Yeah, saw this on IMDb yesterday. Well it fits, hehe, and should be interesting. Arnold's stint in politics should also end before filming of the second film, so we might see Willis using Arnold's team to hunt Stallone. Van Damme is also missing from TE, so lets hope this time he is not a complete idiot and agrees to be in TE2.
One can only dream, right? Laughing

if you thought this movie was meant to show off the acting chops of peoples then the lol is on you!

Exactly. Laughing And even still, they displayed a lot more acting skills than say The Losers or even The A Team, and that one is full of A-rated film actors. In TE you could actually feel like the group were really close (probably them being friends helps a lot in this). Say what you will about Stallone, but he's been continually impressing me since Rocky Balboa (after a long stale period for him).

I hope so! I coudlnt stop looking at Stalon's arms, fooking vains looked like they were going to pop, lets hope he doesnt have a heart attack by the time they film the next movie (if they do)

Hahaha I think Stallone's veins have been like this for a long time, but yeah, let's really hope so. I haven't been the biggest fan of movies trying to recreate the 80s/90s action flick feeling, and this one felt right at home. Some not like it, I guess they didn't like that era of goofy action, but I think Stallone made it perfect.

It was successful as well! Surprised
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=expendables.htm

And that's just cinema results. Once DVD and Bluray start pouring in, the studio will see a lot of cash with this one. I honestly didn't believe it would be so successful. My hopes were that it would at least return the investment, and now it's $100m above that already! Very Happy

All the more incentive for the studio to make a sequel. And I want Van Damme in it too! I watched JCVD yesterday again and damn I miss him in better films. Crying or Very sad If Dolph can do it, Van Damme can too! Smile

Who cares they are old, beats having teens fly around the screen and kick asses of 500 pound war machines. They are action icons, and now thanks to CGI they can still kick ass even if they would be rolling on wheelchairs, and I love it.

I recently watched it and it was OK! The movie should've had a better script! And too many stars with not enough screen time! And the one huge guy in the expendables team seemed so unnecessary :/

They should make a second one when they have a proper script Smile I'd watch it in the cinema for sure!

*Rambo 4 was still better *

just finished watching it... i like it. yep there were definately problems with it...

first up, the dialog really needed work... a lot of the one liners, i sadly admit, fell flat... shoulda been wittier and funnier as youd expect from the personalities being brought together... this is were i felt it was at it worst. i mean some DID still hit, and the dialog was servicable enough, but it should have been better.

next. jet li. nuff said.

third it also took a bit too long to kick in - better dialog would have helped, but yeah - it wasnt till the second half until i was really getting into it.

finally, dolph. man i love that dude, always have... hes got such an awesome screen presence.., and he WAS one of the BEST things in this movie... but man, i wanted MORE... i hope the second film has him in the spotlight more, because the guys just epic, and the character was a fuckload of fun... id say i liked HIS character more than ANY of the others, actually.

but otherwise, twas all good.. man, stallone sure as hell knows how to shoot action! the battle at the end, especially the first part - battle in the catacombs... wow... no seriously, FUCKING WOW. - i think that alone sold me on 1080 worthiness of this movie... its one of the most viscerally satisfying, most indulgent exciting, intense and bad-ass (for lack of a better word) action sequence i think i might have ever seen... it wasnt just action, it was a ballet. a bloody manly action packed ass kickin ballet... stunning to watch... just wow.

rating it a 7/10 btw... definately enough fun to have me eagerly looking forward to the next one... but i hope they tighten up the one-liners next time... and trim back the jet, and FUCKING AMP UP THE DOLPH!

after our wee talk i ended up just grabbing the original dvdscr.. sound was a bit quiet at times during some dialog (mainly rourkes stuff) but overall it was quite audible... also i didnt have to deal with russki subs and i got a nice 16:9 resolution... couldnt be bothered getting the upscaled release... only reason i was tempted was because it mentioned a dts track? sounded fishy, but how was it?

