you could have reserved a pay monthly, the option was there.
you say it was there, does that mean it is no longer available?
EDIT: i just rang them, they said it was not possible to preorder and i'll have to ring on the 24th.. Ohh well i'm sure they wont sell out that quick lol
The 32gb at £45 per month, which Im currently on, the handset is £129. So if its £260 to pay off my old contract using the early upgrade amnesty and £129 for the new handset, I need to sell my 3GS for at least £389 ideally! On a £60 per month contract, the handset is just £29!
Managed to get through to O2 via a 0844 number instead of waiting for hours like the rest, 10 minutes and my iphone is on its way for delivery tommorow Yeah Baby
seems like it's pretty much effecting everyone - including me. When I hold it in my hand, or against my face, signal drops quality and then drops completely. Really hoping its something to do with the iOS4 and not hardware...
My bars drop, as does my call quality, and then finally my call. Doesn't mean that it isn't the iOS4 poorly interpretting something like the changing of bands, or a reduction in signal and then doing it... we'll have to wait and see. As american's all over the place get this bad boy today, Apple will have to come out and say something...
Im not due to get my iphone from apple until July 14th so i might just cancel it for the time being. Hopefully the signal issues will be solved by then :s

I'm for the 14th as well. I had to order it from UK because I can't find it here cheap and official. But...do you really think apple will ship July 14th iphones with the bug? I don't think so. Maybe postpone the order until they fix it.

Today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.
Well, the 4 iphone 4's I preordered for my bosses here at work just got canceled, the president of the company comes up to me today "Jake, I've been reading bad things about the iphone 4 reception today, I want you to get me a blackberry bold 9700 instead...." , and so I did....
I however, will be keeping mine, I have a hard case around the whole body so the antenna issue is not affecting me. Still can't believe apple would let something like this slide.... and the comments that Steve Jobs made about this issue yesterday were fucking unbelievable!
"just dont hold it that way"
Really Steve? REALLY? JUST DON'T HOLD IT THAT WAY?

MacRumors forum user samcraig emailed Steve Jobs about the low signal issue while holding the new iPhone 4 in a specific way. The potential issue has been generating a lot of discussion. Samcraig emailed Steve Jobs:
Question - What's going to be done about the signal dropping issue. Is it software or hardware?
To which, Jobs replied with a typically short response:
Non issue. Just avoid holding it in that way.
In a followup email, Jobs then expanded with this explanation:
Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.
Steve Jobs has been known to respond to emails and we were able to log into Samcraig's email account to verify the authenticity of the emails, so we believe these are real.
Update: This has been confirmed as an official statement from Apple.
seems that putting a rubber protection on it solves the issue. not a problem for me, i'm buying the iphone 4 condom aswell, can't risk dropping and breaking it at that price
Apple had this nice video of the iphone 4 where they display how the new iphone is build and that the whole metal surrounding would act as an antenna... Liars?
Luckily i don't seem to be able to reproduce the same drop in signal, if i completely wrap my hands around the outer metal bevel i get a drop of one bar only occasionally, nothing while holding in my right hand making a call. no bad screen problems either thank god.
