I have been using a 2,5" WD passport external HDD for some time now, all of a sudden transferirng data isn't ass smooth anymore. It's like the data is being transferred in burst. Or is that just a problem with the visual representation in Win 7? This did not happen previously, the time indication is completely screwed up now since speeds vary from 143MB/s to 2MB/s. It should be a constant 30-40MB from previous experience.
There's also the problem with accessing the system HDD while files are being trasnferred. The data is not on the system disk. About 2-3 weeks ago accessing the system HDD however started to interfere with teh USB data transfer. At times, like opening IE for example, the transfer just stops for a few secs. Loading up apps also takes a few secs. It's like the disks, the system disks and the disk from which the data is transferred, are accessed sequentially. How can this happen while the USB HDD is taking the data from a seperate disk? Is it something with teh mobo?
And last but not least, not a problem really. The HDD was previously formatted as HFS+, data was transferred without pause. Now it's NTFS, whenever a file is done the transfer stops for 10 secs or so. Is this an NTFS limitation?
I can't figure this one out, there seems to be no logic behind the problem. Transferring files from USB HDD to the system disk works fine btw, I get a constant 35MB/s. Strange :/
