coop ftw....
I absolutely love diablo. I'd say it's one of my top5 favourite games of all time and I played for countless hours online but offline I'm somehow not interested at all..
the lack of coop also made torchlight worthless to me (looking forward to torchlight 2 now with coop!)

I wouldnt blame activision on this. I think WoW has changed Blizzards game design forever. And it fuckings sucks. WoW stay in WoW ffs.

Oh the only reason I blame Activision is because you KNOW there's going to be a dozen "DLC" releases and a bunch of expansions that all raise the level cap by +10. Bashiok claims it's a deliberate design decision to have a lv60 limit and that they've "balanced the scale for that" --- how much do you want to bet this is bullshit and we see addons that increase the "finely tuned" level cap?

Titan Quest had 65 levels and IT increased it +10. 60 levels is fine if they do it right.
I would prefer 99 levels but it's not the end of the world.

As long as the DLC's are not new weapons, a new level or something similar. I wouldn't hate getting full expansions digitaly, but I can't stand small DLC's. And i really hope they raise caps for expansions cause it gives you something to look forward to while playing rather than just getting to the end as quick as possible.

I agree completely! I'm not shocked there's going to be expansions (we know there will) - as that's a GOOD thing. Proper, meaty, fleshed out expansions are amazing things for games. I'm really just taking issue with the whole explanation that they're fine-tuned and tweaked the whole game for a certain level cap... yet we know this is more than likely bullshit as any DLC or expansions will invariably increase the cap anyhow.

Quote: | Augh! 60!?! I just don’t feel like this is levels for me to adequately skill and experiment with my character…. But then again I am looking at it with a perspective of 20 max skill points per skill. Its like what 5 now or something before modification. Idk 60 just seems so low…. 80 i feel l,ike feels and sounds better 60 is like meh “just over the hump”
You can only have seven skills at any one time.
I’m not sure that’s been laid out that specifically before, but it is important in fully understanding how skill point pacing works with the new level cap.
Does that mean there will not be prerequisite skills need to abtain other skills?
Correct.
7total-does that include passive skills or just active. assuming there will be passives..
Active only.
Bash not trying to sound negative but it seems like we are getting less content? please say it isn’t so…
Nope, as I said level doesn’t equal content as we are actually pushing a longer game than Diablo II. We also have types of content that Diablo II did not have. That’ll remain mysterious for now. |
Seven useable skills does sound a little on the low side... Or how many were there in usual D2 builds? Been so long since I've played the original version (Eastern Sun ftw!).

5-7 active sounds about right in most D2 builds that were any good. Could even be less.

Whats the big fuzz around the level 60 cap. Its like 99 just 99 is a bigger number... They could have just raised the level cap from 99 to 199 with expansion but they didnt. It was then now this is now. So what that they are incorporating WoW things into other titles they produce? Its a little annoying to people who play only Diablo or Starcraft but most people who play one of Blizzards games play all of them, including me and i find it quite ok. WoW is their biggest income BY FAR and the biggest thing in the MMO world. Level 60 cap should really be the last thing to gripe about...

Who cares about the level cap? It's not the absolute number that matters, it's how long it takes to get there. Hell it was level 50 in Diablo. There will still be plenty of XP grinding involved.

Well its the package it comes in. This is my hero and Ill make it into anything I want it to be. Forcing me to stay within 7 skills is like saying Im fucking handicapped and need regulation. Im sick of developers shitting over me because they want to appease a greater audience or whatever they think it does well. I like my games complex, difficult and grand and Diablo 2 for example wasnt really any of these but it had some freedom and felt special/unique. If they want my money they better make it worthwhile I will never buy a game simply for beeing a followup of a good game. Hell Ill probably give a bad looking original game a chance over a dumbed-down followup. Im going to enjoy those private server setups acti-blizzard, sellout pieces of shit.

The team working on D3 is not the same people who have done the previous games. Deal with it..
7 active skills is plenty anyways, plus you can change and adapt them via rune sockets to fit the given situation. How's that for customization?
Diablo 2 is not a terribly complicated game and you could easily get by with 3 or 4 skills and just spam them all. Hell for a character like a necromancer all you would have to do would be summoning, then amplify damage + corpse explosion.
In fact D3 sounds like a far more skill intensive game.. though what developers say games are like and what happens when people actually start playing are two different things.. so we just have to wait and see. I'm really glad they are changing things up for D3. Im a huge D2 fan and played it for years (probably my most played game, ever.. who knows how many hundreds of hours I spent on that shit) but that game got extremely stale and repetitive. Eventually it got to the point where I'd be making characters just to use a single item, and when I would meet the reqs of the item, I'd get bored. Kind of like in real life when you wait for a game to come out for years, it finally does, turns out to be not so great and you stop playing it after a couple of hours.. lets hope D3 doesn't turn out that way!
