for those who don't have a ps3, or if you want to see the (excellent) story again - sega has done an anime adaption, first 3 eps are out. especially for a game-to-anime conversion, i have to say it's quite good, anidb ratings are also high (8/10, which is quite a lot over there)

I found this interesting;
Quote: | A few weeks back an acquaintance of mine who used to work for Edge dropped out of games journalism. You can read his exit letter here, where he expresses his frustration that what he calls the most interesting game of last year, Valkyria Chronicles, got scant coverage. I've got a load of problems with Valkyria Chronicles, but I can put them to one side. This one's for you, dude! |
Can read the whole article here; GameSetWatch
Snippet from the letter;
Quote: | I’ll keep my closing comments to these: I think it says a lot about the state of the games media that the best/most interesting game of last year, Valkyria Chronicles, received very little coverage in any of the major magazines or websites; and I emailed several websites and magazines to ask if they’d like an import review of the best/most interesting game this year (Demon’s Souls) and nobody was interested until someone else reviewed it and got a load of hits. |

The Challenges of the Edy Detachment
Quote: | Master six different classes in six new missions with The Challenges of the Edy Detachment, the fourth batch of downloadable content for Sega's Valkyria Chronicles, coming to the PlayStation Network next week.
When The Challenges of the Edy Detachment was announced back in September of last year, there was a little confusion over the release date. Sega first announced winter 2010 for the release, before correcting that to winter 2009. Either one works, really, as we're in winter, which technically started in 2009, but it's now 2010. They knew what they were talking about. That's what is important.
The new DLC features six missions, each focusing on the skills of one particular class - scout, shocktrooper, lancer, engineer, sniper, and tank - issued by the members of Edy's Detachment, hence the name.
Looks like it's time to dust off those copies of Valkyria Chronicles, or in my case, run to the store and rebuy it. Yes, I am an idiot sometimes.
Squad 7, move out! Valkyria Chronicles DLC #4 is releasing next week! - [Sega Blog] |
http://kotaku.com/5475779/edys-detachment-challenges-valkyria-chronicles-next-week
Quote: | The DLC features six different missions, all involving a challenge issued from the members of Edy’s Detachment. Jann will smother you with details on how to take on a slew of tanks at once in the Lancer mission, Marina will coldly cue you for a stealthy sniper shootout – until she sees a remarkably cute fox, at least – and Edy herself will brief you on an epic shocktrooper fight of massive proportions.
All in all, the six missions include challenging goals based on mastering the following classes: - Scout
- Shocktrooper
- Lancer
[* Engineer
- Sniper
- Tank
In addition, you aren’t limited to only using members of Edy’s Detachment! You can field any of your personal favorites from Squad 7 that you’d like to use.
The DLC will go live next Thursday, February 25th! Before then, just as with the first three batches of DLC, expect a special blog spotlight or two that will go into even more detail about what the upcoming DLC is all about! |

I've not got around to the DLC, is this the same Edy stuff that's already up on the European/Japanese stores? I don't think it is but it would be weird for there to be another Edy DLC pack surely?

hmm this seems to be another one, yes.
the original one was based on edy's troop and had some story missions to follow, while this seems to be more about those challenge missions.

Yea it's a very sweet game with a good tactical aspect and also a lovely story.
Still need to play the second part on the PSP.
edit: Isn't it possible to play PSP games on PS3 with the jailbreak?

Which chapter is that?
Also, Scouts get raped by shocktroopers. Hell, I think shocktroopers are designed to rape scouts. Use your shocktroopers to fight them. Also, headshots don't count against crouched units. So if the enemy is crouched near a sandbag, you can't headshot. It's retarded, especially when the damn AI is IN FRONT of the sandbag.
Scouts are purely recon. Also, fairly good sniper killers if you manage their AP properly. My team usually consistes of no more than 2 scouts, and I usually only have Alicia. Rest is troopers, lancers, an engineer and a sniper or two.
How is your Alicia not outrunning the shocktrooper? She has like double the AP a trooper has...
i can has computar?!

Chapter TWO. Seriously, I'm less than two hours into the game (just got the tank, which arrives in Turn 3) and that one Shocktrooper DECIMATES Alicia and her two "no name" scout soldiers. I finally did it by simply moving my scouts out the way, behind a building, turn skipping until Welkin turns up in his tank, and then ROFLstomping everyone with the tank.
Still very lame though. I shudder to think how I'm going to get raped later in the game if a Chapter TWO mission kicked my ass >_<

use the grenades if they are crouched or behind sandbag cover. It will knock them out of their position and force them to stand up so you can 2-5 hit headshot them instead. Or, yeah use the tank and run them over first.

Everybody struggles at that bit. It's all about learning the quirks of the game, it's part strategy, part tactics, part puzzle game, and it's all kinds of awesome. I love it.
Valkryia Chronicles == Happy thoughts.
Quote: | Woooo!! I got my OWN Shocktroopers now, they really are seriously OP |
Enjoy it... I found them more difficult to use as the game progressed because you have more ground to cover - and they don't have much range at all, even if you use them more than once. They are great for ambushes though, you can decimate advancing troops if you position them properly.

I'm loving it so far, I really am. I doubt I'll be getting many A or S ranks, nor Ace kills either, since ranking requires rushing to the objective rather than killing - and I don't have the patience for the save/reload nonsense of dealing with the enemy Ace's evasion. I'll just keep playing as I'm playing =)

yeah the game can be really tough sometimes.
Unfortunately I don't remember many details of that battle as it's been a while, but make sure you get like 3 or 4 of those rocket launcher guys as they do quite a lot of damage. if I recall correctly you can also make some of your troops despawn at a command post thingy and instead grab other troops as you need them, or re-spawn them further down the road.
In the end there's just little room for error in that mission so you gotta make sure you make every move count. that includes possibly using 1 rocket launcher guy 2 or 3 times in a row if necessary.

On a random note, VC3 (PSP, playable in EMU afaik) is very close to being translated and should be out within the week.
