Codemasters have revealed that they're working to a sequel of this game, Dirt and Grid.
(In addition to their ongoing F1 game.)

Dragon Poo 2??
They got some nerve. How many people will fall this time in Codemaster's BS?

A new Operation Flashpoint? That's truly an unespected news, at least for me.
I thought that Dragon Rising was enough to raise the white flag

If people believes this will be the game that beats the ArmA-series and buys the game, I will cry.
I remember all their promised realism in DR.. What happened to it, did they forget to include it or were they just waiting to release it in a DLC?
No doubt that Operation Flashpoint is dead to me, even though the first one was pure awesomeness. I'll keep on playing ArmA2 for now.

The first one wasn't made by cumasters. All they did was market it.Bis made it and that's why it was great.I remember reading previews about OFP 1 in 1996-97.Couldn't wait for it.It was worth the wait. Now we have moved on to the Arma titles. While they may be buggy at least they are continually supported with updates and have an excellent bug report system with people working on it daily. You really can't get better then that.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River outed
Quote: | The new Operation Flashpoint game will be called OF: Red River, CVG has discovered.
According to the online CV of a Codemasters artist, the title will be released in 2011 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
No other details about the game are revealed, but it's almost certain to be a strategic FPS like predecessor Dragon Rising.
That title got a decent critical reception on its release back in October, 2009 - and won the admiration of PC Zone.
Dragon Rising was also a commercial success for Codemasters, reaching the Top Five of the UK All Formats chart. |

No worries, mistake won't be repeated. With DR people were expecting a good game.

Sales tanked (I guess.) and support was halted though some patches and DLC like additions were released (For free even.) though overall it couldn't keep up with competition whether it was multiplayer FPS giants like Call of Duty or singleplayer focus compared to say ArmA in terms of realism and gameplay.
(ArmA might be a bit much for some people though.)
It'll be interesting to see how Codemasters does this time though I'm a bit skeptic.
(Could a decent semi-realistic military themed first person shooter/action game but there's still a lot of competing titles to be challenged both for online play and offline via SP or such.)

False marketing, hyping, silence about true features and exploring people's credulity.
One can sense that it's already happening in their forums. There'll be a lot of people with orgasmic behaviors after the first images and the first trailers in August/September. It's really easy to hype when people has some expectations.

Though I kinda fell for it myself initially the first images from Dragon Rising were sort of traditional Codemaster style promo-CG like or how they envisioned the game to look like as they called it, can't imagine such a approach would work now as well.
(PC only and graphics might be close to that but on consoles the hardware can't manage such detail plus if it's open environments on a larger scale, then again the F1 and Dirt 2, Grid promo were mostly in-game though some images were suspected of being altered a bit.)

The console version will probably have some sales just because this type of game has no competition on that market.
On the PC however...

Operation FlashPoint: Red River is 'tighter, more focused' than Dragon Rising
Quote: | A World First preview of Operation Flashpoint: Red River is contained in the pages of the all-new Official Xbox Magazine - and the publication is impressed with what it's seen.
The title's name was outed yesterday by CVG - but very few further details are known, save an approximate 2011 release date.
However, OXM - which is with some subscribers today and in stores next week in the UK - has seen the game, and believes it's a "tighter", "more focused" games than predecessor Dragon Rising.
"Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was tremendously ambitious, but struggled to deliver," OXM editor Jon Hicks told CVG.
"So we were pleased to see that the sequel is a tighter, more focused game that's nevertheless still striving for a more realistic recreation of warfare."
Dragon Rising got a decent critical reception on its release back in October, 2009 - but some of you had issues with it. |
You all know what it means, right?
...
...Modern Flashpoint 2 is going to kick your ass!

Once and for all they shouldn't be using the name Operation Flashpoint.
It will only attract more hate. BIS community will not forgive.

Linear 5-hour campaign here we come!
Then again, the Dragon Rising campaign was also pretty damn linear. Oh well.
