|

I'm going to buy a new monitor, 21,5'' or 22'', but there is so much choice. I spoke someone and he said Ilyama has the best monitors. Are there some monitors you guys recommend me? (Price between €100,- and €170,-)

Iiyama don't have the "best" monitors. Just like any other manufacturer they have good models, bad models, and scam models where review samples have better panels than the ones for sale.
Since it's different every month which monitors are available and which ones are good, you really just gotta have a look at some monitors at your favourite shop (or www.tweakers.net/pricewatch ) and then look up some reviews. Digital Versus is a good resource to start with. Things you want to look at are input lag (should be 1 frame or less) and colours. Colours can be fixed with colour profiles to a certain degree, but they can't completely fix them.
I would recommend some, but all the monitors I looked at when I bought mine aren't available anymore
A little tip: Stay away from monitors with Philips panels; some manufacturers don't state this explicitly. LG does, all monitors with Philips panels have a -PF suffix. Philips panels are typically quite a bit slower and less accurate with colours than others. Best panels to get are AUO (AU Optronics), Samsung trails a little behind them.

Thanks m8, that is some really good advice.
I didn't knew about the panels.

No problem
You might also want to check out the usual hardware sites (tweakers, anand, etc.) to see if any have done a monitor roundup recently. Digital Versus should have one that's fairly recent, or a best buy guide, they always have one of the two up

Okey, I think it is going to be a 22'' monitor for sure with 1680x1050 reso. 1920x1080 reso is just too small for me, if you know what I mean.
Now I have to look what type of 22'' monitor.

Yeah, ignore the speakers. It's a pretty decent monitor besides that though, just check the reviews on various sites, including Digital Versus. Good input lag, excellent colours, decent response time

Yes I'll hope it too. I really like that the monitor can be changed in height. I am 1.96M so, good thing
I had the last one at Salland Automatisering, so there was a 10 Euro discount on it, compared to the other stores
Strange thing is, that you don't need an account there, so I ordered and payed the monitor, but now I can't see any order status -.-
Also I haven't got a confirmation e-mail, only that I payed via Ideal, but not from Salland itself.

Might be because it's sunday
Never ordered anything from them, but I assume they'll send you emails to confirm the order and its shipment like any other shop, supposedly they're one of the better shops

Dynamic contrast values like 10.000 to 20.000 or more recently 100.000 is a bit of marketing though I don't remember how it was calculated but it kept changing or alternating or some such to give such deep contrast values where the static value would be something like 3000 to 5000 or something.
(I use a Samsung Syncmaster 226CW which is basically the BW model with a Samsung panel without other replacements which the BW had a few of and better color though some still have a light red tint, was sort of replaced a while back by the T220/T240 - 22" and 24" that is - and HD models and then some other but it's pretty good if a bit ugly, heh, as for the above it has a value of 1000 but 3000 with dynamic.)
Response time is also sometimes a bit overclocked so it might be three or such (As with my monitor, or it might have been five.) but is "heated" up a bit via electric signals to operate faster which gets it printed as 2 or 1 though the differences (Even from 8 or so.) is very minor and difficult to notice.
Color balance, brightness and proper calibration is more important as is the panel of course of which there are numerous types with different weaknesses and strengths, extras might also be noteworthy like what connectivity it allows.
(DSub or analogue is pretty much out but DVI and HDMI should be standard and some allow both those and display port although there isn't that much of a difference depending on which standards are supported, HDMI and Display Port are still being updated, think it's at 1.4 for HDMI though 1.3/1.3a/b/c is still used frequently, unsure about Display Port at the moment but one is bound to win and replace DVI and it's subformats like DVI-D and others which can also be somewhat confusing although it's pretty common by now with high quality GPU's, monitors and the actual cable of course though don't believe that talk about extra gold or shielding too much, it helps but won't make any huge differences as it's a digital signal, or so I've come to understand it.)

Dynamic Contrast is usually bullshit. That's why you need to check reviews to see the actual contrast, which in most cases is just average (between 600 and 800).
Higher response times usually mean more input lag as well. Just check Digital Versus, most 5ms TN panels have an input lag of nearly 2 frames or more.
The only time you'll really give a shit about the actual response time is when watching action films with quick shots, but in that case 5ms would be fine

Higher refresh rate doesn't have any effect on a TFT monitor anyway really, and even if you did want to up it, it would be for watching films, for which 75 Hz isn't any useful rate
As for the backlight: fiddle with contrast/brightness a bit

Some connection types like DVI (Depending on GPU and drivers a bit.) has a max refresh rate of 60hz whereas D-Sub or what it's called might support 75 though it doesn't matter much as explained in the above post.
(Static, non-flickering image compared to CRT I think it was.)
