It has starforce alright, judging from forum screens, that's confirmed. I doubt the game can be downloaded therefore.

So you can tell what protection a game has from forums now?

Amazing.

We'll see which protection it has soon. Speculation accomplishes nought.

exactly. if its downloadable, that version has no SF. even if it does have some form of SF like some demos, it wont have anything to do with having a cd in your drive, hence easily cracked.
this aint speculation, its true.

Still - I'm buying mine as you get a map and that special feeling of having contributed something to the multi-million dollar industry.

Or it might just be that I can no longer cancel my order Very Happy

The review is only intended for one section of the gaming community however and it's probably not reliable in terms of details - but rather the 'feeling' it generates amongst those gamers.

There is some stuff I'm reading on the forums though that is disappointing. No Wolfpack tactics being one. You won't be working with Allies to bring down convoys for example - it's solo work all the way and that to me is a letdown as it kinda degrades from the world war atmosphere. I don't like this notion you are the only people out there fighting against 'evil' Wink

I postively can't wait though... the videos, the reviews, the fact that even if it's just an updated version of SHII I'll be satisfied...

You can play in wolfpack groups in multiplayer coop.

True, but not only do I not know how effective the online mode is - but I play these things offline mostly and in the singleplayer campaign it will still detract from the war effort.

Not a big deal, but hopefully something they address in an expansion or patch.

I love how many people spread rumors of starforce on both BIA and Silent hunter 3 yet BIA just came out and its safedisc4, I bet thats the case with Silent Hunter 3 as well since it seems UBI likes safedisc4 for retail releases.

It's not that UBI likes safedisc4 more then sf3 for retail releases. It not that simple as most people think; some publishers have contracts with companys that make protections, sf3 is not the most user (read: buyer) friendly protection there is and I find Ubisoft very user (read: buyer) friendly and as for as I know safedisk4 never disables a bought copy of a game which sf3 sometimes does.

Got my preordered german versions today (I'm a reseller) and it's SF protected!
There was a little problem with the authorisation come customers told me, because all german versions has the same dvd key and the Ubisoft hotline told me that's not relevant to online play, the key is just recognized by the SF protection and nothing else.

Dunno if it have been posted here..:

SAN FRANCISCO – March 15, 2005 – Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that the WWII submarine simulation, Silent Hunter® III, on DVD for Windows, has surfaced today in stores nationwide at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $39.99. The game is rated “T” (Teen) for Mild Violence.

Submarine fans love to immerse themselves in the historical and compelling world of authentic WWII U-boat battles via books, movies and television programs. Silent Hunter III will blow this passive submarine experience out of the water with its all-new 3D engine, Dynamic Campaign system, detailed U-boat models and immersive battles thrusting players into the depths of intense stealth action.

"We’re really excited to finally let players man the torpedoes and completely immerse themselves in Silent Hunter III,” said Florin Boitor, producer, Ubisoft’s Romanian studio. "The team is very proud of the early feedback within the community and the press. We feel we’ve succeeded in creating an all-new U-boat experience that combines movie-like graphics and a realistic atmosphere, while making it challenging to both series fans and players new to naval simulations.”

The latest title in the Silent Hunter franchise will add new dimensions to the simulation experience, where players will assume the role of U-boat commander, become immersed in a dynamic ocean environment and experience the intensity of WWII submarine warfare. The a deep and rewarding Dynamic Campaign mode will challenge players to work with their crew to hone their submarine tactics as they stalk, outmaneuver, and embark on realistic naval missions, such as hunting merchant ships and sinking enemy tonnage.

The game features an event camera for focusing on the most crucial moments of battle, such as following your torpedo as it smashes into the hull of an Allied destroyer. In addition, the online feature allows up to four players to cooperatively take on AI opponents or eight players via LAN. Whether stalking convoys or hiding from depth charges, players will experience the game as their own personal war story.

Silent Hunter Background:
The critically acclaimed Silent Hunter series recreates the ferocious battles between the German U-boats and the Allied naval forces during WWII to gain domination over the oceans. Its impressive list of features, beautiful 3D graphics and unrivaled gameplay assure that this installment of the Silent Hunter series will reinvent underwater simulations.

Oh that's fun huh? Beautiful. It'll be interesting to see exactly what they've done to it when I get my hands on a copy.

I did some hunting up here in Canada-land EB's are March 17th, Walmart's depending on the city size 17th or 18th or upto two weeks from now. Futureshop and Bestbuy same as Walmart.

Most places in Southern Ontario will get theirs on the 17th however.