I've just watched it, and honestly it wasn't that bad. With a slightly more accurate characterization of characters, some better dialogues and more polished special effects it would have easily been a 7/10. Actually, considering the mentioned "flaws", I can't rate it more than 6/10.

I'm definitely ready for TE2 though. Razz

if any film NEEDED a directors cut, its this one... and i honestly think there will be one. theres HUGE room for improvement in terms of fleshing out the team... i mean these guys are supposed to be totally tight-knit but that never comes across really well and i think thats a huge part of the problem - id happy watch an extended movie that DIDNT add more gore, just to see that aspect improved... he did it with rambo, cant see why he wouldnt do something similar with this because he knows most movie goers these days dont like talky talky to interrupt their shooty shooty...

Just watched this last night, and my god have I been waiting for a simple action film like this.

It does have problems like chiv says; although a lot of the one-liners did work for me, despite being completely predictable like "ARE YOU CRAZY ?! - You're welcome". Worked for me, even if just for Statham's accent Razz

The one thing this film did for me though, is want more. And preferably with at least Arnie and Bruce, because those two + Stallone worked great in the (way too short) one scene they had Very Happy

7/10 from me (Rambo 4 gets a 8,25)

Stallone's love story was unnecessary and too much characterization, Crews and Li got no characterization at all, but Statham had a good co-star part and Rourke had a great supporting part - he really gave meaning to the movie and he looks as fucked up as his role should feel.
Action was great but Rambo 4 was more coherent with a better script.

Great movie. Mostly thanks to that 80's-90's wibe it had. 8,5 or even 9/10. But the CGI was feckin awful. The blood, the fire. Why the fuck didn't they just take a stuntman and set him on fire to shot that one scene? And Dolph? He had the best one liner ever Very Happy ...

also more dolph!

no seriously, i got the feeling he was the most interesting character out of the entire lot... seems like the life got to him and he got all fucked up on drugs and became unstable, but he still loved his work and the team... even when he
 Spoiler:

it was pretty obvious he didnt do it because he hated them or wanted to kill them, you get the feeling it was almost childishness... like he was lashing out because he was upset, like a child might go nuts on their parents when they ground them or take away their toys.. he would have happily killed every one of the bad guys if they annoyed him, because they were irrelevant... they were purely his means to throw his little fun filled tantrum...

like i said... interesting character.. need more of him, if not in the DC, DEFINITELY in the fucking sequel Very Happy

oh, and he totally owned li... poor little fellow never stood a fucking chance Wink

oh and for the sequel, how about...

jet li vs donnie yen

dolph vs jcvd - but this time dolph gets to fuck HIM up.

statham vs vin diesel... battle of the baldies

stallone vs dwayne johnson - bit of old vs new... stallone wins naturally... sends the younger generation a fuckin message Very Happy

i also want to see wesley snipes in there somewhere. his new shit has sucked pretty badly, but hes still definately earned a spot in an action-man ensemble, if for no other reason than demolition man.

re: bad cgi... i agree, the dude on fire at the end was pretty terrible, but the cgi blood DIDNT bother me, because it totally lent itself awesomely well to the visceral action. that bit where statham slashed the fuck out of that guy during the catacombs fight near the end, and you see the cgi blood shooting out.. no way would that scene have looked as fucking satisfying with blood packs or no blood at all... so yeah, if the effect is worthwhile, i can handle the cgi blood because the trade-off is worth it to me.

but yeah, that cgi fire was shocking, but oh well.

Since this thread is related to Sly, I have a question about Rambo.

Rambo.Extended.Cut.2008.BluRay.1080p.DTS.x264-CHD
Rambo.2008.Extended.Cut.1080p.BluRay.x264-LCHD

What exactly differs between these releases? The CHD is about 1GB bigger.

The video bitrate is higher...

CHD : 12300 Kbps
LCHD : 9944 Kbps

So yeah, CHD is better.
