I've been out of the loop, apparently. Somebody wanna fill me in? ANY unit can swim across the ocean if they so desire? |
This is pretty standard for Civ. There are costal tiles, and ocean tiles. Without Astronomy you can only use naval units near the coastline (usually 3-4 tiles out). Beyond that you need Astronomy to move naval units farther beyond the coast.

Only there is no need to build the transport ships, your units magically transform into them when you want to cross the ocean. That isn't like any of the other civs at all. Watch some of the gameplay trailers.

You simply can't sail to Mordor though. You need Optics to travel in coast, Astronomy to travel in ocean.
ALSO you need a "Embarkation" promotion for the unit for it to be able to embark.

So what is the release date? 21 or 24? And or does it differ from region to region?

Not only is it more expensive, we get it 3 days later, and people wonder why so many decides to pirate games? Garbage.
I actually think thats a good reason to pirate a game, even though its just a lame childish excuse.

Releases in UK are normally Friday, a few days after US, but not always. Halo Reach was out the same day globally as far as I know, can't see why it can't be that way for everything.

at that price in the US you get the deluxe edition... I'm thinking about the collector's edition, you get 5 figurines... Though it's 100 USD
2600k, GigaByte R9 290x, 8 gis of ram on Windows 7 X64

I don't think it works that way. Nobody mentioned it in the live broadcast videos I saw. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to move XP-less units (like settlers, workers and most great people) through bodies of water. As far as I know, the Embarkation 'promotion' is just a status icon that appears when a given unit is in sea transport mode.
Some may see this new mechanic as "derpification", but personally I think it's cool and adds a certain tactical element to amphibious invasions. Old transports had some measure of defenses, but now that's no more, and you actually have to escort your invasion fleet no matter the foe.
It's also conducive with the new no-stacking rule. Pre-Civ5 transports depended on stacking given a single boat could transport several units. This couldn't work in Civ5 without bending the rules: why would you suddenly be able to cram four infantry units into the single hex the hypothetical standard transport would take?
Both factors, I think, combine to make troop transport more interesting. You used to be able to stack your entire fleet AND transports in a single square with no problems whatsoever, but now you'll have to use several warships to effectively protect what could be 10+ hexes of fragile transports.

SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE: 2K Games is donating a total of $250,000 to four education based charities, and users' choices will determine how the money is dispersed: simply select your choice from the pre-selected charities during the install process.
Neat feature not sure why it's under features, 'charity work' should do just fine, nice of them anyway.
