This simply baffles me. Merlin was much older then Arthur. Even if the age difference was only twenty years Merlin would be anything but young by the time Arthur became a young man and even then clearly he was much older than Arthur so even a twenty year difference wouldn't make sense.

this reeks like a typical "great idea" from a business-suit. Yeah, Harry Potter is over now, so how do we cash in on all the magic-hungry teens now?
Oh wait, why not make a merlin-series, but more like the smallville or the adventures of the young indiana jones thrown into todays setting!
Its like doom without hell. It might be interesting to watch, but it doesnt deserve the name really (and if you think long enough about it your head might explode in rage).

Hey they totally changed the Superman story with Smallville and that worked so it's proven that people don't care as much about past works as you are led to belive as long as the new one is good. If you watch the first episode with an open mind i think the ones of you who like fantasy will like this series.

i never was a harry potter fan, so i wont touch this one with a ten-foot pole. I also never watched smallville because i wasnt that big a fan of superman either. But i know from stuff that i acutally cared about that making something a tv series often ends up in ruination of former greatness (see highlander / that new sarah connor series...).

well, i was referring to my post above with that, where i said that somebody wanted to do a crossover of potter and smallville to gain points with the ex-potter viewers...
just to clarify that i actually dont have much experience with either potter or smallville (both may be great). It just looks like somebody wanted to go for the easy and proven "cash-cow". |

Oh ok, yeah obviously it's tapping into a market absolutely and i've only seen the first episode so i don't know how it will evolve.

well, if the next two or three eps will keep you interested, i might give it a try also. But judging from a pilot alone isnt good enough for the topic for me (with my prejudices about potter and the like  )

i agree
merlin is supposed to be a dark character and such, atleast from the things ive read.
Turning into a teeny bopper tv show and or movie just kills the whole idea and image.
Thats hollywood for you, take something good and fuck it up to sell to the sheep who wouldnt know quality if it hit them in the face
Still, i guess its something for my 10 year old niece to watch. She'll probably like it (even tho when she's with me we watch stuff like 30 days of nights which she enjoys more...but her stupid parents always say "what would jesus watch?" and dont let her watch anything remotely interesting). |

Heh actually i thought the show turned to crap pretty quickly. Not sure why there is a 3rd season of it.

Heh you were totally right. I was naive, i didn't think BBC would fucking try to a Smallville thing but with Merlin instead. Except crappier.
Snoop: glad someone is enjoying it. I gave it a chance but it lost me pretty much at episode 2 .

Worlds slowest show. All i have to say, there is next to none progress in this show. Bet the show will be cancelled before Arthur gets to know that Merlin has powers.
