Why are they coding psp before iPhone / iPod touch? Surely more people have iPhones and touches than those that have psp these days!!

But iPhones and iPods don't even have a usb port Laughing

Joking aside, I know there's an adapter, but the iPhone is a very closed platform, I doubt it's that easy to do low-level stuff like emulating a microcontroller. I never tried to develop for iPhones tho, so I might be wrong, but it doesn't sound like something the Apple SDK would support.

Ofcourse Apple wouldn't allow it, but a lot of iPhones and iPods and even iPads are jailbroken, which means they could run anything on it.

it is possible to Rip PSN games as well?

Yup! Check back a few posts, I linked to an app called "PSN Download Manager" That tool lets you download PSN titles .. but the developer says you can only download titles you have paid for, and thus have the license file. I'm of the opinion that the Jailbreak will allow some nefarious coder to remove that requirement Laughing

Aye, absolutely. If there's anyone who's been waiting for the right time, I'd say that time is upon you. The USB mod works on a buffer overflow exploit in the way that the PS3 handles USB hubs, alongside some reverse-engineered code based off Sony's own "jig stick" (same shit as the original PSP service battery) -- and you can bet your arse Sony's techs are working round the clock right now to find a way to fix it. If the knowledgeable ones at PSX-Scene are correct, then Sony may not be able to fix it with current hardware/software (simply because this exploits Sony's own method of recovering bad firmware updates) but they're definitely going to do something.

OK, heres something I wanted to see tested but haven't as yet. I'm ripping uncharted 1 to the external HDD as we speak.

Uncharted has an extremely long load time when you first launch the game so I'm going to rip it, and launch it and see how long it takes. I'll then boot it from the BD and see what the difference is. I'll report back when I'm done.

Wowzers..this game is ripping very quickly. 60% in 5 minutes.

Yes!!! Thanks mate, that's EXACTLY what people have been asking for since this whole thing began, but instead all we get is shaky hand-cam videos just showing the ripping process. I'd love to know, for certain, that booting completely off the internal HDD decreases loading times.

Also, how about a tri-way test? Speed from BDR, speed from Internal and speed from External?

Sorry mate, I only have a 40GB internal and it's almost full. I want to keep things external anyway.

Ahh, ok. Well that's brilliant then as I reckon that's the HDD most people will be using. It'll be nice to see if external USB offers faster access than the BD.

I'm waiting a few weeks.... either I get an AT90xxx chip (or Teensy, whatever) or wait to see if this port to the PSP ever comes to fruition. Either way; my PS3 is now on 3.41 and it's STAYING there Laughing

Íf only I could find a bloody PS3 torrent site.

Still ripping BTW. 81% now, seems the files at the end of the rip are the biggest in this game so it's slowed right down in terms of the % progress bar.

To my knowledge, none of the existing PS3 rips that have been done over the years will work. Apparently it's due to the security on the BD-ROMs itself ... you could burn them, but the PS3 won't see them. Not even via Backup Manager Sad

Wow, damn. I might even buy a PS3 Laughing

Sony really is in shitter right now. MS patched Xbox JTAG exploit even before it was released (thanks to those sellouts who sold it first to MS Sad )

LOL! Yeah, I remember that! "In the spirit of cooperation, we forwarded all our code and technological knowledge to MS so they would have a fair chance to counteract it" What in the fuck...???

I'm sure you can extract the images and it would see them then. I downloaded that Viking of assguard game from usenet and it's in folder form so I'll dump it on the drive later and see if it works.

Otherwise I'm going to have a lot of fun ripping my own bloody games...NOT! Razz

That's what I plan to do; start renting games and ripping them Very Happy I'm definitely going for the internal HDD route though (750GB internal is a lot faster and cheaper than an external one) as I don't want to deal with the 4GB filesize limit on externals. The one thing that is absolutely ESSENTIAL to fix; is the updates predicament. Right now you can't install updates on games installed to HDD, and if you already have updates for games that you later dump .. they refuse to load.

That's tantamount to a deal breaker right there.

that, i did not know, any makes things somewhat pointless if you plan to play on PSN.

However, tbh, for single player, updates aren't that important. I've not installed a 360 update for 3 years, and i've played all big games that have come out.

I'm still in two minds as to whether I want PSN access. I guess is Sony are going to ban our consoles, then they're going to ban our consoles regardless. I'd give up PSN for the sake of playing whatever the hell I want for free though.

P.s. Sabin, does it take any 3.5" SATA HDD? even the new PS3 slim? Or do you need specific hdd models akin to the x360?

Unfortunately, you can't rent games in the Netherlands.

Which is why I have my hopes pinned on some homebrew code allowing downloadable games to be played (ala; PSP! Very Happy)

Oh man, that is so not true. Especially not on PS3 games, some of them launch in such shoddy condition that a patch is ESSENTIAL. Case in point; the ridiculous fucking controls on KillZone 2, which were later patched to be more responsive and less sluggish like your hands were covered in treacle, or there was an input delay of 2000ms Laughing

Agreed on that. I HATE PSN compared to XBL anyhow, so it really won't be that much of a loss (the devteam at PSGroove seem to agree as well; as their launch software disables PSN access as well as Backup Launching, though backups were patched back in) As for the HDD; Any internal 2.5" (laptop size) SATA drive that is 9mm in height. The largest I've seen is 750GB, the larger capacity drives are 12.5mm .. and those require a drive-bay mod to fit. Externals can be any size whatsoever.

Don't you have a Blockbusters or any kind of movie-stroke-game rental store? :\

Watto1020 wrote:

Nobody knows mate. The PS3 uses a proprietary filesystem that some people have guessed is based of ext3, but there's been no conclusive proof as of yet .. and the drive can't be read in Windows, nor can you format external drives to the same - only FAT32.

No, you really can't hire video games in Holland. They don't do it here. They used to back in the PS1 days but AFAIK it's illegal here now. I remember reading something about it not so long ago.

EDIT: Uncharted is STILL ripping. On 86% now and I'm an hour and 5 mins in. I have to say though that I'm using an old 500GB IDE drive in an external USB 2 casing so it might be the drive, although I tested the read write speed when connected to my PC and was getting 35MB/s +/-

No, you can grab any size internal you want (within the provisos that I listed) and the PS3 *itself* will format it properly, we just don't know what it formats it to - or how to read it outside of the PS3. As for externals; they work fine for any and all games that *don't* have any files on the BD that are over 4GB.
