I believe the drives are encrypted for the console.

SO if you wipe it in the slim (or PC) or another FAT, and put it into another machine it will force you to format it again etc...

Ahh that sucks. I've been playing Uncharted 2 on crushing and I am right at the end of the frikkin game. It would have been handy if I could have recovered my save file somehow.

Shit, sorry mate. I've been looking for you and the 99% majority consensus is; if you haven't used the "backup" utility, the drive simply won't function in the new machine. None of your files will work, including saves, and you'll have to just format it.

oh well, I guess I'm aswell to just format it on the PC instead of fannying around switching drives in ps3's to do it.

I guess that's one thing MS and Sony do have in common; they fuck you with the HDD and data contained therein.

Well atleast with MS you can just connect your old HDD to new console and you're good to go with save files intact. That's something at least.

sorry to barge in but while were on the subject i to have a HDD question.

i have my 650gb HDD in my ps3 right now and i put my old 80gb into an external caddy, i used it to update my banned 360 to that new beta dashboard and ever since then the hdd hasnt worked in the external.

i think it needs formatting again as i heard it was a old 360 dash problem with external usb drives, but the only way i can format this thing would be to put it back into my ps3, format it, then take it back out again.

would this effect anything on my 650gb drive? as i REALLY dont want to lose everything on there >.>

Ok this is to confirming what RMFX said some few pages back about PS Jailbreak releasing a support for the 3.42 and 3.50 FW. They sent me a PDF file with new price listings of wholesale and said within a week they will release the new hack and all their previous dongles are upgradable to support the 3.42 and 3.50 FW. The pdf is dated for October 15th 2010 so new dongles from PS Jailbreaks will resurface then.

You can choose not to believe me also so just treat this a "RUMOR". Ya digg

EDIT: I just put this out so none runs to buy any more clones (in case it doesn't work with new hack) and gives them benefit of the doubt for the said 1week. It's a win win game if it's a lie you still don't lose nothing.

I guess you didn't play Red Faction 2? That game was fucked up! The worst fps I've ever played.

I received my Minimus today! I odered it on Saturday, they shipped it on Monday and I got it today (Friday). Not bad. Smile
Now I'm asking myself which hex I should flash? It needs a Teensy 1.0 hex, right?
So Hermes 2.0 doesn't work properly or what's the deal?

I just noticed there's a hex psgroove_teensy_at90usb162_16Mhz.hex and another one psgroove_teensy++1.0_at90usb646_16Mhz.hex. I think Minimus needs the first one (at90usb162), not the Teensy 1.0 one. Is that right?

This is off topic but I'll post it here anyway since we're now talking about replacing drives. I've got a new PS3 slim coming today to replace my broken fat 40GB. I wanted to put my old 40GB drive into the slim so that I can wipe it before I sell the broken console on. Is that possible?

Or even better, can it be backed up in some way to transfer my shit over to the new drive and PS3?

This should work. I allready backupped my data from previous HDD before. The only problem is that your old console doesnt work Sad.

I dont know if its possible to put your old hdd in the new ps3 but i think it should be no problem. It anyway wouldnt hurt to try.

I found a nice documentation about what you need to do. Its IN DUTCH on usenet:
http://www.nzbindex.nl/?go=search&searchitem=PS3HDDINTERNBYMSVP&age=&results=25&group=&sort=age_desc&min_size=&max_size=&poster=&new=1&showmoreinfo=&x=19&y=13

For english :

Btw... its also possible to download savegames Smile

Empty again Sad

hehe look at the free space when you get your 320 gb console
here it says 259/298 free GB
why the hell is Sony stealing all that space from my 320 gb console...

Because for whatever gay reason Sony decided the PS3 needs to eat up 12% of any HDD you have installed.

I have a 500 GIG in my PS3, it shows 412gigs out of 465gigs being used, and thats after a fresh format with nothing installed in the system. Utter bullshit.

So you're using your old 80GB, in a caddy, as an external right? Then all you need to do is connect it to your PC via the caddy and format it to FAT32, so the PS3 can see it. You don't have to touch your current 650GB inside the PS3.

well i had originally done that, but after using the hdd just once in the external caddy to upgrade my xbox 360 firmware, it seems to have died on me.

the caddys blue LED is really dim when connected with the hdd in and its bright when i unplug it, so i wanted to first check whether or not the hdd has infact died, or if the caddy just isnt getting enough power.

the usb lead for the caddy is like some freakshow usb, it has the small usb on one end which goes into the caddy and 2 regular usb 2.0 on the other end (i tried plugging both in for more power but its a no-go)

and as for trying to use it in my ps3 to format it, it just says that the wrong hard disk has been inserted....so im starting to think my hdd just died or is just being iffy.

Hook it to your PC and run a few checks on it, it definitely sounds like it's struggling. That or the caddie could be screwy?

In other news;

http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67468

PSFreedom now works on 3.01 firmware, with 3.10 and 3.15 coming soon.
