Thief 3 uses the engine from Deus Ex 2 (although it's been improved). This means the game needs a card that supports basic shading. This means roughly a GF3Ti (?), GF4Ti, Radeon 8500+ and any GF FX. Most laptops come with weak graphics chips, which won't support this, so Thief 3 won't work.

As others says, it mostly depends on the videocard you got. I don't think you can get it to work properly without at least 64mb of dedicated video memory, entry level systems in this range will come loaded with a radeon 9000-9200 64mb or better (or nvidia equivalent). Sysmte with those videocard obvioulsy meet this level in all components as we're talking about laptops...

I have a Compaq X1050 (radeon 9200 32mb) and I woudn't even consider intalling it, I still can run a lot of games but they have to be very well optimised like Max Payne 2.
