what was it a slim model or phat ?

It's a fat 40GB.

To answer the other questions, it's not full of dust. I can't switch it on at all so putting a disc in wouldn't work even if there wasn't a disc already stuck inside there Sad

Fuck it, I just ordered a new slim that I can't afford so hopefully it's jailbreakable.

i got one i'm about to attempt to repair that's doing the exact same thing. you turn it on and after a second or two the light goes yellow, there's some beeping and then the light turns red and blinks multiple times before shutting itself off.

i've read and was told it's hard drive related but i took the hard drive out of *my* ps3 that works and put it in this broken one and it does the same shit. when/if i get time today to read up on it some more if i find anything useful i'll let you know.

Hey that will be good maybe I could fix this here also but my trick works not always its just a pain in the ass trying for a gazillion times and it finally turns on. same shit everyday i got used to it but if you do find a solution will be good. Wink

Hmm got a little problem here..
Maybe someone can help me out.

So I got the minimus, which I read takes the teensy hex (using the original psgroove I think?).
Flashed the thing with the programmer and started the application, cold booted my ps3 and right after turning on I press the eject button (beeps a few times).
the screen stays black and my minimus lights up both the red and the green led, and as far as I know only the red one should light up, and then the green one, letting you know that it's finished.

Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong?

-edit-
hmmm ok I think I just found the answer.. it seems psgroove only runs on 3.41 and I'm still on 3.40... now where to get that 3.41 firmware.... hmhmhm

It should just have the green light on.

You're definately turning your PS3 off with the switch at the back, then on with the power button, then eject straight away? I always have a disc in the drive to eject as well, if that matters.

Otherwise you've probably not got the right hex I guess.

Sounds like the HEX to me, mate. I flashed mine with "Jay Modded teensy1.0.hex" (which is a modded Teensy 1.0 HEX that supports the new Backup Manager 2) and it couldn't have been simpler;

Connect to PS3, making sure no other USB devices are connected.
Press Power than immediately tap Eject.
Lights on the Minimus are red+green, then after a second or two, solid green.

I didn't really follow all this stuff too well as I wasn't originally planning on hacking my ps3.
Now I really wish I had because it would make it so much easier now Razz

I'm just really confused with the different stuff that you can use.

Like what's up with that backup manager 2 and that other open source backup manager?
Are they any better than the original backup manager? Or is the only reason to switch to a newer version so that you don't need a disc in the drive anymore?

I'll try to get the 3.41 update somewhere and try again. If it still doesn't work then I'll try that other hex you mentioned, sabin.

Looks like the site i bought my PS3Break from will take it back and replace it with a v1.1 which is fully upgradable.

Thank god i still have my Ipod touch Gen1 JB as backup in the meantime. It seems to be getting corrupt every now and again though, it recovers but it takes forever. Anyone else ever have shutdown/coruption issues with there ipod Gen1 JB?

did you try to force eject the disc (does the ps3 turn on at all?)

if its not completely dead try this:

Quote:
Turn the ps3 off at the back, then hold your finger on the eject button while turning the ps3 on at the back.

It should make a fan noise and spit the disc out.

I have some questions about the Hermes payload and the Open Manager. On PS3-Hacks it says this:

Quote:
Open Manager works with Hermes payload update. So,if you return from game list, apps_home can launch gamaes without one disc (some games don’t work without any disc), but if you return from Homebrew, apps_home works from usb000.

What does that mean? How do you start your games with Hermes and the Open Manager? What the hell is apps_home? And do games that require a disc in the drive work with the Hermes payload and the Open Manager once you put a disc in the drive?

It also says this about the Hermes payload:
Quote:
This payload also supports loading unencrypted EBOOT.BIN files directly from PS3_GAME.

What is PS3_GAME?

it's a menu option in the game menu on a jailbroken ps3
"/app_home/PS3_Game/"

I don't actually know but I assume it's used to launch certain stuff from the XMB instead of a backup manager. No idea what it is that you can launch and where you have to put it exactly, but that would make the most sense to me.

Yeah thanks for the tip anyway though. I've gone through all of the tips but it just won't stay on long enough to eject the disc. I'll open it up later. I've been in the bluray drive a couple of times before so it's really no problem. Just an inconvenience.

Are you sure it transferred correctly? I tried on external before there was a compatibility list but the psarc files are over 4GB so I put it on internal instead. On external it would load up but only to the menu. On internal everything works perfectly.

Xeauron believes so, yeah. The additional terminal connections at the edges of the Minimus should be enough to wire up extra storage capacity.

Are you sure your folder structure is correct? You cannot have your files 2 levels deep.

Needs to be GAME_NAME/PS3_FILES

I accidentally had 2 folders deep on some of mine and get the eboot message.
