How's PS:T run on Windows 7? I remember reading about it crashing or something whenever big spells are cast... was that with Nvidia cards? I have 8800GT.
Bout time I replay that game.. think I only beat it once.

Original distribution came with 4 CDs, later distributions with 2 CDs and also with 1 DVD.
There is some guide to get it installed on modern PCs.

@W123 That also partially answers your question.

@Hfric
@TripleDee Wasn't that already mentioned, or perhaps that was in the other thread, still thats another great Troika game, and it's indeed heavier on the story/plot than most rpgs and definitely more than TOEE.

Arcanum is quite strange at times though, female player characters have to go trough all sorts of strange tasks to advance. (Like sleeping around.)
That said setting "Int" to 1 and hearing the dialogue differences very funny, hearing Vigil one of the main companions screaming out "By the gods the chosen one is a idiot!" at the start of the game was funny as well (Or insulting the dwarven clan about their bearded women and so on.), lots of random encounters and strange stuff as well (Smurf village.) and the mix of tech and magic is interesting though magic is usually more powerful though less interesting as it's more traditional, somewhat buggy but there are unofficial patches for it which help a lot.

I don't remember Arcanum as story intensive, strange.

I've been playing Anachronox for a while now. While it is fun and seems great, the graphics are really, really outdated. How is this a game from 2001? Am I doing something wrong? Are there highres settings or something similar?

Well it's based on the Quake II engine if I can recall correcly, so it's normal if you find it outdated in terms of graphics, though I've checked and seems that there isn't any graphical mod available. :/

I checked some reviews from 2001, apparently the graphics were deemed dated back then too. Too bad, still a good game though.

Risen kinda dropped the ball in the last(or was it last two) chapter -
Spoiler: | just linear non-stop combat. |
Early and mid game is great, though.

Are bioware games the only places where I see we can develop relationships between party members? (Baldurs Gate, Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Dragon Age) ?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Yes but they're technically not party members

There are some other games, but Bioware games are by far the best in banter between party members. Bioware always was and still is imo, the best in writing a background story and creating interesting character.

Much has changed since I first created this thread. I finished playing BG1+2, PS:T, Icewind Dale1+2, Sanitarium, NWN2.
Try as I might but I couldn't digest Arcanum's shoddy animation system.
Any other games I should know about (story focused)?
1 and 2 are still amazing.

Have you played MoTB for NWN2 - much better story than the original.

Also Witcher 1+2, Bloodlines. Betrayal at Krondor if you're willing to go way back and see how the whole story-focused RPG business started. |
@dserge & pillerman: I never tried any of the expansions. I'll definitely try it. Witcher was fine but I was looking for more of a party based RPG. Betrayl of Krondor... hmmm okay I'll give it a shot.
@BettyShikle: Thanks, I'll try it out. The music sounds nice, just watched a YT vid of the game.
@Chiv:
1 and 2 are still amazing.
