Yeah this is basically the same demo already shown at the E3 but played a little bit differently: unfortunately seems that the problems with the AI are still there, and the protagonist's abilities such as the multiple takedown and the uber-effective invisibility seem too damn overpowered to me. True, they even admitted that health and ammo were infinite for this demo.

Aye and, for the demo, they have infinite health and the new "energy" for augs too.

Haha okay, that sounds reasonable, otherwise the game could be played with closed eyes abusing of the invisibilty skill and taking down any enemy with the sexy lethal and automated moves. Razz

I never understood why devs do this. I think such demonstrations give a wrong impression of the game. Surely one of the developers must be skilled enough to play the game on normal atleast during a demo?

The same engine that powered Tomb Raider Underworld, but hyper enhanced/tweaked.

The textures are quite flat but the TRU engine is a good choice in my opinion, especially in terms of lightning effects and animations Smile

Yeah, I also hate how they demo on fucking consoles all the time. Ugh, hate when they're demoing a shooter or first person game, and the fucking guy can fucking barely aim. Takes 3+seconds to home on the target, when it takes about .2 tops for an average lad like me to shoot stuff in the head in CSS.

In fact, I just hate what consoles are doing to the market, and am bitter, but that's ok, I'll just join a sc2 game now, and massacre some preteen boys.

But it extends the total playtime by at least 2 hours!

That's what I always say what with the laughable deadzones on joysticks, then some x boxhead comes back with:

"but shadowrun showed us how the pc mouse and the xbox controller are equally good!"

Shadowrun showed us what happens when a company consoles a classic if somewhat silly cyberpunk rpg game into a shitty shooter with half-ass ported controls.

God I hope this game doesn't get any more dumbed down than it already looks.

Was there anything about the original game that obviously had to change?

Not really. We didn't want to reproduce the game exactly as it was back then, but rather recreate the aspects in a fresh and new way. We just went in and went back to the first two games, saw what was working well and analysed what would keep the essence of Deus Ex alive but at the same time fit a modern, global audience.

Does that mean hardcore PC gamers can call it 'consolified'?

Absolutely not. I think PC is a great platform, but I think consoles are a great platform, too. Back in the '90s, games on the two platforms were very different, but I think these days it's all about bringing things together - movies, TV, music - they're all converging in the same places for everyone to access. I see it as convergence, and it's the same for games.

We didn't think, 'Oh, it's coming to console; it has to be easy'. We can have a very deep experience, but it's important that if you want to just jump in to it, you can jump in to it. It's not about removing complexity or cutting possibilities: it's about the way the complexity is introduced.

We'll see about that mr. Dugas, we'll see....

I recall EXACTLY the same thing being said in an interview for Deus Ex 2. We all know how that fucking turned out.

What he meant to say instead of convergence, or at least the layman, non-marketing bullshit translation of it, is consolitis Very Happy

Direct fucking contradiction.

I've already "seen" enough. This interview was almost a direct copy of one had with Warren Specter regarding DX2. Oh, it's going to be a great game for both platforms. Oh, we know what made the original great and it's not going to lose those elements. Oh, consoles and PC games are getting closer and closer in terms of ability.

One word (or perhaps a three word hyphenate) accurately sums up my thoughts on this guy: BULL-FUCK-SHIT

I've said it before and I'll say it countless times again. Consoles are based on accessibility, simplicity, and ease. These directly contradict depth and difficulty. Try to play it off however you want, there's no denying the truth. Games need to be made for PC, and then features/graphics/controls stripped down and ported to the inferior platform. Not this multi-platform development shit that has neutered every single game since its introduction (I think DX2 and Thief 3 was really the start of this scourge.). Fuckin' sickening.

After watching some demonstrations, I'm cautiously optimistic.

But I wonder if they will managed to make a kick ass Cyber punk/Conspiracy story that will glue me to the screen.
I'm willing to play and replay a game until my arms fall off, even if a game has a lot of bugs (Bloodlines says Hello!) or strange controls (HI Dead Space), IF the game HAS REAL SUBSTANCE...

Agreed Smile ,

and despite my several concerns about the gameplay, the trio "atmosphere/story/dialogues" seem that is going to be definitely good.

That trailer in Japanese sounds good.
It has some of the ambiance of Ghost in the Shell.

Personally I hated the Japanese version, simply because Deus Ex is NOT GHOST IN THE SHELL. Stop trying to turn DE into it!

Lol. Smile And here's why:

Today I sent the link to the TGS trailer to a bit younger friend. And his first reaction was: "hm, is this inspired by Ghost in the shell"?

I said "blasphemy!" - to myself - and replied that Deus Ex and it's cyberpunk style goes a long way back. He replied: so does Ghost in the shell. Smile

Not that I have something against that very well-done manga (just saw part II last week) but besides a similar futuristic setting, I can't say the similarities are striking.

Actually, I can identify more references in the trailer than just Ghost in the Shell. Matrix, William Gibson, the Mirrorshades group... it's all there. It's a cyberpunk byproduct.

EDIT: And a little touch of Alan Moore's "The Watchmen"

Ghost in the Shell has greatly expanded its universe over the past 10 years. Also, DeusEx was 2000. Ghost in the Shell was 1995, so some Inspiration can not and should not be denied. But of course, as always, everyone wants to harken back to Gibson...
