Worked for me also. Was getting 15fps in the shooting part of the mission with all that debris and smoke, and now it never got below 30fps, and that's with a q9550 and a 280gtx 1920x1080 everything on max, APEX High and no AA. Not that i'm gonna play with 30fps (although that was me destroying the entire building inside).
I wish that Nvidia had never invented that PhysX/Apex stuff. They could have used OpenCl so that ATI owners wouldn't have problems, I guess they games would still be demanding but at least there would be some sort of standard for Phys FX's.
Which also reminds me of an article I read earlier this year about OpenGl, what was interesting was that OpenGl apparently already supported the DX11 stuff 3 years ago! And Gfx cards at that time could do these things through OpenGl.
It's like the Console exclusives, and I hate all that "Big company pays a developer to make life harder for the competitors".
So respect to Valve for making their catalog Multiplatform for both pc and Mac (and I guess Ps3 aswell), now they just need to support Linux as well. That would be cool in my book
Hm interesting.. Because I get dynamic clothes on Vito even if APEX is set to off... (Not sure on other characters, but definitely on Vito - most noticeable on the coats you can buy at the stores.)
I'm using a time hack so I got to drive around the city, pay a visit to a weapons store, kill the owner, empty the register and take all the guns and ammo he had.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
1 hour left ! And time to test GTX 470 with APEX HIGH after reinstallng physx software !
YEAH
This game surprised, very good optimalization!!! i will see after hour:P
Linear, but most surprising indeed Expectations were high, and we really expect a lot these days, but all in all, a fun game so far Pity there is no incentive to buy though due to the lack of Multiplayer lol, so I guess this one will be mostly pirated in the long run.
But you shouldn't need to disable anything.
Just uninstall physx and install the physx in the mafia II folder.
Should work properly on gpu ad you can have physx high with all effects and good framerates.

Tried that and my fps was still around 30

Not impressive I know, but still, I did not expect the game to run this well on my old comp. I get C grade when disabling Apex, but I think I'm gonna lower the res a little to 1440X900, then it should be smooth enough for me
Ps. I used the tip for disabling certain Apex stuff, but I still got all the debris and ricochet bullets and cloth on Vito

The good thing about the tweak is all the particle effects all are still there. The only thing youre missing is cloth simulation of the other characters/pedestrians which results in the huge fps boost. Totally worth it IMO

I concur, the Fx that is still enabled looks really great even on medium, YAY! So even I can have all that stuff enabled while having acceptable fps @1440X900. Not bad for a GF8800GTS!
And the console tards keep going on and on about Pc gaming being expensive... I say "Put that in your pipe and smoke it!"
