Bottom line is; the game was great fun (with friends) up until that goddamn level with the mega performance drop, the insane amount of parasites, and the patently bullshit damage they do - despite MULTIPLE healing attempts.

What difficulty are you playing on? Cause I know that Faith fully cures an infestation with one beacon on Hard.

Normal and my mate played AS Faith for healing. Still didn't work. The health drop was more than the beacon could restore.

Have you tried having the medic use the heal gun? Also, the shield can mitigate most of the parasite damage.

Nah, we didn't have the gun on that mission. Given how many aliens were spawning, we thought it would be better to pack firepower.

The medic gun is much more effective at curing infestations.
Also, extra ammo is a necessity, why aren't you using it? Just have a special weapons guy grab an autogun and an ammo pack.

We ARE using extra ammo, we're just not sticking extra ammo packs on EVERYONE. If that was the case, you might as well remove classes right now - because the way you're making it sound is that everyone should automatically play as, and be equipped as, Medic/Ammo Dispensers©

On the mission you're talking about I found it VERY helpful to bring 2 ammo packs.

Find? Huh. It's advertised on the Steam page.
"Tile-based map generation tool"

And where exactly is it hidden?

Well it sure as hell isn't in plain sight. The Steam site says it has one, but to even find the commands you have to go to the AS wiki and look for the articles there. So a "bit hidden" is entirely accurate.

It's kinda pointless anyways. The example tiles you get can't be used for much, and to make more tiles you have to make them yourself in Hammer. And the, why not just make the whole map in Hammer?

Wow, I hadn't thought about this game in ages. I really liked it when it came out. Might have to check it out again if I can remember lol.
