I'm not really impressed by HL2 Substance,... they only increased the FOV (so guns look longer) and added ennemys everywhere, most of them are bugged or die instantanatly (wow typo here) when the map load... because of this it need a computer with lot more rams than normal hl2.

the helicopters are buggy too... sometime the rockets hit them but it don't do anything..... anyway that's better than nothing for those who did finish hl2 but I prefer the original version of these map by far much Smile

I'm still impressed we don't see much good mods coming out since we can do everything you can think of in this engine without any problem...
Even a few single players maps with nothing added but well-done maps would be great! Where are they? Razz

Did you encounter the gunship independence day style laser weapon?

Thats pretty cool. I think valve had already created it but decided to remove it for balance.

Well the first place I encountered it was when you're going through the sewer areas near the start of the game.

One of those osprey gunships was hovering around, but I was safe under a bridge and I had 3 guys with me so I was feeling pretty confident. Anyway, I went out from under the bridge, directly under the gunship, I heard a weird noise looked up and a tiny laser streaked down from the gunship. I ran forward and turned around just in time to see the laser fully power up and vaporise the three guys who were with me. Pretty cool I must say.

Not sure if that the only place it's included, as I havent played much further.

edit:I'll get a screenshot.

Wow! Nice! I haven't played all the levels yet. i just handpicked some from the save menu. I will try to play those that I've missed now.

BTW, In regular Hl2, when you're breaching the government building (state house?) you see some kind of stellar artillery pointing at you that later fires.. Remember that? Maybe It's something else.

I'm having trouble with the DVd release. The first time I played after installing it worked fine, then when I went back to play later the game loaded but everything was frozen. I could move but the other characters where all immobile. Does anyone know what the problem is here? Thanks.

seem like you have the old A.I. Disabled thing... go to console and write "ai_disable 0" ...... but I advise you should take ppatcher and paly through steam you have lot less problems that way..

Man I want burnout 3 (runner-up) on pc... this game look fun and I've never tried it Sad

And mhhh where do you get the list of "good" mods/maps? I've looked for some time on hl2files but it's not sorted in any way and they put everthing there... most of maps are just little box with some crappy things in it.. moddb is great but none of the big mods there are released..

Look at "Half-Life 2 Files Top 20 Downloads this Week". I'm also thinking of making an "Official hl2 mods and maps thread" to make everything easier. Could be nice with some assistance and maybe reviewing Cool .

Anyway, at these places most of the best maps including those ready for the Valve contest are submitted, both betas and final releases:

Halflife2.net - http://www.halflife2.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=96
Steampowered forums - http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=46

Some very good news from Valve today:

Quote:
Last week marked the end of the Half-Life 2: Deathmatch level design contest. We received over 200 submissions, and we're going through and playtesting each one. There are a number of great maps in here, and we're already having trouble picking the clear winners. The release of the winning maps will coincidice with a release of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, which will include two new weapons: the Slam and Stunstick.

Also of note for level designers and Mod builders: there will be an update to the Half-Life SDK this week which most notably will include source files for six Half-Life 2 maps.

Lastly, work on Dave Riller's new map cs_compound continues, along with the other projects we're working on here at Valve. We'll have an update on the map and our other projects next month.

Changelog of the new update:

Quote:
# Added XSI addon for importing and exporting SMDs
# Added simple SDK bot sample code for adding bots to your mod
# Added source files for six Half-Life 2 single player maps
# Added interface plugin to add bots to mods
# Fixed resource leak in the SDK launcher and vconfig utiity
# Added bspzip tool -- allows you to compile custom content directly into a .bsp

will any of these updates from emporio / vengeance / any other release group make any difference to my vengeance half life 2 dvd installation if i ONLY want to play it Single player? Do they actually patch the game itself as in patch up the single player campaign? or are they only to play online? I keep getting all these updates but i am not sure if they will make any difference to me or not since i only want to play it Single player.

check the steampowered webiste and check what updates do. Most patch up the engine itself, removing bugs and getting faster FPS for online AND offline. But whaterever, most of the fix are really minor and usually people get them just to play online (or because they are obligated by using steam). Getting all the vengeance update WON'T make your game working online

I've got the Half-Life_2_DVD_Retail-VENGEANCE and I installed the following updates in this order:
1. Half-Life_2_and_CS_Source_Protocol_v7_Update-VENGEANCE
2. Half-Life_2_Deathmatch_Addon-VENGEANCE
3. Half-Life_2_Update_3-VENGEANCE
4. Half-Life_2_Update_4-VENGEANCE
5. Half-Life_2_Update_5-VENGEANCE

I followed the instructions of the nfo files and it should be possible to play CS and HL2 online. But I cant:
in the game I can see and refresh the serverslist but I cant connect to any server. Ill get the following message:
"[TEMP] Your version does not match the server. Please restart the game."

So whats the problem?? Is there a new update released by Valve or what?? Does anyone have a solution so I can play both games online??
Thx u.

PostPosted: Mon, 28th Mar 2005 22:41    Post subject: how can i activate german language?
I would like to know how to activate german language in the game, cos we dont have steam in this version Wink

I downloaded the "half-life 2_german.gcf" in emule (around 460MB) but now I don't know how to play the game with this file.

I also tried a "language-changer" by emule, but with that thing only the subtitles are german.

Can anyone help me?
