Just out of curiosity, have any Steam game been cracked before the release date?
I honestly can't think of any (but my memory is terrible).
The only one that comes to my mind is Boderlands, but the leak didn't came from a Steam version.

The main issue is usually that the discs for Steam only releases have the data packed in SIM/SID archives (One is the header for it sort of and the other the container for the files.) and it's fully encrypted, pre-loaded data is also encrypted and can't be decrypted easily and the decryption keys are usually only made available one or two days before release (23rd in this case for example for the US release on the 24th.) however the keys for this games various archives and even all DLC are already available so using a tool or loader that can decrypt those files will allow the data to be accessed without any issues.
The game does still have a connection to Steam that would need to be cracked and also uses online activation, likely SecuROM but the main protection is still the encryption and that doesn't work at all if the keys will still be available.
(Well I've backed them all up in case though.)
Skidrow can crack Steam rather quickly and both Reloaded and Razor can handle SecuROM or Steam (And others.) so there's nothing blocking a theoretical release should a store start selling early. (As will happen late next week or early the one after I'd imagine since it's a major title thus earning said store extra profit earlier than intended, US date is earlier so bestbuy or Walmart are both likely as is Target based on how other titles like say Doom 3 were handled.)
EDIT: Like more or less always happens though the X360 image will most certainly leak first.

Loving the demo so far, might have to buy it after all. The soundtrack and especially delta city radio is cool.
I stole a cop car, and to my amazement when turning on the sirens all cars drive to the side to give you room to drive. Never seen this level of detail in a game.
My only complaint is the "modern" cops who seem to spawn from nowhere and hunt you down.
You can change your clothes at the start of the demo, I put on the tux and hat looking like a proper gangster.

Well, something happened to me that i tought was totally awesome...
I shot one of those black guys (if you shot one already, you know that instantly all of them in the area radius come hunt you down), and a firefight ensued. Then, a cop car was passing by, i hid in an alley and holstered my weapon. Next thing i saw, a huge firefight ensued between the cops, that called for backup, and the black guys, but since any cop seen me firing, not one of them came looking for me.
What i was trying to say is: in GTA, any of them, even 4, you're the main threat. The cops don't care that you have a mob of furious fuckers chasing you, YOU are the number 1 threat, no matter what happens. In mafia 2, they respond to ANY threat. THIS FIREFIGHT ALONE sold the game for me, preordering now.

Played the demo over and over again, the game looks really polished, and it seems to have a soul like its glorious ancestor. I feel like the city is living, not just some kind of complicated algorythm as in GTA.
The only thing I'm kinda worried about is how unlikeable the main character seems to be. I got issues enjoying an avatar when he is basically boring as fuck.
