Yep, I'm still here. But I can't be broken: it will come eventually. Twisted Evil

I like Firaxis. I would've bought the game if it weren't for Steam. So it's their loss.

Theres also the small matter of it lacking quite a few elements from earlier Civ games, most notably political system and religions.
I won't say it's been dumbed down, because the faithful of the church of Sid Meier will come raining down on me like hell fire Smile

Religion was little more than a gimmick, and the political system's present in the form of the more substantial social policies mechanics.

Hope i'm wrong...

Does this game use any other protection besides steam?

Possible. However, it's also possible that Steam have ninja-updated their protection systems in time for this game launch. Either way, it seems like it'll take a little while longer. I'd rather see a proper release done right than a rushed non-working release.

I have a feeling SKiDROW or another group is currently trying to find a decent workaround for the Steam Cloud and Steamworks functionality built into this title if Civ 5 saves a lot of data to the Steam Cloud and only some signature file locally. Anyone recall any recent Steam Cloud titles that were cracked fast?

I'll still hopeful that we'll see a release today.

Call of Pripyat wasn't released until the US version came out for some reason. Maybe there's something similar (but with the situation flip-flopped) with Civ 5

Given that this game needed to be decrypted via Steam at launch, the groups have only had a couple days to crack this. With Steamworks and the Steam Cloud integration, in addition to the customized way Firaxis made DLC and activation work (hardware based), I think it's just taking time to fully crack the game, do different campaign and multiplayer run-throughs to catch out any random game files that need to be cracked etc. I doubt it'll take much longer though. I predict that definitely in the next 48 hours, we'll have a release. Question is whether it will work without any problems or require repacks etc.

The official FAQ on 2K forums states that the final game size will be 4GB and 5GB with Deluxe content. At least it'll be a fairly quick download.

I think AI has always been a very difficult prospect for Firaxis and they can't seem to handle it, or choose not to devote enough talent/resources to it maybe. They seem to be relying on everyone playing Multiplayer or overlooking the AI issues, but that's just not the case for a game like this, especially with their strong marketing push for the quality of this title in the Civ series specifically. I wonder where everyone from Ensemble Studios went after it closed? They really should hire good AI developers specifically for the next Civ title. The gameplay is very good at this point and it would be a poor decision to make any major changes with every single sequel. Sadly, the graphics and AI were better in Anno 1404, a recent strategy title for which coding AI must've been a bitch. Civ has a very unique approach to strategy gameplay, but I think someone could easily compete with Firaxis if they don't get their act together. I mean, it's not like someone has to copy them, you only have to make a quality title based off the Settlers of Catan board game and you've got a worthy competitor right there with a name millions will recognize worldwide.

Regardless of the persistant derpiness of the Ai in the Civ series, I've loved them all.

okay one silly question.

I couldnt stand the wait anymore and decided to install the DEMO. Like everyone said .. shouldnt have done that because now i want the game even more.

Seeing that demo turn hack i thought i could at least finish the game. But now on the point of researching all research i cant continue because it keeps telling me to research even when nothing is left.

Jesus christ I haven't been hooked on a game in so long, I forgot what it felt like. Just played a 212 round game in Single Player on low difficulty, small map, couldn't stop until I conquered all. Very Happy

It's like 2:26AM here now, and I have work at like 7AM, goddamnit! Worth it though, awesome game. Smile

I can't figure out if having a DX11 card is an advantage or not in this game? It alows you to select a DX10 mode if you have a DX10 card, yes? What is the difference between DX10 mode and DX11 mode?

The game will default to DX10 (or 9, if you're stuck using that) if you don't have a DX11-compliant video card. There are advantages to having a DX11-compliant card, like hardware tessellation and some spiffy physics, lighting and particle effects, but I couldn't tell you for sure what exact features the game takes advantage of without actually playing it myself.

Gives me time to install W7 on this machine, my main gaming rig then, til a release comes out... I was waiting to do it, I'm bored, and yes it is time I suppose to dump my good ole XP X64.. Though it never crashes, and it's now running going on its 4th fucking year. A record for me and an OS... I'll be mighty impressed if W7 can match that/ Anyway, still hoping for a release tomorrow Laughing err today I suppose by the hour the clock tells me/

Bah... i'm tired of waiting and i'm not going to work today, i just bought it. It's Civ, so it's not badly spent money. I remember spending so many hours in front of Civ 1,2 and 4 that this sounds like a worthy investment Smile

"The Steamworks CEG [editor's note: Custom Executable Generation] system generates a custom binary for each customer. When you link your application with the Steamworks CEG, we provide you with several tools that you use to generate metadata about your executable file. This metadata is stored on the Steam 3 DRMS Server. When a user installs your game, the DRMS server collects information from the customer's computer that uniquely identifies it. The collected information is used in combination with the metadata regarding your executable file to generate a custom binary, that checks that it is running on the user's computer. If the user changes the configuration of their computer such that the CEG checks would fail to identify the computer, the CEG system will automatically generate a new executable file for the user, and update their game installation. These checks occur whenever your game is run, regardless of whether the computer is connected to the Internet or not. In addition to examining the user's computer, the CEG system will detect tampering with the executable file, and will conceal its workings from reverse engineering."

Sounds complicated and still no crack in sight, well, looks like i'll be buying this one sooner than later after all, oh well, like many said before me, this is one of those games I'm more than happy to spend my hard earned money on. Demo was fantastic and this game seems like the best time sink in the business.
