and lanterns and no electricity - certainly no cars. Like all the cities would be like Armadillo and probably during that time period most were. Blackwater just kind of pulled me out of that frame of mind but again, it was part of the story and helped get the point across. I just like it old school I guess. I've not watched many westerns but what I have seen never involved big cities or "motor" carriages. Guess that's why I view it the way I do in my minds' eye. The Mexico area just really hit the nail on the head tho. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The bright sun and the sounds - I could almost feel the heat radiating off the bright white sandy dirt.

For whatever episodic DLC they end up releasing I hope they go backwards so things are a bit "rougher".

So I finally went out and bought this today. Tried playing, notice the camera is 'normal' instead of inverted on both axis, like it is in every game. No biggie, I select invert in options... and wtf, y-axis is inverted, but x is still normal.
I check again, and again.. then decide to read on some forums wether I'm retarded or not, but nope, it's really not there.

I returned it after trying for an hour, missing every single thing in existence, and not wanting to use the casual aiming option. Not been so annoyed by a game in a long while, and only because of a simple option they could've added so easily (hey, they got y-axis, how hard could it've been..).

Was actually really looking forward to it, and it seemed nice apart from the controls Sad

I can say that you definitely picked the correct username. Why the fuck would you want to push left to go right and vice-versa? That's just plain idiotic!

Did I insult your mother? You could ask normally.

When playing first person, I use normal controls, since you actually watch in those directions yourself. When in third person, like this game, I feel as if you control the camera behind the character, not the char itself, hence, the inverted controls. If you push the camera to the left, your view pans to the right.

I actually found quite a few threads about this when googling, so I can safely say I'm not alone in this.

I sort of doubt that.
Just guessing that if an alternate ending would exist somebody would have recorded it and uploaded it to youtube but my youtube search came up empty.

I'm satisfied with the ending as it is. It closes the story and leaves no cliffhanger for a sequel (unlike many other games).

I added spoiler tags as a precaution, but the game was released some time ago, the ending has been discussed a lot and someone who hasn't played it yet (more then one month after release) should stay away from such threads anyway. You should expect people to talk about the ending.

@Reklis: see GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas, Gay Tony, Lost and Damned for happy endings. GTA4 had some sacrifices, but didn't "completely fuck over" Niko.
RDR is the exception, not the rule.

GTA3 wasn't really a happy ending, neither was VC or SA. Can't remember the ending to Lost and the Damned but I sort of have to agree that Gay Tony was sort of happy.

Didn't GTA3 end with the nameless hero defeating his evil ex-girlfriend, VC with Tommy owning the city and SA with a loud triumph over Tenpenny? Sure, there were complications, but the last Gay Tony mission also had the club attacked by a mob army.
The important part is that the hero triumphed over his enemies, while in RDR he didn't.

But then again in RDR it wasn't his intention to triumph over his enemies. He wanted to be left alone, live in peace and forget his past because he knew he couldn't be fully redeemed of it.
And he wasn't able to achieve any of it.

btw.
(all of this is "iIrc"):
GTA3 ended with the protagonist getting the girl, then (from the sound of it) shooting her because she was annoying.
VC ended with Tommy owning the city yes, but he was all alone with nobody at his side.
Can't remember SA anymore but I'm pretty sure there was a really big grain of salt in it as well.

Red Dead Redemption Accrued 14M Hours Of Playtime, 132M Murders In Two Weeks

Rockstar San Diego's hit cowboy game Red Dead Redemption accrued about 17 million hours of worldwide playtime in the first two weeks of its global availability, during which time players committed nearly 132 million murders, according to newly-released data gathered by GameSpy's ATLUS stat-tracking service.

That puts the overall murder frequency within the game at 9.42 per hour on average, or one approximately every six minutes. Murder is by far the most common crime among those whose stats were released by GameSpy; by comparison, there were only 1.9 million instances of horse theft occurred over the same period, 862,000 robberies, and 809,000 acts of arson.

It is not clear how many hours the average player spent in Red Dead Redemption during that time. Around two weeks after launch, Rockstar owner Take-Two said the game shipped 5 million units worldwide, and this week NPD reported the game sold 1.5 million units in the United States this May. The game has seen similar chart-topping success in several other regions.

Roughly estimating total worldwide consumer purchases to be roughly 3.5 million would put average playtime at nearly five hours per player in the first two weeks.

GameSpy has released a detailed infographic highlighting numerous other bits of trivia about aggregate player activity so far, including revelations that $3.33 billion has been spent within the world, the average resident of the fictional New Austin drinks 8.6 liters of alcohol per year, 28 percent of Read Dead protagonists have spent 28 percent of their in-game lives in jail, and 5.8 million hats have been shot off in duels.

Some interesting statistics. Razz
