The "latest" M33 (which is pretty much dead now, since D_A stopped updating) is 5.00 M33-6. I'm running it and have no problems, though later games need to be patched in order to work. As for updating, you can go directly to 5.00 M33 (then the -6 update) directly from 3.90 M33 =)
VGA will be along shortly with advice on GEN and I must say, his zealotry has almost convinced me to switch to GEN-D3 + 5.50 Prometheus. Prometheus is an add-on CFW for GEN-D3 which basically auto-patches any games that require FW above the base 5.50 that GEN operates on, ie; if Persona requires 6.20, Prometheus automatically patches it without the user needing to do anything. From what I can find out, there's ZERO drawbacks to installing Prometheus onto GEN, so it's a win/win situ.
I have the files on my desktop, ready to go, I'm just waiting for my "Care?" meter to fill a little

Well if you've got an old supply of emulators, you'll need to bin them if you switch to GEN from M33. You'll need to acquire the very latest versions of each one so that they run on 5.xx firmwares without the old requirement of 1.50. Other than that, GEN is pretty much the same as M33 - just updated more frequently. D_A stopped at 5.00, which screwed everything up for users wanting to play new games ... GEN carried on up to 5.50, and now Prometheus and PSNLover allow you to play any new game AND still access the PSN.
Oh and you're welcome =)

Prometheus is the way to go. GEN is dead. I just patched my GEN-D3 to Prometheus. All new games using up to 6.20 FW work great.

That's the "no UMD" error. Just press the HOME button while in the XMB (or boot into recovery) and set "No UMD Mode: Sony NP" If the Sony one doesn't work, try the M33 No-UMD option ... and if it STILL doesn't work, then you're probably on a FW too low for the game, so you'll need to patch or update to GEN-D3+Prometheus.

Hehe, some saves from older firmware show up as corrupted from D3 onward. I don't know if it's fixed. It happened to me,too, with 2 games, FF Anniversary and one other.
I don't know if its fixed, google for "gen corrupt save"

Happened to me with two saves. DraculaX and patchwork heroes.
On draculax I´ve put up a ton of time on the sotn part. It´s ok though, played it thru and it´s quite easy to lock up that game, but still a bit anoying.
I´m thinking about just putting psx sotn on it instead. Then I get original voices as well. Don´t know what they were thinking when they changed that? HAVE AT YOU!

PSP1003 - TA81. Installed 5.50 GEN-D3, installed 5.50 Prometheus v5, patched it with Prometheus MOD-1. So far so good, all saves work - I was especially worried about Dracula X, FF Dissidia, FF Crisis Core and Phantasy Star Portable... but they all work, thankfully. PSP-PSX games still work as before, so I don't think I'll need to reinstall the 5.50 GEN-D3 version of POPSLoader. Even my 5.00 custom FF-Dissidia theme worked and I didn't need to reinstall CWCheat either, it was automatically running. Same goes for RemoteJoyLite v0.19 -- working perfectly.
All in all, I think this was the easiest CFW install yet. No issues whatsoever, no app compatibility problems and everything working right out of the box ... so to speak

I havn't heard of Persona3 working on any firmware without a patch regardless of the UMD settings and everything like that. Think the 6.01 games like that are still patch required.

That's the whole point of Prometheus, bud; it's specifically FOR games that require 6.20.

No biggie, just installed ISO-Tool 1.51 and manually patched the eboot.bin. Seems kinda redundant having Prometheus now though, since using the "save fix" prevents Prometheus from actually WORKING. Pfffft... I said it from the start; Team GEN are a bunch of fucking idiots.. their software is shite beyond words. How in the world can you break save games from previous versions and NOT notice it before releasing the firmware?
Blegh.
