I've been playing this game for a while now, and yes it's the best game released in a good while now.
It's so much fun watching ships break up in parts and sink and then to see debrees (spelling) floating in the sea.
The storms are awsome and so immersive, just watching the waves hitting the tower and washing over the watch crew.

I have been on one patrol now and didnt find any ships except one but i was too affraid to take it down since i'm not very good yet Very Happy
so i went under and sailed past it.
patroled a grid went home, really impressed with the sea and weather.
Came home to the port in Bergen, Norway but now i can't find out how to end the patrol.

So does anyone know what to do when you arrive at the ports after a patrol?
lol i have been sitting in port for a while trying to figure out what to do.

I got a serious question now.. I managed to find that damn channel after all (as you were saying, it pays of to check the radio messages..). Now I´m out on the first patrol, and I found a target, but when I´m telling the radio officer to check the distance to the target he just tells me there is no target selected..Sad And I´ve locked it in the attack scope and all.. what am I doing wrong?

Your radio officer does not do that.........

i think he only does it about the last target he found

Holy macaroni, I hit the jackpot on my second patrol...

First patrol: grid AL 36

on my way up there just north of scapa flow, I encounter my first enemy merchant ship ever.

I position myself, do the necessary calculations, open tubes I and III, "TORPEDOS LOS!!!" chrono is running.... omg first torpedo missed but the second right on, I see the vessel breaking in two and my crew is loving it. So I want to continue my journey but sudden I spot 2 destroyers heading my way, quick I dive and keep still hoping they havent spotted me. And they didn't...

Coming to periscope depth i see there is one right behind me and one a couple of degrees to port bow, trying my supertactic, fast firing two torpedos to the front and one at the back I sunk them both, they hadn't any clue untill the torpedos struck.

Nothing much did occur so i did my patrol and went back to base.

2nd patrol: same sector :s

okay taking the same route to the patrol zone i do not encounter any hostile activity, doing my patrol guessing this patrol will go smooth and easy. The minute I finish my patrol I'm getting over the radio a report that a large convoy is spotted 1 grid away. Not with a single second of hesitation I go flank to the position, by break of dawn I come in right behind a huge convoy of 12 ships... seeing that it isn't being escorted. 9 Brittish and 3 American ships, 6 heavy cargo, 2 huge tankers and 4 large merchant ships.

Going into position I had to surface because of the very rough seas (my periscope didnt get a look over the huge waves). Once there I target the two tankers and fire two torpedos each, both sunk like a brik... the others started to zigzag but that was only in my advantage, being that close, I didnt have to reposition myself and they give me the angle needed for attack. Firing all I've got I sunk all 9 british ships, between reloading I prayed that no reinforcments were coming but it was really my lucky day. Without any ammo I returned back to base, sadly due to bad weather I couldn't finish two lone merchant ships with my deck gun. Once in Base I had loads of decorations and promotions available for my crew.

GOD I LOVE THIS GAME Very Happy

to cut a long story short

My men died sinking helplessly trying to repair the damage.. but .. to much water in the ship.. = sinking = ship breaking up = all my crew dying

Yiehaa! I just made a "Das boot" encounter...

I ran into a convoy with escort and just crashdived (I´m a noob so far) and kept up my ahead flank right into the convoy, then I layed there and waited a while... Then the sonar began "plonging" and "plinging" so I got curious... Took her up to periscope dept, and raised the scope... saw nothing...turned the scope to look around, saw a big ass ship like only meters away running right in my direction! It looked so awesome, until the ship took of my tower with it´s keel i think... end of story and the end of Fanstyg´s patrol..Razz But damn so cool! Didn´t even had time for a screenshot, cuz I almost panicked..

Well of to patrol some more now... And hopefully my woman won´t kill me cuz I´m sitting here all the time. Very Happy

in multiplayer you can, but it has to be done indirectly. Like if the other sub is surfaced, you can turn your sub in its direction and be positioned perpendicular. You can very well hit another sub with a torp. =]

I barely made it alive on my 2nd patrol. While cruising around to my patrol sector, two destroyers showed up and started pounding on me with cannons. They damaged my tower, flak and naval cannon. I had to dive to periscope level and stay there for about an hour or so till he left. For some reason I couldnt move so I had to surface and repair the damage.

i think the people that have the game are maybe just so hyped about this silent hunter 3, cuz they actually BOUGHT (payed MONEY for a product!) it...

they say this game deserves the money...
IMO most good games deserve it... whats about act of war, what about brothers in arms and all good games in the past (that mutch people enjoyed and written down here in the forum) ?
a game dont deserve its money only when the game is not possible to be copied!

and btw. here is some not so hyped german review from the "powerplay"

Silent Hunter 3

Grafik:9 Sound:8 Controls:8 Multiplayer:5 Endscore:82

maybe its just a "good" game?

Well not everyone likes "sim" games.

If you expect non stop action without thinking to much, than this isn't a game for you. This game may require you to write a manual Shocked

You know "a manual", that's something like a lot of emails printed out and put behind eachother Wink

But you may be right about people who like the game more because they payed for it, it's like they try to convince themselves it's really good. Otherwise they just screwed themselves

But I'm sure this is good, and I am gonna buy it tomorrow.

SeaWolf: I know what it means, I know russian:/

Zone: Well, I wouldn't belive to one reviewer when 90% of ppl on this forum say it's a great game, and frankly I belive them more then I belive some german review mag(or whatever).
Btw, 82 isn't that bad too.

Anyway, I'll wait for the demo before I'll decide, but if no demo comes, I'll go and buy it.

Back from the sea once again Razz

Have to say something... Sure, not everyone likes sims games, but I can assure those who like sim games that this game rocks. If you only play CS, Call of Duty etc, then maybe this isn´t the game for you even though it´s so well done and beautiful.
I didn´t only buy it cuz this damn Starforce. This is one of the few games that´s nice to own. It has a cool map, quick reference card, and a printed manual.. more nice to read than sitting and read through a pdf file IMO.
And then there is the MP part off course. Feels good for once to have a legit cd-key..Very Happy

ugh i buy 90% of my games.... i buy a few games per month....

and u cant comment cause u have not even played this game.....

this game is not for everyone.. alot of cs noobs will go "Zzz this games boring" .. however this game (On realistic settings) will require the most skill out of any game out today....

or u can put it on easy and the game can be a arcadey type game which is just point and shoot...

for this game u require patience....

u wanna know why i think this game is so good ?? is that EVERYTIME u play it.. its never the same.... just look at all the storys here..

yes.. u said

"btw. i saw it in action some days ago and for me its just boring... *snarfff*"

So basically that means u dont like these games/dont have the patience..

This game is not for everyone... as someone said before

Also.. i would think prolly less than 40% of people on this forum will like this game.. simply because its so different.... and DOES require alot of patience...

BUT .. for those that enjoy this type of thing/people who are prepared to try something new and know what they are getting into will LOVE it..

and im not a hardcore sim player by any means...
