The exe isn't encrypted of the preload data, rest of the files are, proxy or the non-encrypted and valid US NCF files will be required to bypass this.
(Or a disc image or other release to overwrite said encrypted files along with a Steam_appid.txt file to get by that check.)

Played the demo and I don't think I can say much after 100 turns but so far:
I didn't mind the removal of stacking units or the removal of religions and the... what's it called the thingie where you could chose your nations goverment system.
Actually I only remembed those weren't in anymore after finishing the demo

Something that happened to me in the demo:
I had 3 cities and Cesar thought it would be a brilliant idea to settle right in the center of my little triangle.
I was like fuck you Cesar and started hauling greek cavalry at his ass (btw. atatcking cities? Holy shit that's different from what I remember).
So I fuck his city up and all of a sudden he tries to negotiate a peace treaty.
The only reason I even started something was because I wanted this city gone (or under my control).
Anyways. What did he offer? A peace treaty. What did he want? A peace treaty (duh), gold and 2 of my resources.
My face: O.o
I just wiped the floor with his defenders. Germany and Egypt wouldn't harass me because they pretty much hated Cesar already so I had nothing to fear from them. And Cesar's got the balls to demand stuff from me? Again: O.o
Now comes the funny part.
I change the offer to: You give me that one city and I don't kill you.
What does Cesar do? Says something along the lines "Well, I have no other choice but to accept."
What the hell game? What's up with that AI?
@H4wkeye:
Sorry, can't help you there but maybe it comforts you that I've heard of people who bought the game and have the same issue? :/
edit:
Rock Paper Shotgun review:

I'm gonna start up the demo again and take another look at the graphics, because I like them. Then again, I also liked Elemental's gfx (if only the game would be sort of playable by now :/ )

Similair problem. Thanks to +2 days on European release and Demo they won't see a dime from me untill I try priated version. That game engine is really pathetic. Looks very average, number of units is decreased and it still runs like crap.

As I originally expected by 2k as it has become, streamline more, to appeal to a wider crowd, make it easier and ultimately dumb it down.

Yes it does make more sense that your human soldiers can just transform into boats at will, nevermind the fact that to build the boat they would need resources, and they can transform into boats at a desert hex...Transformers more than meets the eye!

Yes we'll play it anyway just because it's civilization, thinking for ourselves is hard nowadays so we just take what we're served and thank the guy serving it to us, even if it's not an improvement on what we already have.

Well, once cracked, they have to test it.

@Epsilon
So you're saying you're not playing it then?
Gotta agree on the transport boat thing.
And if they really lobotomized the AIs into becoming mindless random warmongers that's really a step into the wrong direction. More like a dive into the garbage dumpster.
But I have to agree with his last paragraph.
Civ 5 ain't gonna be memorable like Civ 1 or Civ 4 (which I loved to death)
Probably not gonna buy it right away but once it gets released on steam with all it's DLC at a reasonable discount, I'm gonna buy it.
But I'm still gonna play the heck out of it until then (once it gets a scene release that is :/ )

Hold your horses, pardners.
Civ4 1.00 had quite the bucketful of issues as well, both technical and AI related. And I don't recall Civ3 being absolutely perfect on release (but that was nearly 10 years ago so I can't vividly remember). I do remember having to wait for a good bunch of patches because, even on Chieftain, the combat RNG felt rather cheaty sometimes.
So yeah, Civ5 won't be a shining, cut diamond right away.
And Epsilon, cut 'em some slack with that. There's tons of small logistical details that have remained abstracted since Civ1 and/or Civ2, like diplomats and caravans, for instance. You don't see the merchant marine working either, nor most of your civilians travelling between your cities. Yes, streamlining can be a slipper slope, but I wouldn't overreact over the new sea transport mechanics.
Plus I get the idea someone will spot the aircraft carrier mechanics, put two and two together and bring standard transports back in a mod eventually.
PS: One of the 'complicated' things Civ5 actually gave back to the series in the Zones of Control (ZoC) concept, which had been taken out in Civ4, for no apparent reason. But nobody complained about that 'streamlining' back then.

@ShadowB
Since I got a foggy memory to every Civ before 4 care to explain the ZoC concept to me?
