Starcraft II EU Beta is UP!
Pitzzu wrote: | I wasn't really following this whole 'realID' thing from the beginning (I know that in the mean time it became optional) but can someone please explain to me how exactly could blizzard enforce people to put in their real personal information? how can they know that I'm not really a Japanese Eskimo living in Africa named 'Horse Lover' working in the porn industry??? obviously I'm exaggerating but cant people fake an ID? :? :? |
Yeah sure you could definitely create a Battle.net account with fake info, but there's some issues with that.
1) No credit card payment for WoW, as the name on the card needs to match the name on the account as far as I know... also needed for character transfers and shit I think... you'd be limited to using gametime cards. (not an issue for a lot of people who are already using only gametime cards)
but more importantly...
2) If your account gets taken over somehow (ie hacked) you are in serious trouble as it would be hard to prove you're the owner by sending a picture of your passport or something if the names don't match.
so yeah while it's possible to take that route, it's risky and it just shouldn't be necessary to go that far (and it isn't now, thank god)

Battle.net, of course. |
I think they said there won't be any ordinary copy protection on SC2, only the online check thing but not 100% sure, might be confusing this game with something else.

I need a practice partner, anybody up for some games? got one more placement match left so can't really tell what league i am in, but I'm 3-1 atm and if i get 4-1 i should get into gold/ possibly platinum depending on the quality of the players that i played during placement.
But yeah, just need someone to practice with so we can give each other constructive criticism and improve our game. I play protoss, your race doesn't matter but i seriously need training against terran.

1) No they dont need to match. Im using a credit card that doesnt match for 4 years now.
2) If you get hacked you just use your secret question and get back the account. Also tested.

Mech still feels so overpowered, i am having serious problems as protoss vs terran atm. What good strategy have you found working against terran these days?
Right now i'm thinking of going with the white-ra voidray strat. go fast 1 voidray and fake him into build lots of AA since it's early game and at the same time get 4gate. Beauty of it is that you force him into building marines which you can counter easily with zealots on charge. Obviously he might change to marauders once he realises the tactic but I should be ahead in economy since he has to turtle abit to go MMM.
Seems like a solid tactic, anybody tried anything similar?
The point is to get terran out of the normal MMM routine + tanks and so on and make them panic. Instead of letting the game take its course i'd rather want to force his alternatives by showing up with a voidray.
Anyone care to comment? I play in gold atm and i've lost too many games thanks to fucking terran.

I totally agree with that.
I also have trouble fighting mech straight up as zerg and protoss. It's pretty much the one opposing force that gives me the most trouble in SC2 and I'm pretty sure it really is overpowered due to the siege tank's built-in super anti-overkill micro. Just makes them so damn powerful without the player having to do anything special.
I believe the general consensus right now is that the one big weakness of mech is it's mobility so you need to exploit that in any way possible, which is unfortunately pretty hard unless you have like 120+ apm (which I don't)
You gotta distract him with drops and small void ray attacks whenever possible to force him to move around and punish him for camping in front with his tanks.
If there's only very few tanks involved and no anti air worth mentioning you could try getting maybe 2 or 3 phoenixes to pick up tanks and help your ground army in a fight but that's pretty risky.
I wonder if getting 2 or 3 carriers would be a good idea if you happened to get a fleet beacon for void ray speed and he didn't switch to heavy anti air like mass vikings... brood lords are pretty common against mech I believe so carriers would make sense too if you don't have to get the fleet beacon especially for them.
Sure, you could also just get more void rays at that point but I think unless there's vikings involved, carriers would be superior against a mech ground army with marines as anti air.

my account was hacked (somehow, no idea how) during the time i wasnt playing last year. This year i wanted to restart playing and it wasnt tied to my bnet account, little email and done. Then i noticed it had parental lock on (!) with an email not belonging to me. 2 emails to support (second i had to use a little bit harsher tone) and it got removed and i got my account back. Didnt had to use my name or any copy of any passport etc to get it back.

hmm
when I tried to get an account back a while ago they wanted either the key used to register the game (which I didn't know anymore) or a scan of some ID to prove I'm the owner so that was the only way then. I guess it depends on the situation.

Quote: | After a week of angry online protests Blizzard Entertainment has scrapped its controversial plan to force gamers to use their real names when posting on its official forums.
Blizzard's decision means users of the US company's popular forums will continue to post anonymously.
"I'd like to take some time to speak with all of you regarding our desire to make the Blizzard forums a better place for players to discuss our games," CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime said in a post on Blizzard's forum.
"We've been constantly monitoring the feedback you've given us, as well as internally discussing your concerns about the use of real names on our forums. As a result of those discussions, we've decided at this time that real names will not be required for posting on official Blizzard forums."
Blizzard planned to force players to use their Real ID – the real name associated with their Battle.net master account – when posting. Perhaps inevitably, the decision was met with a storm of protest when it was announced this week.
A Blizzard employee going by the handle Bashiok revealed his real name, Micah Whipple, on the forums in the course of the debate. WoW Riot responded by quickly finding and publishing Whipple's address, phone number, age, the names of his family, his Facebook page and lists of his favourite music and movies, to illustrate the privacy and identity theft issues raised by Blizzard's decision.
"It's important to note that we still remain committed to improving our forums," Morhaime continued. "Our efforts are driven 100 per cent by the desire to find ways to make our community areas more welcoming for players and encourage more constructive conversations about our games. We will still move forward with new forum features such as the ability to rate posts up or down, post highlighting based on rating, improved search functionality, and more.
"However, when we launch the new StarCraft II forums that include these new features, you will be posting by your StarCraft II Battle.net character name + character code, not your real name. The upgraded World of Warcraft forums with these new features will launch close to the release of Cataclysm, and also will not require your real name."
While critics will view the reversal as a victory, Morhaime was keen to remind gamers that Blizzard still intends to employ Real ID within its games and that the system will continue to evolve.
"I want to make sure it's clear that our plans for the forums are completely separate from our plans for the optional in-game Real ID system now live with World of Warcraft and launching soon with StarCraft II. We believe that the powerful communications functionality enabled by Real ID, such as cross-game and cross-realm chat, make Battle.net a great place for players to stay connected to real-life friends and family while playing Blizzard games. And of course, you'll still be able to keep your relationships at the anonymous, character level if you so choose when you communicate with other players in game. Over time, we will continue to evolve Real ID on Battle.net to add new and exciting functionality within our games for players who decide to use the feature.
"In closing, I want to point out that our connection with our community has always been and will always be extremely important to us. We strongly believe that Every Voice Matters, and we feel fortunate to have a community that cares so passionately about our games. We will always appreciate the feedback and support of our players, which has been a key to Blizzard's success from the beginning." |

So scene wise there will just be a 1:1 ISO from DORKISO or something like that, to play offline, campaign ... and for multi people will need to buy the game right?

Always nice to see sanctimonious anti-piracy comments, on a piracy forum.
@Mussolinka
I'm sure the guys from cs.rin.ru will make a server emulator, as usual., especially with the crazy pricing model in their region we read about earlier this year.

Leo I'm sure something will come out, but it will result in hundreds of free run servers, I'm hoping for something unified.
