Anyone have a good recomendation for a new psu?
I was looking at Corsair AX-850 or 750
Any good/bad things to say about them?

I want it to be quiet during loading aswell and not like an airjet like the one i have atm.
Price is allso an important criteria here i would say 150-200 euros approx.
And ofcourse delivers the goods to the max

Absolutely nothing wrong with Corsair (rebranded Seasonic) PSUs. They're amazing power supplies that go above and beyond "delivering the goods" - plus they're ultra quiet too.

Corsair are great. Also, OCZ and Antec. And +1 on modular... It saves so much space in the case!

^^ Agreed completely. The old myths about modular PSUs having energy issues are just that; myths. Modular PSUs are great for cable management ... unless you really DO need every single plug Very Happy

Well... I am sure that some cheap modular PSUs could have issues. But hey, what cheap POS doesn't? Laughing

As far as I know they're both quite silent and efficient, although 750W is still more than any system needs unless you got multiple high-end NVIDIA cards (read: GF100 based) in them

Even the TX650 will be more than enough for a pair of GTX460s or 5870s. If you need more graphics processing power than THAT, then you've got problems Smug

I've been running all my systems for the past 4 years or so off the same CM Real Power 550W. This thing even housed my Pentium EE 955 in combination with an 8800 GTS (G80). Hungriest combination I've had, my current E8400 + HD5870 is much easier on consumption, under load it shoots up to about 300-350W at worst depending on the type of load Razz

I definitely won't ever buy a PSU rated above 650W, waste of money at that point, rather spend that money on a higher quality unit Smile

Oh I know, I was just being conservative Very Happy Considering my VX450 can actually output a peak in the 540+ range, I'll be keeping this for a while longer. When/if I get a pair of 460s, I'll get the Corsair TX650, just to be on the safe side.

Its not a bad idea to get a strong and efficient psu that runs at about 60% max output at full load because its generates a lot less heat and noise. Not only check for power/price but also for efficiency. The Corsair AX-750 is rated 80 PLUS Gold, expensive but a good investment for the future since it has 7 years guarantee. I own a Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro P8 750W and it gets fart warm even after hours playing bfbc2.

I've had my Corsair TX650 for ~2 years and it's an unfailing PSU so far.

I read modular power supplies are less stable than non-modular because flow of current fluctuates at the points of removal. Non-modular are all one piece, thus there is no chance of loss/change of power going thru. I got a OCZ NON-Modular and has been working great!

Nah, it's a myth mate =) The only time any fluctuation could/would happen is when you remove a modular cable whilst the PSU is turned on and pushing power to the connected devices ... but if you're going to connect/disconnect cables THEN? Heh, you deserve to fry your comp due to power fluctuations Very Happy

I read the cables you do not connect on non-modular psu´s act like antennas and receive bad signals from the sun. Only recommended if you use SETI@home.

Corsair VX450 going on just over two years now, not a single flaw to be seen. Still as quiet, as powerful, and as cool (as in; less heat, though it's also very super-cool to own Razz) as it was the day I bought it.

Cooler Master are psus not to be missed out too. I've been using a 600W one for over three years now and it's like ready to keep on for 10 more years.

Most of the coolermaster PSU´s uses some El´cheapo korean ping pong components. The newest are pretty decent tho.

And Gomp, i really suggest getting HX650 or better corsair, im running sig rig on HX650 and the PSU even doesnt get warm or make any odd sounds Smile +7 years warranty, you cant go wrong with corsair, imo best PSU´s in the market with enermax modu series.

Yeah, the cheap-ass models use cheap-ass hardware obviously. I've been running off the same CM PSU for well over 4 years now Wink

Then still, don't go for 850 watts unless you plan on having 2 GTX 480's in there alongside one of Intel's i7 extremes overclocked to 4 GHz whilst running 7 hard drives.

Honestly, unless the above applies to you, you shouldn't even seriously consider the 750W unit, let alone 850W. Have a look at a Seasonic X-650 - widely regarded as one of the best PSUs ever made. It's silent, insanely efficient and isn't over the top on peak wattage - amazing value for its price.

Also check out the hardware post I made. Unless you make terrible choices in your hardware, there's nothing out there that will exceed even 500 watts, and future hardware *typically* uses less power, with the exception of NVIDIA's fuckup with GF100. They made up for that with GF104, and hopefully GF106 will be just as good.

Just my two cents, in the end it's your money, but wasting money is never good tbh :E

The thing is that the prices arnt that diffirent from 650-750 or even 850.
And im not trying to waste money.
Atm i have a hiper psu 530w if im not mistaken. Cant be arsed to go under the desk to check either Razz
But it spews out hot air like a motherfucker, and i hope my new psu wont do that.
Ill consider your choices pwerelds Smile

That's the thing though, the Seasonic I mentioned runs even cooler than the Corsairs and quieter. It stays below 20 dBA until you hit 450W, the Corsairs are already at about 25 at that point - and like I said, you're quite unlikely to ever even hit that load :E

And it's cheaper obviously Smile
