one thing i do have to give to iron man 2, is the mech and suit designs are just fucking amazing... the amount of detail and the overall visual design of them are just fucking beautiful to look at.

Pretty fun movie, enjoyed it as much as the first one or maybe just a little bit less. I think they could have made it more interesting by actually doing more action scenes...for a cool superhero movie, not enough cgi |
I bet you loved Transformers 2 as well. |
So the magic word to receive the derp award is cgi apparently. No, I'm not a cgi whore and as a consequence I did not like the second Transformers movie (the first one was okay for nostalgia). However, I did enjoy both Iron Man movies for what they are - fun superhero action. And compared to some latest action movies like Prince of Persia for example, they are superb.
As for the rating, I use the whole zero to ten scale, unlike many on the board. Meaning that 5 is mediocre, 6 above average, 7-8 (according to preference) good, 9 excellent, 10 masterpiece. So yeah, I think the movie is good, and might as well give it 7.5/10 and then it would fall into the usual scale people use here which is 6 to 10 with 6 being crap and 10 "liked it"...

I'm 100% with KGen on this, though after second viewing, Im giving it 7.5/10 (I gave it 8.5 the first time).
For what it is, it's a good superhero movie - not as good as the first one by any means, but still very enjoyable. IMO.

i also thought new black guy was better than old black guy. not just because hes a better actor, but he plays the role way better, and usually i hate when they switch actors.
i like the bit in the first movie where BG1 says 'next time' while looking at the suit. always makes me laugh a bit, because he got denied good call though, swapping him out for that cheadle dude. he rocks.

I'll go for a 0.5 higher score of 8.5. The "becoming of" are usually more interesting for me than "another day at the job" and the plot was better.

The actor was a better choice, shame the character was a crock of shit. Hell... the whole film was bullshit and not even CLOSE to being a patch on either the first film or the source material itself. So much nonsense in that film that it honestly made it hard to watch at times. What the hell was up with that court debacle crap?
"We're here to see you turn the Iron Man weapon over to the public"
WHAT THE FUCK? Since when was Capitalist America actually Communist Russia? Then you have Rhodes STEALING the suit? Yeah, whatever, that just wouldn't happen*
*Yes, I'm fully aware he couldn't have "physically" stolen it unless Tony Stark had already programmed Rhodes' authority into the War Machine suit, I'm referring to the POINT. Rhodes was Stark's FRIEND and replacement after Tony relapsed into alcoholism. He never stole the fucking suit, nor was it intended, the War Machine design was always for Rhodes. Always.. and Rhodes knew that. He wouldn't have had to steal it.
Urgh. The film, like most other Marvel films these days, just completely butchered the source material and turned it into nonsense. Oh and let's not even go there about the ridiculously laughable end fight. The battles against the DRONES lasted longer than against Whiplash, who went down in less than a minute. Awesome.
I can't believe Stan Lee would put his name to this drivel, just like Thor and Captain America. I would rate Iron Man as an easy 8/10 (thoroughly enjoyable, plodded along a bit too much, could have been better) and Iron Man 2 at 5/10 *at most*
