Unsure if it was needed for the latest update but did you install all updates in order or just the latest one, I assume DirectX is also up to date along with VC++ redist though if they were not the error screen would be different and pointing to a specific file, there's nothing blocking the game either is there like a anti virus program or Windows UAC, perhaps right clicking and choosing run as administrator could work, driver related would also show a specific .dll related to the GPU manufacturer I think so that's probably not it either.

Well the latest patch said you didn't need the previous patches but I installed them all anyways.

DX is the latest as far as im aware, VC++ redist is there. Tried run as admin, I have UAC turned of, AV never interferes with my stuff so I know it's not that.

Hmm, I don't think the game uses .Net either so that's probably nothing to go on, does C:\Users\UserName\Documents\My Games\Elemental contain a debug.err file with anything in it?
(Normal text file, could contain some info about it, logs errors and other issues, latest patches have made it a whole lot smaller, heh.)

I'd say that it seems like it's the refresh rate detection that is causing it, here's what my file says.

If there is a Prefs.ini file set ResetPrefs=0 towards the top to 1 and see if the auto-detection gets it correct (or delete the file.) otherwise set Fullscreen=1 to 0 and see if that works.

(Generic PNP monitor drivers perhaps or ATI CCC behaves oddly, perhaps set desktop res to say 1024x768 at 60hz or some such just for the auto-detection to kick in properly and then set it back, seems like it might be either the game causing this or the monitor is using a non-standard refresh rate or differs somehow, 59 instead of 60hz is a common variation.)

EDIT: Just checked a bit better, 0 seems to be auto-detection so it might not be that simple.
(Perhaps try to disable ATI CCC Catalyst AI though I don't think the game has a proper profile.)

EDIT: Window mode or forcing the game to re-detect the settings could still help though, strange error and not easy to troubleshoot since there isn't much to go on, somewhat of a downside with PC systems due to the huge variety of possible causes and all different hardware.
(I'll search around to see what I can find about it.)

EDIT: It's not that issues where there's a \GFX\GFX folder (Or some such folder in the folder instead of over it or what to call it.) misplace which Skidrow had with one of the updates is it?
