OK, I've almost finished downloading an old rip of heavenly sword. I'm going to try to extract the image and see if the BM will see it.

Pretty fun, it's like a house-share - some flatmates are fun and knowledgeable, others are just annoying and keep shouting "HEY ABBOTT!" every so often. Oh and you have to buy your own food Sad

Great stuff! I think the only downside to waiting for people uploading their own rips is that we can only get the games with <4GB files inside them, since there's currently no way to read data off the internal drive Sad

Can't try it. I can't install to the internal drive and the iso is almost 20GB so it won't fit within the 4GB filesize limit of the external obviously.

NM, you don't need to put the iso on the drive. I'll try it out.

I don't think it works cause B Manager decrypts the files on a specific way.. those iso's are different ripped the files are encrypted.. at least this nfo I got from psx scene or some other site don't remember.

This ISO Converter works on the same principle as Backup Manager, else Teknogods wouldn't have released it in the first place Wink

Well it seems to be working. It's putting it onto the drive in the correct format.

This is a magnificent day for PS3 owners/pirates... and I predict a lot of Japanese executives taking the 15th Story Plunge© right now....

To be honest? I really don't know mate. I'm not clued up on the entireties of the code, that would have to be someone more knowledgeable, but from what I've gathered; the USB exploit would be unpatchable on current hardware simply because it's the very same "loophole" Sony uses to fix dead PS3s. Just like the Jig-Stick for the PSP.

It failed with an out of memory exception. I don't know if that means there's a 4GB file on it or not. I'm trying it again.

So this exploit only works on v.3.41 or has anyone managed to get it running on earlier version's? I've not updated my PS3 since mid last year, so if it only works on 3.41 then i'll have to update to that then never update again..

OK, well I extracted the heavenly sword image directly onto the HDD using 7zip. When I wne into the BM it was listed, but when I tried to launch it it said that the EBOOT.BIN was invalid.

I'll try it again later when the kids are in bed.

Were there any files over 4GB? Something that could have possibly made the app crash? We know that BM decrypts the eboot.bin when it dumps from BD, so perhaps bypassing the BM or ISOLoader isn't the best way to go right now.

I think it is possible to fix the usb exploit, in fact, I'm pretty sure this can be done with a firmware update. This is also the reason I wait with buying PS3 and a USB thing to try it out, I'm guessing within a month or so Sony fixed it.

What makes you so sure? The technical details of the exploit have already been fully documented.. and in the end, it boils down to one simple fact; this is the exact method Sony uses to enable dev access to PS3s with damaged firmware updates, allowing them to go in and reflash the working firmware. The same method used on the PSP with the "service" battery/memstick. The PSP never received a firmware update to fix it, only newer hardware revisions could remove the loophole.

If Sony could have done this, they would have done it already. They went all scorched earth and removed OtherOS completely just because of the POSSIBILITY that Geohot had found a hackable exploit.

I tried to rip the eboot.bin out to replace the one i extracted with 7zip but I still got the same error. Must just be a bad rip. I'll try another game later.
