True, some tilesets have limitations on how you can arrange the "blocks" mines with those track trails for example and certain caves, forts and ayleid/aeterna ruins do have a few more pieces but exteriors tend to feel rather similar.

Nice imagination though in some dungeons plus exploring tend to be rewarding though overall you get to the bottom and kill the boss and take the set or unique items found there or on said boss. Very Happy
(Bosses tend to be varied and diverse as well and matches the dungeon nicely, druids, undead, elves, mages, fighters, bandits, mercenaries, beasts, insects, demons and more.)

I'm level 17 now, 18 hours spent, it's still freakin brilliant. If only Oblivion had this gameworld and gave such an exploration urge, it could've been brilliant.

In Oblivion, exploring "yet another" dungeon was just a chore, but in this it's wonderful! Most of the areas are completely hand-made and the attention to detail is simply staggering. Of course not everything is 100% unique (I've come across a fair few areas that are copy/pasta from other areas, including from Oblivion itself) but it's such a small occurrence that I honestly don't mind.

@Tschoob

Absolutely bang on! Some developers really should be ashamed of themselves after seeing what this FAN MOD can do.

Exactly.. you'd go into a dungeon in Oblivion, kill some level scaled idiots, take their shit items, open a chest, find some bread, a lockpick or two, and some other useless items, and leave. Ok.. Why the fuck would I want to do that over and over again? At least in Nehrim there is a boss at the end of the level and there is a promise of at least half-way decent loot, depending on what area you are in.

Tried it for 5 hours, good game, hasn't completely drawn me in yet, maybe because I have too many things at my mind, but will keep on playing. Reminds me of Gothic.

I'm amazed how good it looks and runs on my old rig (c2d, 8800gt), with pretty much all eyecandys turned on. If you are struggling to get playable framerate try to disabling vsync as it did wonders in my case, but you must use the oblivion launcher options (vsync option not present in nehrim launcher, couldn't find it in settings ini either) after that nehrim settings (lancher and ingame) will change so change them back to your prefferences.
Aaaaaargh! Now I feel like a proper nub. Sad
Thanks for posting this.

I still have to turn of distant land, trees and buildings in order for the game to run at an acceptable (30+) framerate, but at least now I can max out all sliders instead of having them stuck at 66.

What system do you have tonzito? I'd advise sacrificing anything, shadows, water reflections, grass and whatnot, for distant buildings and such. It's just an opinion of course, but seeing a building in the distance and walking there is much more pleasant than having grass under your feet.

Walking around in a small box of visibility sucks.

Q8300@3.33GHz, HD4890, 4 GB DDR2, Win7 x64.

Without any kind of landscape options on the game runs 40+ fps except when in cities. For example, in Stonefield Castle my fps plummet down to 17. Sad
If I still had my XP partition working I'd install the game there and check out the performance there...
Had a problem where multiple instances of the AC3Filter would pop up in the system tray when I quit the game, but after uninstalling it the performance issues remain. Tried Catalyst 10.3, 10.8 and 10.9, fiddling around with Catalyst AI and such but no such luck.

I'm enjoying the game anyway, guess that's what really matters. Very Happy

I'm going to try the vsync thing but I think it's natural that with everything on highest settings, bloom, shadows, AA, it's getting pretty low FPS (outside) on a gtx 260.

Turning down the high shadow quality helps, and the shadows look weird on high anyway. Someone said it looks better without bloom? I'll have to see about that when I get home. Bloom can make things look off in some games, for sure.

They don't give strength actually, the description when you pick them is wrong. You get a +1 to your weight limit, which isn't that special.

HDR can't handle AA. Unless I'm missing something and somehow I can get both HDR and AA or whatnot, I'd rather have AA smoothing out edges and bloom than HDR.

ATI and NVIDIA both allow HDR and AA via using HDR and forcing AA via the GPU settings control panel (NVCP/ATICCC)

A lot of instant kill trigger type traps and the like are used such as going into certain fires or as you mentioned falling down a pit and so on.

better idea of it after 1 min in lol..

"This is a German Oblivion mod called "Nehrim" it's been out for a while and after hearing much talk I decided to give it a try, despite not being a great fan of Oblivion. But it's quite nicely done from what I've seen yet and makes Oblivion itself actually interesting again. One thing I noticed are those odd "death pits" where you die because of "death darkness" or just in midair as if your character suffered from a spontaneous heart attack. And of course I decided to show them off."

Once you get out of the beginning area it stops being so heavily scripted. There are no more pits, at all really, for a while that I've encountered. I think they just wanted to make sure you didn't jump into a pit and then quicksave over your last quicksave, etc.

The falling rocks one kinda got me too, except i didn't autodie and just sat there trapped at the edge by some rocks Surprised

But yeah after this it becomes more like normal oblivion dungeons without that huge sense of scale... which is actually too bad. But then I'm not really following the main quest much, mostly just hiking around trying to find all the thief gear.

Did any of you guys got to Ledur castle, near The death pass? I was wandering with my Lvl 7 Char (exploring in this game is soo great, gorgeous long distance views, the trees waving with the wind and...you actually find stuff!!! Unlike oblivion.) Anyway started climbing to said castle hoping it was stone keep or whatsthename, and started to be attacked by smugglers, good loot i say, got carried away and assaulted the main fortress gate, more smuglers...But then, appeared 2 Prince bodyguards, and inside sits a prince whatsname and his lady (that killed me with a mace blow to the head Laughing ).

The question is: This must be obviously a quest, must i leave the royal buggers live for now, cause killing them will break the quest latter ? Confused (The garrison is allready dead, only they live inside one of the towers Very Happy )

EDIT: Besides the said prince has a key to "THE VAULT" wich is in another tower of the fortress and a "NINA" key prolly quest related.

It's just the Boss of that place (It's kinda a dungeon though not really.), and leader of the Sildor (Or what they were called.) smugglers, they're referenced via certain texts and are active in several other locations as a form of above average bandits, you can get some nice gear though by exploring around. Smile
(Said vault being the small tower just outside with his wife in it or something - No wonder he keeps it securely locked and he's also always surrounded by men - , can get blood mage set item from the prince himself but you probably took that already or what it was again.)

No JB, i left the prince alive afraid it could bug any quest, had a save before entering the tower, (im only lvl 7 and have yet to go to the arcane sanctum..didnt i say the exploring was amazing? Laughing ) Havent got any texts about the sildor aswell Very Happy The girl was hostile though, for someone locked up. So no quest with them? So can i kill them? huumm....got to drop ths loot first. Very Happy
