I just started reading all the comments and not sure if the crack has been fixed yet. But I did see some 'trainers' for the game, so you may want to try using a 'trainer' for the chapter 2 bleeding problem until the crack is fixed.

There is a fix. search for "skidrow proper". And after the fix start mission over. It works, tried it yesterday.

Well finished the game yesterday, loved it, a very good game and a true sequel to Mafia, too bad I somehow didn't feel it this time. For me it somehow lost the drama, the sadness (maybe I've just grow up) at the end of mafia 1 I was sad and touched, had something to think about, but in this one... I really want a conclusion, a sad one, because thats what mob stories should be. (At least thats my opinion)
BTW (second to last mission spoiler!!! dont open spoiler tag if you havent finished the game!!)
Spoiler: |
I really loved the 14th chapter (if I remember the number right). The point that you go and kill Tommy Angelo.... mmmm... "Salieri sends his regards", damn had a nerdgasm at that point. BEST FREEKIN connection/intersection/idea EVVAAAARRRR

The game is brilliant, but feels short. Wish i could have some end game free-roam and re-playability. I love the game so much and i don't have an excuse to continue playing it. Maybe some dlc's will fix this somehow. This game deserves an expansion and fast.

Wow, I am really surprised about the performance. Even on my weak, old dualcore its running very smooth.
But I agree about the great-looking but finally rather useless open-world concept in a linear, mission-based game like this one. I mean, in GTA Vice City or San Andreas the "open world" makes sense because there are lots of things to find beside the main storyline - vehicles, weapons, secret missions, special buildings, shops, money and so on.
OK, Mafia isnt GTA, but losing lot of its potential due to the restricted gameplay focused only on the main story. there is really no reason to explore the world beside sightseeing. OK, looks pretty and authentic, great atmosphere - but thats all.
well, I am going to play it through nevertheless, but for me it feels indeed more like an "interactive movie"....
regards

the view distance in MAFIA is very low though , when looking at the otherside of prison its very blurry.... no wonder it runs smooth.
I got my sliders on advanced settings in GTA4 set to about 15/20% and get better detail at longer distances and the game runs just as smooth. Biggest problem i see is people try to render half the town at once and get shitty framerate and call the engine badly optimised cause of that.

I think Mafia 2 is pure gorgeousness. It's amazingly detailed and the city's got it's own character and feel that no other game has ever reached. It's a damn pity they didn't spend another 8-12 month adding content to an amazing engine and gorgeous lifelike 50'ies city. GTA4 has absolutely nothing on Mafia 2 when it comes to a beautifully designed city in a game.
As somebody else wrote: during the course of the game you only see a tiny part of the full beauty of the city.
I do agree that the city is somewhat wasted since the game in itself is so short and there's no free-roam mode. I wish it had been a little more open-ended than it is (ie. picking up quests from various characters around the town without following the main script).

I have my view sliders up high in GTA IV and pop in of items and city objects is horrendously bad compared to Mafia 2

Watch out not to cum all over your self .
has nothing on GTA .. right .. seriously i must have missed the time where people started playing games because of " presentation " and " story " ... excluding the most important thing , FUN FACTOR . there is allmost no FUN in this game ... you feel obligated to finishing it only because of the story not because " jee its so fun driving to point A , watch a cutscene and drive to point B .

Liking a game for its visual presentation is exactly what defines console kiddies , And you did just that with your ghey drolling over " presentation and 50's "FEEL" to it " ... lol

Seeing as Mafia has these too, theoretically it should be fun as well for the console derps.

Feel = Atmosphere
Atmosphere = combination of artist rendition of a picture, moment , vibe. Using audio , visual queues to succeed in such a desired effect. Ergo, using music, sounds, visual aids like clothing, buildings, cars, colors even to get this 50's feel. GTA doesn't have a unique feel to it because it doesn't try to bring us to a specific period.
Ok granted Vice city and SA where, 80's , 90's. They were about stereotypes more than actual era feeling.
Console kiddis are after dem graphix and dem easy shootan. It's a shame you think of yourself as a pc gamer if you can't appreciate mafia.

As a sad pathetic example of someone that shits his pants when someone displays a differing opinion (in this case you went ballistic because I compared the CITIES in Mafia 2 and GTA4, note that I did NOT compare game play or said anything about which game was BETTER) I can only surmise you either didn't get enough love from your parents, OR you got a little too much love from daddy.
So please, learn to read instead of going on a "special person" rampage because you couldn't even understand what you were reading. *sigh*
(where do these noobie dimwits come from? 4chan?) |
next thing you know, he'll go internet tough guy on us
On a side note, can we have some gameplay stories?
1. Robbed a clothing store, one of the small ones. Changed clothes and got out before the cops arrived. I walk around a bit in the area, see two cops in that store on my minimap. Walk in and see the cops are questioning the lady clerk. So i walk closer to the cops to see what happens. A couple of seconds later the lady after saying she's been robbed by a dark haired dude , about medium hight. Starts yelling that it's " the guy" , while i was right next to the cops.
I was pleasantly surprised by this , i mean it's one of those mafia gameplay details.

I feel like an idiot but I can't get the game to start. Used the SKIDROW crackfix but I get an ''steam_api.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstallin blah blah blah''. Do I need Steam or am I doing something wrong?

Mafia II and Mass Effect 2 are the best games for me this year. Story, gameplay, atmosphere, sountrack, everything you want. The Jimmy's Vendetta is available yet ? Or on the 27th ?
