Having said that, Priestly loves to troll.

I doubt he'd throw out info like that so soon with no other background info if it were actually true.

Yes they are serious. And there are rumors that this time, DA2 is developed mainly for the 360 and not PC.

I'm not defending Bioware, but the Gothic series was built on an 'only one playlable guy' concept and it was pretty good story-wise. So let's have just a little faith, that DA2 will turn out not so shitty Razz

or that they can't afford (ahem) to develop as many different STARTING stories and want to limit/control where you can go from the start. As if DAO wasnt already a huge downgrade, choices-wise, in comparison to their BG series.

But ME2 is so much better than ME1, as it polished off most of routine and boring staff. Crucify me, but I liked ME2 much more than DA1

Combat in DA1 was crap, too much enemies made it quite tedious to play tactically, but lowering difficulty made it play like a loot-less Diablo - which lead to boredom.
As I doubt BioWare would lower enemies amount and combat frequency, I hope they would go ME2 route. ME2 made ME combat feel more like a shooter, so it would be great if DA2 combat would became an enjoyable slasher. Much better than neither fish nor fowl that DA1 combat was Smile

EDIT: fixed DE --> DA. thx, proekaan Smile

Oh f*ck. That's it....I'm only buying indie games from now on. :/
Why must they dumb down everything just to appease the mainstream audience?

Still,I'll wait for previews to see what has really been changed. I'm not saying rpg's with one playable character is bad,but I do prefer to make my own guy and choose a race I see fit.

@ WhiteBarbarian

DE1,DE2? it's DA(unless you meant Deus Ex. Wink). Very Happy

But I disagree on that point, the combat in DAO was fine and I enjoyed it immensly. Felt like the good old days. Smile

Yeah lets make another boring slasher and another boring shooter. Bioware goes generic games. As if we don't have enough of them already..

Go play Gears of Bore and God of Whore if you want those games so much?

I'm sure that BioWare will do a great job with DA 2 and that it will probably be even better then DA: Origins. I mean, when ME 2 was announced everyone was flaming, yelling and bitching and then it turned out that the game is a masterpiece.

I don't mind the ME2 style at all, it works very well with that series. I just don't know why they're suddenly changing everything that DA was with DA2. THis was supposed to be an new old-school RPG type. It's a complete overhaul from the sounds of it, much different from what changed between ME1 and ME2. I'm not going to rage-quit the series like those fanboy losers on their forum, but it just seems a very puzzling decision right now.

@proekaan:
For me it didn't feel like the good old days, than comparing to Baldur's Gate. For me it was like BioWare tried to please old school camp, but combat turned out not epic enough for the mainstream audience, so they multiplied the amount of enemies during combat encounters.

@djaoni:
Nope, I don't like Gears of War and haven't played God of War - no consoles here. And I don't want another slasher / shooter but at the same time I don't want the same broken for my taste DA1 combat. So of these two evils, I would prefer a slasher. Combat would still be imperfect but more enjoyable as battles could end much faster Very Happy

So there's a bit more info available here and it seems like we will take on the role of Hawke, a penniless refugee who rises to power to become the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age.

Also this "Infusing the universe with more action, a new, more responsive combat system"
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
EA has brought down Bioware.

If a developer comes forth and says this, then I am certain that DA2 will be a failure. But for now I would just say it's because of what has been revealed to us, with the new action-filled combat system etc, that this rumor is circulating.
But I will keep my hopes high, and pray that Bioware manages to be succesfull.

I agree partially. Or even mostly.

But the thing with the Dragon Age IP is that BioWare declared it as a darn SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR of Baldur's Gate. So BG fans (myself included) were and still ARE expecting BioWare to actually DELIVER.

For me, they didn't deliver THAT much with DA(1), despite the game being a very good one. Didn't felt it like the named "successor", but still was enjoyable and even then some. And now, they seem to be straying even more from what some RPG BioWare fans are expecting. And that's a deep, full of choices, characters and complexity RPG game.

Despite of what some people read in that news, all I can read is: simplified stuff, cinematic and more linear experience, to fit a trend forced in by consoles. Ofc that is NOT necessarily a bad thing (see Mass Effect 2) but for those Baldur's Gate fans is all going either downfall or on a separate path. Probably and hopefully it's the latter.

Oh man, it's about time Starcraft2 gets released so they finally can see that good games are able to selling massivley on the PC too. I just don't get it why they go in this direction. DA sold very well on all 3 systems and I think even better on the PC than on the others. Maybe it still wasn't enough for the greedy fucks in the background.

Yeah, I think there are too many rumors and assumptions going around, since people expect the worst as soon as they see a word "action" somewhere in the descriptions for games like this. I wouldn't start crying a river just yet...

As for combat. They might very well move away from the classical RPG combat system they had in DAO, but we can't really say that it's not for the better until we see it.

Still, I liked the idea of having a typical hardcore RPG in DA and a more streamlined action RPG in ME. But as long as character interactions and story remain at least as deep as they were in DAO, I can live through a lot of changes. The game was much bigger than ME and I'd like it to remain that way.

I see your point and agree.
Yet it's always nice to come with certain verdicts at announcements Wink
I believe Bioware are capable of creating a masterpiece, not as epic as BG as Blackeyedboy mentions, but they have so much potential.

This. Come on guys, we've only just had an ANNOUNCEMENT! Let's wait for some game info first, yeah? It's been less than a year since the release of the magnificently successful Dragon Age, so I don't think we're going to see that much of a dumbing down experience. Let's just give Bio the benefit of the doubt, for now at least. If the game turns up looking like the same bastardisation that ME2 was to ME1... THEN we can rage Very Happy

ME2 is a great game but I expected it to at least resemble a RPG in some way and not just be a shooter with health bars and dialog.

It would be nice if we had more quality RPGs like were on the sega gen and SNes.Titles like might & magic and the ultima series.Seems like consoles cater more to the kid oriented anime type RPG's these days and that's sad.God would it be nice to see a a true Shadowrun RPG sequel to both those consoles to.

That's probably just bullshit coming from some of us raging PC folks. The game was announced today and already there's a shitstorm brewing. If anything, they're gonna try and touch up the controls on the consoles cause that was the main concern with those, but I doubt they'll piss off the audience who praised the game to what it is.

I disagree. BioWare is the blizzard of RPGs, but Black Isles is the Relic of RPGs. This BioWare of new, well, let's just say it dumbs things down. IMHO, they didn't have a deep RPG mechanic since nwn1, and a decent story since Kotor, and even that was cheese.

But, ofc, that's just my taste. But I can say this: the more modern literature I read, the less I liked BioWare, the more I liked Black Isles games.
