Does the crack work with v1.1?
Also, how the hell do you give promotions to your dudes. I goto the awards thing in the barracks, (mind you ive completed around 22 missions now, and almost every mission said I gained awards) but there are no awards or promotions there, and when I click to try to give my crew one anyways, it just says to do a mission!

in your crew window in the base, there is a button on top of the "sailors, pettyofficers, officers" stack, which says like Promotions or something, which opens up 3 new buttons where all of em are =)

Ran into a A1 bomber pilot last night on my first patrol off the coast of Briton, should have gotten a picture of it. Skimming along the surface at around 20:50 and I get an alert from my watch officer planes spotted, get a man to my flak gun, gets the first two planes shot down and I'm thinkin' man this guy's gonna get a medal for this.
Third plane comes buzzing in and drops a bomb right on him. Hull goes from 90% to 60% the sub starts taking on water, listing to the port side, one diesel engine knocked out, batteries damaged. Managed to save the boat and still make it back to port, two crewman dead in total one petty-officer.
Great game.

No fucking shit. And then you drag the badges or the promotion badge to the selected crew member. To bad NO badges of ANY kind are in this window for me. Even though I obviously should have some.

It's perhaps a bug. There are two bugs in fact here - one is that the selection area for one of the medals is very small that you can actually miss it and be fustrated thinking it's not working. Second is that if you get this unable to assign it to your crew members thing - well I fixed that personally by assigning what I could in order top to bottom and then quitting, and loading it again - then it clicking the medal, the player I wanted to assign to (highlighted blue targets only) and drag and drop. It works for me this way. I've not encountered the bug more than once though.
I NEED SOME HELP though 
I made a mistake in deciding to see whether I could track a long distance task force on my way back from patrol. I'd already sunken four merchants but I had enough torps left for some fun and I hadn't run into a task force yet so I thought what the hell?
So I do all the calculations to determine where it's going to be in so many hours and off I go.
I get to the destination, wait a bit, contacts arriving, periscope depth and begin approach. I manage to set up for one tanker, fire and then suddenly I hear the message 'we've been detected sir...' - okay no problem, fire off another salvo of two (last torps) at another tanker. Crash dive, further, turn away and speed off... right? err... wrong 
I now have this task forces' escorts hounding me and I can't get away! Especially fustrating as I sunk those two tankers.
I'm counting around 4 destroyers on my position. What's the best method does anyone know? I can get around 1 minute of stealth before they start pinging me and I'm back to square one.

...I uninstalled, re-installed, ran the patch and then placed the crack in its place...only to have the bloody game start asking me for a CD Key (from disc 3 yet!?) now!
Fu&k.
Anybody got any ideas *before* I uninstall/reinstall again?
(FYI: unless I got a different NFO than everyone else, mine says NOTHING about any bloody keys.)

well either it's your lucky day or not, i had this prob with an old GTR clonecd version, where even tough i had the real key put in after i reinstalled it wouldnt accept it. perhaps this applies here too.
Do this, uninstall the game, remove any reg entries u can find, run starforce clean, remove any starforce reg entries u find..
Reboot, reinstall.
Should work.

1.) Make sure you install the correct patch, there are 4 versions.
2.) There is no key for this game.
